    Default omaha hilo first attempt

While I was waiting for my NL table I decided it was the right time in my life to play some $25 pot limit omaha hilo for the first time for amusement. I decided it was time to quit when I found out what I thought was the nuts no g00t on last hand. How did I play these hands? how did my opponents do?

I think you need to get familiar with O8 starting hand requirements. None of your cards here are very impressive starters.

marjie took the low end of the pot. with a2456.

hand 1...this is a high low split game, and marie has an a-2 which giver her the nut low. if you want to play just high hands you need to play normal pot limit omaha.

hand 2...your hand sucks good fold.

hand 3...pretty good, but be aware of the fact that when you hit a full house in this manner you can easily lose to an over full in omaha. seems like this maria girl sucks though so i like it.

hand 4...you will have to ask some regulars but i personally don't raise pf w/ this hand. i considering calling surge or whatever because he is a short stack, and obviously judging what happened at showdown he is a donk. if you do call though you have to be willing to put in a decent sized raise when the guy who tagged along also calls.

    hand 5...good fold.

hand 6...no reason to raise w/ this hand in hi/lo. i would like it more if your aces was suited.

I'm not exactly a regular but if you're gonna play hand 4 you should raise it. You're chasing half the pot -- there is Zero chance you will scoop this. Your best hope is to get it HU and have big cards flop so there's no low.

Hand 1: Fold this hand preflop;big pairs without solid A-prime/Axs/or A-10 pt cards are not that strong in EP.Being that you raised and got reraised you can call since with all the cold callers you have some implied odds but REALLY need to hit this flop hard.

You made your Top Set which is good but remember that in O8 Top Set is still considered an underdog to a wraparound straight draw/or straight draw with a flush draw. If you're going to play get it all in on the flop which is good and pray.Preferably I would've liked to have seen you hold A2s or A3s to go along with the QQ; as you can still lock up half the pot if you can make a solid low in case your set gets cracked.

Being that you went in with a naked high (since we need to discount you 35s to be a weak low at best) your pot odds weren't as good as we'd like when playing a high hand only on a dangerous board. Which means you risked $25 to win $1 (with the possibility of being quartered or worse scooped).

Hand 2: Good gold preflop; Jc 4d 7d 8s is garbage no matter what position you play it from; I wouldn't be able to fold this fast enough in the SB. If you make a Jack high straight you will be vulnerable to a higher straight unless the flop is perfect (say T-9-7) or flush/boat redraw (backdoor is common) and lows will easily take half the pot from you.Needless to say 47 or 78 would give you the world's most useless low so the low possibilities are gone.

Hand 3: A SB call is ok unraised; with a raise OOP you are def looking to flop a monster. You make second trips which is ok; so if you're losing to a full house or better kicker you still have the King to draw to. The turn is kinda bad though as now TT, 66, and any random garbage trip Ten hand has you beat. Being villain is a shortstack I think a push is ok but don't be surpised to get scooped if you do this more often then not.Personally I would muck this hand preflop as 4c 7s Tc Kc only offers the second nut flush (easily a costly hand if you run into the Ace high flush WHICH does occur often), and 47 is a bad low draw as well.....scratch that a garbage low draw.

Hand 4: 9s Tc Ac Ks is worth a limp on the button or CO.Don't raise with this ESP in EP. Nines are dangerous cards in O8 unless your other 3 cards are very strong say A23 suited to the Ace, or ATK with the Nine suited to the Ace. At least you were able to release this preflop because you're OOP and facing a likely stronger hand.

hand 5: Thank you for folding this. 8d Th 6s Kc.

Hand 6: Again don't raise Ad 7c 7h Ks esp in EP. The Sevens are half worthless because even if you flop Top Set you can easily get outdrawn or lose to a better boat. Which makes AK the only hand here and you're not suited so you're looking to hit either Broadway or a moneyboat. We can discount A7 for any low as it'll def be worthless.

Thanks guys. I may stick to regular omaha if i play it at all. All these 'nut low' and 'scoop' shennanigans are meat nor fish to me in this hot weather.

Yeah all the hi-lo split games require that you can wrap your head around all the possible directions and different hand values/+EV plays... I am very strong in PL Omaha hi, but I'm sure I'm a donkey in PLO8.
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.
