As I sit here catching up on the action from the Amazon Room in the Rio Casino, I am eternally grateful that I get to do this for a job. There is nothing to equal turning on your computer and wanting to work, and speaking of which, it’s my job to bring you all the WSOP action from the 9th of June.

Event #15

The WSOP Event #15 $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. tournament has come to a close with Tom Schneider taking home the bracelet and $258,960 for his troubles. WSOP victory isn’t anything new for Schneider, as he won the Player of the Year back in 2007, and this is his fourth bracelet overall.

The final table of eight ended up like this:

  1. Tom Schneider – $258,960
  2. Owais Ahmed – $159,950
  3. Viatcheslav Ortynskiy – $108,701
  4. Rep porter – $75,652
  5. Frankie O’Dell – $53,739
  6. Scott Bohlman – $38,949
  7. Eddie Blumenthal – $28,778
  8. Mark Klecan – $21,679

We have a full report from the final table coming soon.

Event #16

Heads up poker is one of my favourite variations, and the $10,000 NLHE heads up Event #16 played down to a winner. The last man standing was Mark Radoja who beat Don Nguyen in the last match for $336,190.

Big names who also cashed include Phil Galfond (9th for $26,237), Randy “Nanonoko” Lew (6th for $54,024) and Phil Hellmuth (5th for $54,024).

A full report is on it’s way soon.

Event #17

Event #17 is one of the many $1,500 NLHE bracelet events, and is heading into it’s last day with 15 players remaining. Notable players who won’t be returning include James Dempsey (150th for $3,182), Jake Cody 9126th for $3,537), Vanessa Selbst (60th for $7,218) and Matt Jarvis (37th for $10,343). David “Bakes” Baker is leading the race towards the bracelet, and he is one of only three players with more than a million chips in their stack starting the day. With the blinds at the start of the day being 6k/12k-2k there is a lot of play still in this event.

The top stacks going into the day are:

  1. David “Bakes” Baker – 1,384,000
  2. Samuel Taylor – 1,216,000
  3. Athanasios Polychronopoulos – 1,135,000
  4. Paul Francoi Tedeschi – 850,000
  5. Brian Ray – 718,000
  6. Joseph Ward – 669,000
  7. EverettCarlton – 663,000
  8. Manuel Mutke – 619,000
  9. Joe Cada – 540,000
  10. Michael Kurth – 402,000

The players are going to be back in their seats at 1PM Las Vegas time.

Event #18

Day 1 of the $1,000 NLHE Event #18 saw 2,071 players enter, but only 163 are making it into Day 2. All of them have made the money as the bubble burst on Day 1, with 216 players getting at least $1,901.

Notables who aren’t making the trip back to the Amazon Room for this event include Elky, Greg Raymer, Annette Obrestad, Jason Mercier and Maria Ho (214th for $1,901).

Players still in you might have heard of include Sam Raxavi (13,000), Justin Bonomo (21,000) David Vamplew (23,700) and Phil Ivey (71,100).

The top ten stacks going into day 2 are:

  1. Chad Eveslage – 134,000
  2. Dan Martin – 124,800
  3. Niccoló Caramatti – 120,000
  4. James Cho – 115,400
  5. Charles Clark – 114,000
  6. Jason Everett – 102,000
  7. Dewayne Wheeland – 95,400
  8. Phil Ivey – 71,100
  9. Men Mguyen – 70,600
  10. Shannon Shorr – 69,800

The action commences in the Rio Casino at 13:00pst.

Event #19

Event #19 sees the return of one of the more unusual variants of poker, Pot Limit Hold’em. This $5,000 event only attracted 195 players to play for this title. Players who won;t be coming back for Day 2 include Phil Ivey (who was shuttling between this and Event #18) Phil Hellmuth, Dan Smith and Daniel Negreanu. Negreanu actually busted in the first hand of the day when he got it all in with a straight flush draw. I’ll let the man himself explain what happened.

The top ten stacks going into Day 2 are:

  1. Dimitar Danchev – 106,300
  2. Dmitry Vitkind – 92,000
  3. Ted Lawson – 91,000
  4. Eugene Katchalov – 87,000
  5. Matt O’Donnell – 74,400
  6. Kristijonas Andrulis – 72,300
  7. David Paredes – 69,900
  8. Dan Kelly – 67,200
  9. Jason Somerville – 66,200
  10. Jesse Martin – 63,200

The players will be back to start Day 2 at 14:00 local time.

Player of the Year

The Player of the year race is starting to bubble nicely, and new to the current top 10 today are Event #16 Winner Mark Radoja and Daniel Kelly. No-one is close to Negreanu yet, but as he’s only cashed once so far this WSOP, he knows he has to start heating up:

  1. Daniel Negreanu – 427.15
  2. Benny Chen – 300.00
  3. Mark Radoja – 292.50
  4. Charles Syvestre – 260.00
  5. Daniel Marton – 252.00
  6. Daniel Kelly – 250.20
  7. Mathew Waxman – 242.20
  8. Matthew Ashton – 240.75
  9. Trevor Pope – 240.00
  10. Levi Berger – 237.50
