There has been a lot of talk recently about this years World Series of Poker with it being only 2.5 months away. Judging by last year, 10 weeks will seem like no time at all, especially with all the poker to be played in between. All of the big name rooms have started up their satellites, and many people have already qualified. Have you?

Looking over at the largest online poker room for satellites, PokerStars, there has already been 225 seats awarded. 192 of these by cash satellites, 6 by FPP satellites, and 27 by VIP satellites. This number is much higher when compared to last year. In 2007, the total number of PokerStars qualifiers was 616 (much lower than 2006 where it was 1,600+). I bet we see an increase in the number of participants this year because things are started to get more back to normal with the UIGEA and such. Actually, at the current rate we should see over double the qualifiers from last year!

Also, judging by past the WSOP events, most qualifiers come in near the end. This is for many reasons, somewhat because of the hype but also because of some of the great tournaments PokerStars has to offer. Don’t forget that they have brought back the STEP tournaments this year and also their popular guarantees. They also always run a few 150 seat guaranteed tournaments during the satellite period was well, so that will definitely up the qualifiers.

Other big rooms have started their qualifiers as well. Full Tilt Poker has had 62 players qualify and like every year they have many other promotions to go along with winning your seat. They are also giving away 50 seats this year which you can win for absolute nothing. All you have to do is earn 3000 Full Tilt Points in the qualifying week to play in the special Main Event Race Freerolls. And as always, if you win your seat at Full Tilt and win the main event, they will reward you with $10,000,000 more! (Allen Cunningham was the closest person to do this, finishing 3rd in 2006).

Each room definitely has its own perks so you can pick and choose where you can try to qualify. Regardless of where you chose, the most important part is that you win your seat! Satellites are running at nearly all online poker rooms now, so try and win your seat for as little as $2 cash, or maybe even for free!
