GUKPTGoliathTowers over Coventry

Coventry is the place to be this weekend, that is if you want to try and climb over 1999 other players to raise a GUKPT trophy. The expected first prize of more than £35,000 may also be a motivator to those of you who are more results orientated. The place to be is the G Casino, just next to the football ground, not too far from the centre of town.

The main event is starting on Tuesday, and there are a plethora of activities to entertain you if the poker goes badly. Not that you don’t have a multitude of options to re-enter during the week, and each re-entry is only £100 + £20. My favourite “flavour” activity is going to be the “Beat the Beast” competition on Bank Holiday Monday, where TV quiz star Mark “The Beast” Labbett is going to take on teams of all comers in a battle of knowledge and wits, where the winning team takes away £200.

I’m also working at the event this week, so if you want to come and say hello, please feel free.

UKCOAP Festival

If you fancy a smaller festival than the aptly named Goliath, the Amateur Poker Association & Tour (APAT) is hosting it’s UK Championship of Amateur Poker (UKCOAP) at the amazing DuskTillDawnCasino in Nottingham. Apart from being very enamoured with acronyms, the APAT are putting on what looks like being a great seven event festival over the Bank Holiday Weekend, all aimed at the casual player.

This schedule also includes the £100 + £10 UK Amateur Poker Championship over Sunday and Monday, and loads of satellites to all the events will be available in the casino throughout the weekend.

The Vic Monthly Special

The VicCasino is still thought of as the beating heart of the London poker scene, and this week sees their £15,000 guaranteed monthly special. the £300 + £30 buy in may be a little steep for a lot of us, but Wednesday offers you a chance to satellite in for £50 + £5 before the main event kicks off the following day. For those of you stuck in London this week, this offers a chance to make up for losing value by not being able to travel, and with most of the pros out and about on the tour (WPT Cyprus, GUKPT Goliath etc.) it makes it even more attractive.
