The WCOOP came to an end late Monday night (or earlier this morning for some) and the Main Event did not disappoint.  The $5,2000 buy-in tournament amassed a huge $10,720,000 prize pool.  Other events finishing up Sunday and Monday were the $10,000 HORSE, the $1,000 2nd Chance (two-day event), and the $215 NL which took the place of the Sunday Warm-Up.

Event #43, a $200+$15 tournament, saw 9,220 players creating a $1,844,000 prize pool. This was quite a big turnout for a tournament starting at 1:00 PM EST. There were plenty of big names making deep runs but the biggest had to be Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier, a PokerStars sponsored professional and winner of Event #38 (the $500-$500-$500) for over $232,000. Elky is one of the sickest tournament players on the planet, having won numerous live majors including the 2008 PCA for $2,000,000. What’s even crazier is he nearly shipped the WCOOP $1,000 Second Chance event which finished up late Monday. “Unfortunately” for Elky he only managed an 8th place finish, taking home a measly $16,685.

While Elky could not manage a victory in the $1,050 2nd Chance, there were still other world class players on hand look at a huge $136,000 pay day. Heads-up play came down to “Traumatize” and “Soterdelf” with the more experienced Traumatize coming out on top. While Traumatize might be higher-ranked, Soterdelf had already won a WCOOP bracelet this year, shipping Event #21, the $215r for nearly $220,000. This was Traumatize’s first $100k+ score, however, it was his 10th $20k+ score of his career. A tough final hand led to the end of the tournament, as Aces up managed to hold versus a straight and flush draw:

One of the smallest events of the WCOOP was perhaps the most entertaining. The $10,000 + $300 HORSE Championship saw many of the world’s best poker players enter. Players such as Tom “Hold_emNL” Dwan, Barry “barryg1” Greenstein, Chad “ChadBrownPRO” Brown, and Justin “BoostedJ” Smith were all on hand vying for the $252,350 first place prize. Making the final table were tournament pros “djk123” who was making a deep run in the Main Event, Ozenc Demir, Matt “Hoss_TBF” Hawrilenko, and PokerStars Pro Noah “Exclusive” Boeken. Heads-up play came down to the top-5 ranked djk123 and Demir, both of whom were guaranteed to eclipse their career best scores. In the end, djk123 was able to outlast Demir, taking home the title, bracelet, and $252,350.

Some sick things were happening in the $5,200 WCOOP Main Event. First of all, djk123, winner of the $10k HORSE and arguably one of the best online tournament players in the world, took control of the tournament with about 25 players left. Djk123 wasn’t alone at the top of the board. He was joined by some of the world’s best tournament professionals “Jovial Gent”, “PeachyMer”, “Supa4real” and cash game pro “Xaston”. Four-handed, and still with the chiplead, djk123 fell on some awful luck, losing three hands to bad beats in a matter of minutes, eventually busting in 4th place for $643,200. FullTilt looked to cash in on the WCOOPs popularity, and did so by running their three majors along with a miniFTOPS series which was full of smaller buy-in events. The Sunday Brawl, a $240 KO Event, was first on the docket Sunday morning. 26 FullTilt sponsored professionals were joined by more than 2,200 other players to create a rather large $447,200 prize pool. Some of the more notable pros playing were Erica Schoenberg, Issac “Menlo” Baron, and Lee Watkinson. Bruno Stefanelli was the only professional to make the top-100, finishing in 97th place. The biggest name at the final table was former FTOPS winner Jeff “GrampaJeff” Gray. He is no stranger to success in the Brawl, having won the event last December for $79,000. Gray was unable to recreate his past magic, as he took 5th place for just over $23,000. In the end “Olkku”, outlasting “iDrinkBeer2”, decided upon a chop earning each roughly $75,000.

FullTilt upped the ante on the $750k this weekend, turning the $216 buy-in event into a $535 buy-in, $1,000,000 guarantee tournament. While the number of entries dropped slightly, the prize pool swelled to nearly $1,250,000. The larger buy-in attracted more of FullTilt’s own pros, as 44 showed up to compete with other great tournament players. Players like Eli Elezra, Cyndy Violette, and Erick Lindgren were on hand, as well as Eric Liu and Huck Seed. Two professionals managed to make the top-100 including Nordberg and S Gromenkova.
