Online poker tournaments saw a nice 2012 boost last weekend, as each major event flew past their respective guarantees. Unfortunately, it appears the new year excitement may have been short-lived as most events came back down to earth this past weekend. While PokerStars sustained their large attendance numbers, tournaments on iPoker and BWin both saw a big drop-off in entry numbers. It can always be difficult to pinpoint why attendance drops, so like most things in poker, we’ll just chalk it up to variance.
There were still some big prize pools and first place prizes to fight over this past Sunday as the Party Poker $200k surpassed the $300,000 prize pool mark. Not to be outdone, the Sunday Million nearly reached the $1.5M mark. Overall, there was more than $3,000,000 in prizes between just the six majors below. While a few events fell subject to the chip-chop bug, the Sunday Million paid more than $213,000 to its solo winner “Asprin1”. While that was a massive win it could not compete with the prizes at the 2012 Aussie Millions taking place this month.
