Along with a general recent surge in poker popularity, the amount of women playing the game professionally has skyrocketed. According to Fox News, in response to this rise in participants, The World Poker (WPT) has just launched an official WPT ladies tour and No Limit Texas Hold’Em tournament circuit; WPT Ladies (WPTL). The buy-ins range from $300-$1500 dollars and will give women professionals and amateurs the opportunity test their skills at prestigious destinations around the globe and vie for a WPT title.
Robyn Moder, the executive vice president of WPT Studios explained, “Women are a rising force in poker. By bringing a WPT ladies league and tour stops to top gaming destinations across the US, we hope to support and perpetuate the evolution of the sport and recognition of the women who play.”
The first season of the WPTL begins January 20th at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey with a $300 buy-in event and will continue on to Commerce Casino in the Los Angeles area, Bay 101 in San Jose, and Foxwoods in Connecticut. The season will be capped with the WPT Ladies Championship, a $1500 buy-in event, held at the Bellagio. Also, in partnering with the Susan G. Korman for the Cure, 15 percent of each of the $1500 buy-ins will be donated to benefit the breast cancer foundation. Furthermore, the final table for the WPTL Championship will be televised on GSN, the new home for the WPT on TV. So, with the forming of this women’s tour, we will hopefully see continuing interest in poker among women around the world, and not to mention we get to see more of Clonie
