Card ODD - do they work

Hope I'm using the technically correct term.
But I read a book on low limit that recommended using a given table to calculate the value of your hole cards. The assigned value like AA=33%
2-2 = 13%, and they recommend that you only enter the pot PREFLOP if the call is less than that percentage of the pot preflop. Example I'm holding 2-2 and I can get in the pot for a call that equates to say 10% of the pot, therefore ok.

Anyone heard of this, and does it work?

I've never heard of this but I'm a newbie. I can't think of a single reason why you wouldn't call a bet that's over 1/3 of the pot preflop with AA or even KK (given you don't have a strong read that someone has AA).

The 2-2 thing seems kinda sensible. Thats just about the % of times you will flop trips (and hopefully win)
I dont understand the AA though. Theres no way im folding AA preflop just because i have to call half the pot. To quote Fnord thats just like setting your bankroll on fire.

Math is a good thing. Don't let it control you though. NL is about implied odds and fold equity.

Actually, don't fold AA preflop at anytime.

Math is useful, but not this kind of math.

If you think about this, if anything you should enter a pot with AA when your call in MORE than the 33% in limit. So if you enter a pot 7 handed, then you contributed 14% preflop, where as if you're 2 handed, then it's more like 50%. which hand are you more likely to win? The one where you're 2 handed giving 50%, or the 7 handed 14% scenerio?

I don't see how any of this is relevant or useful in NLHE.

I've never seen it expressed this way, but these numbers make rough sense as compared to the player's stack(s) in NL. (It makes no sense compared to the percentage of the existing pot.)

With AA: you can raise up to 30% of your stacks, then push on the flop every time and be EV+.

With 22, you can call a raise up to 12% of your stacks then fold or push if you set it up, and be EV+.
