The 25th of June saw the culmination of two WSOP Events, so we have two new bracelet holders out there. We also saw the start of two new events, as well as the continuation of Event #44. In all, it was a busy day, and yesterday also saw us post an interview of Max Steinberg talking to FTR’s own Rob King about his recent WSOP final tables.
Event #42
The final table of the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em Event #42 saw Norbert Szecsi come through to win in one of the shortest Final tables of the summer so far. Norbert picked up his biggest cash ever with the $345,037 first prize that went with his new title and a gold bracelet. The final table of 7 for the $10,000 No Limit 2-7 Single Draw Event #43 on Day 3 of the event had no less than 15 WSOP bracelets in the possession of the players. Day 1 of the the $3,000 No Limit Hold’em Event #44 had seen 1,072 players whittled down to just 229. Day 2 saw that cut to just 22 players, all of whom are heading into Day 3 with dreams of picking up a piece of golden jewellery. Jason Mercier is still in touch sitting in 8th in chips, and he is guaranteed to match his best result of the summer so far in this event. Some of the players who managed to make the money, but won’t be coming back to go for the big bucks include Steve Bartlett (114th for $5,560), Randy “Nanonoko” Lew (113th for $5,560), Sorel Mizzi (90th for $6,555) and Gaelle Baumann (76th for $7,287). The first day of the $1,500 Ante Only No Limit Hold’em Event #45 saw 678 players cut down to just 71, and the bubble burst with Robert Tepper being the only player to pick up his min cash for $2,581. Players looking to improve on their min cash include Shane Schleger (4,500), Mike Watson (5,000), Jon Aguiar (46,900) and David Vamplew (78,000).

The opening day of the $3,000 Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo Split 8 or better Event #46 saw 435 players enter the melee, but only 144 make it through the first day of carnage. Victims of this massacre of buy ins included Phil Hellmuth, Barry Green Stein, Eli Elezra, Layne Flack, Greg Raymer, Kevin MacPhee and Marcel Luske. some of the players who still have a chance to take down the $279,094 first prize are David Sklansky (7,950), Huck Seed (9,100), Mike Matusow (22,000) and Joe Hachem (25,600). Wednesday sees the return of Daniel Negreanu to the Rio as the $111,111 buy in One Drop High Roller’s Event kicks off. in Negreanu’s absence, another player has broken the 400 point line in the form of David “Bakes” Baker and his second place in Event #43. The winner of Event #43, Jesse Martin, also broke into the top 10.
