Calling 2x and 3x potsize bets

I'm a novice beginner, just getting a feel for a lot of the math... I've read a lot on pot odds and number of outs and percentage of hitting on either turn or river and odds against making your hand, etc.

I am looking for advice and literature on calling/folding when there are pot size bets or 2x or 3x size pot bets. If it is as simple as comparing pots odds vs my percentage of the size of my call and the size of the pot (and implied pot odds), then everyone would just bet 2x the pot to prevent callers.

In this case, I have 2nd pair or top pair mid-kicker and may or may not have position on the bettor.

Thank you !luck. I see the error of my ways in my general question. Once the opponent bets, that money is already in the pot and my call will also be part of the pot and be a percentage of it.

It is as simple as that when the bet is an all-in bet, so that there will be no further betting on the next streets. Where you are mistaken is that you don't want to "prevent callers". In a cash game, you want people to call with a worse hand than yours (yes, even if they suck out on you sometimes). And you try to size your bet or raise high enough so that they will call with disfavorable odds (but not so high that they will fold their worse hand).

The only time you want to "prevent callers" is when you are bluffing. Then you want them to fold a better hand than yours.

in theory, when an opponent bets 2x the pot on the river we must be ahead at least 40% of the time for our call to be profitable. ex. pot size x opponent bets 2x pot size now 3x to call 2x so 3:2pot odds in other words we need to win 2out of 5 times.

As !luck and daviddem said, having an actual hand here would help a ton. But, fwiw, in most situations, I think that if we are even considering calling a 2x-3x pot sized bet on the turn or river, then our hand better be strong enough to go all in with, and we should just be shoving...not calling.
