Tuesday was a day that brought us bonus final table action when the final table of Event #53 ran over, and went into a fourth day of action. We also saw the aside action in the Players Championship start to have an effect, and all around the Rio, players busted out of every event possible.

Event #55

We have a final table of eight for the $50,000 Players Championship Event #55 as the field narrowed on Wednesday from 26. In a field this bunged with well known poker names, you’d expect to see one or two of them make the final table, and we were not disappointed. We have 2010 WSOP Main Event Champion Jonathan Duhamel, David Benyamine, George Danzer, and others coming back to play for the $1,774,089 first place.

Earlier in the day, we had a slightly strange bubble, as two players busted at once, to split the prize money for 16th place. Joe Cassidy and Gary Benson both burst the bubble, and take home $55,947 for their efforts.

The stacks for the final table are going to look like this:

  1. Don Nguyen – 5,068,000
  2. Matthew Ashton – 2,996,000
  3. George Danzer – 2,868,000
  4. David Benyamine – 2,709,000
  5. Minh Ly – 2,307,000
  6. Jonathan Duhamel – 1,627,000
  7. John Hennigan – 1,412,000
  8. Mike Wattel – 810,000

The players will be back to play to a winner at 14:00pst

Event #56

Event #56 is the latest in a long line of 2013 WSOP Events that have run over their scheduled time, and into an extra day. This $2,500 No Limit Hold’em event is down to just 2 players left in, and Nikolaus Teichert and Vincent Maglio will play down to a finish tomorrow. We’ll have a full final table update after the action.

The final table pouts so far are:

  1. TBD
  2. TBD
  3. Dan Owen – $312,516
  4. Sergey Lebedev – $225,392
  5. Josh Arieh – $164,768
  6. Kirill Rabtsov – $122,036
  7. Nicolas Faure – $91,586
  8. Sebastien Comel – $69,627
  9. Nicolas Levi – $53,593

The last action in the heads up match with start at 1pm and will be live streamed on WSOP.com

Event #57

The second day of the $5,000 No Limit Hold’em Event #57 continued in the same vein as Day 1, with 252 players starting the day, but only 31 making it to the final day. We lost Maria Ho, Calvin Anderson, Eugene Katchalov and Allen Cunningham all before the bubble burst. Those who lessened the sting of exiting by picking up some cash included Tobias Reinkemeier (77th for $9,175), Davidi Kitai (66th for $10,354), Kevin MacPhee (62nd for $12,122) and Phil Laak (41st for $17,097).

The final day looks to be full of action, with these guys leading the race for the title.

  1. Seth Berger – 986,000
  2. Philipp Gruissem – 743,000
  3. Antonio Buonanno – 732,000
  4. Christian Rudolph – 668,000
  5. Arthur Pro – 656,000

The players will be continuing the action at 13:00 in the Amazon room.

Event 58A

The Little One for one Drop $1,111 Event 58 had it’s Day 1A start off with a bang, attracting more than 2,000 runners to the first flight. 425 of them will return for Day 2 on Friday, with some rather interesting names up top. Liv Boeree is sitting towards the top of the table with 67,675 in chips. Liv hasn’t won anything major live since her EPT San Remo win back in 2010, but it would be nice to see her go really deep in this event.

Other notables in the hunt for this title include Roberto Romanello (20,625), Erick Seidel (23,575) and Paul Volpe (32,225).

The big stacks in the room so far are:

  1. Miklaj Zawadzki – 85,225
  2. Paul Spitzberg – 74,525
  3. Liv Boeree – 67,675
  4. Benjamin Taylor – 64,300
  5. Kfir Nahum – 63,425
  6. Amir Saul – 61,150
  7. Kevin Saul – 61,150
  8. DID NOT REPORT – 57,775
  9. Akash Malik – 57,400
  10. Thomas Lutz – 56,750

Day 1B will kick off on Thursday at 12:00 noon, and both flights will combine on Friday.

Event #59

The $2,500 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball (Limit) Event #59 only attracted 282 entries, a surprisingly low number given the traction the game has got recently in the high stakes cash world. It was however an improvement over the 228 from last year. The field has been cut by nearly 70%, as only 88 players made it through the day. Players who didn’t make the cut include Phil Ivey, Greg Raymer, Barry Greenstein, Phil Hellmuth and John Juanda.

Among the players still involved are Jason Mercier (5,900), Scott Seiver (18,900) and Gavin Smith (36,900).

The big stacks for Day 2 are:

  1. Juijen Chang – 66,000
  2. Michael Mizrachi – 58,300
  3. David “ODB” Baker – 46,900
  4. Ryan Tepen – 43,900
  5. Justin Bonomo – 42,600
  6. Dale Townsend – 41,100
  7. Marco Johnson – 40,000
  8. Fazad Bonyadi – 40,000
  9. Leonard Martin – 39,500
  10. Jon Turner – 37,700

Players will be back to play through the bubble, and hopefully to a final table at 2pm Vegas time.

Player of the Year

Only one change today, as Jared Hamby has popped up to 6th on the leader board. Amazingly, this far into the WSOP, Daniel Negreanu is still on top of the leader board, but he is really going to need to get some points soon to keep that spot.

  1. Daniel Negreanu – 475.84
  2. David “Bakes” Baker – 475.35
  3. Tom Schneider – 438.51
  4. Marco Johnson – 430.63
  5. Chris Klodnicki – 400.80
  6. Jared Hamby – 395.73
  7. Anthony Gregg – 390.00
  8. Steve Sung – 369.50
  9. David Vamplew – 360.00
  10. Daniel Kelly – 344.70

Thursday is going to see the second flight for the Little One for One Drop, and the final table of the Player Championship as well as action in two other events. It’s also a holiday in the USA (something about a messy breakup) so expect to see lots of “fun” tweets and FB updates from your favourite players.
