Year 2 of poker... keep a very accurate record of play (thanks pokertracker).

Have the roll (and skill) to confidently play 2/4 limit and 100NL.
    Longshot: Final table an MTT...

What stakes/time commitment do you forsee to make 80k?

    1) $100 to start 10NL

2)Get to 25NL and start bonus whoring (BR needed $250).

Incidently does anyone know anywhere i can start getting bonusses at 5NL?

I Started NL mid May this year with a $32 BR and a decision "to get seriously involved in poker"

I started at $10NL and moved up quite fast.
I reached $200 and $400NL on mid August.
I had made around $12.000 till then. (I was cashing out 2 times each month always leaving an increasing BR at the site, moving up at the same time)
September 1st I quit my part time job and started playing full time.
I have made another $28.000 since then (including a $4.000 bankroll that never leaves the site).
So my "lifetime poker winnings" stands at about $40.000. (almost half of this of course has been spent in several things like vacation/computer staff /drinks(I drink a lot :P) etc.)

I play 5-6 hours a day, 5 tabling a combination of 1/2 and 2/4, usually 22-25 days per month (unless I have to go on a long trip or sth).

As far as my goal is concerned:

I am gonna start playing more tables (open an account at a second site too) to have more rakeback and... make more money.
I have absolutely no problem playing up to 7-8 tables but I am gonna go for 9-10 (if I find it difficult I will stay at 7-8) probably starting at lower stakes ($100NL) at the new site while I get used to the bigger number of tables and the diffirent players there.

My goal is not $80.000 net profit, its $80.000 in my bank account... so my real goal should be around $100k with the rest of the money to be spent on living expenses (cost of living in Greece is not that big which is g00t heh).

So we are talking more or less for $10k per month (I am excluding 2 full months for vacation or sth).

Rakeback will be at least $1500/month so that leaves us with about $8.5k/month.

I think its fisible. Maybe a little optimistic, but still fisible. After all goals are there to push us to try harder and commit more.

EDIT: In Greece we use "," for decimal and "." for thousands. Really bored to correct all of my post now...

I started playing for money one month ago. I've since doubled my $50 investment on 5NL in about 24hrs playing.

My goal by the end of 2005 is to make it to 20xBuyIn 20NL ($200).

My goal from there is to get to 20xBuyIn 25NL ($500) by the end of june.

My goal by the end of the year is to get to 20xBuyIn 50NL ($1000).

.... BUT I WILL NOT ALLOW MY OUTSIDE GOALS AND FEELINGS AFFECT MY GAME.

I think you misunderstood his post, I cant see it saying anything about turning $32 into $40,000.

i didnt mean to quote that msg. that seems like a reasonable game plan. see m3 just above.

hope he leaves some for the rest of us.

Isn't 2006 kind of an arbitrary start and end date?
Why not set goals based on where you are and what you can achieve in a reasonable amount of time?
Why worry about how much you will make in the course of the coming year? A lot could affect that.
My main goal is to play better than I did in 2005, and hopefully have more money at the end of the year than I started with.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

m3l, he hasn't been here long. Cut him some slack.

My goal is to make 36K, 3k/month and quit my crummy job.

    That's $100/day, I can swing that I think.

I'd also like to make it past 100NL, which I just started, to 200NL.

So I guess my goal for 2006 is to move up to 400NL and routinely beat that game.

    Good luck to everyone!

I think at some point you may have to play beyond your bankroll. But it's definitely possible. Then again, I've never played that many tables at once so maybe he never had to play beyond his bankroll like I did.

Started with $50 bankroll in August...Up to $412 as of today. Been trying to crack the $500 barrier the last month 2 tabling $25 NL, but just can't seem to do it. Seem to be in a rut and can't figure out the leak. Maybe just had a bad month. Who knows!!! Goal for 2006 is to crack the $1000 barrier my mid year by 2 tabling $50 NL and to reach $100NL level and $2000 bankroll by the end of year. Not much of a tourney player, but it wold be nice to make it further than just ITM and make some serious money for my 3-4 hours of effort. I think it is going to take a lot of studying and learning how stay in balance during the cold streaks.

Yes, to a certain extent. I haven't made it past 100NL because I have cashed out 1/4 t0 1/2 of my roll at various times. I don't mean NEVER, but I would like to do it less frequently. The trick is to convince my girlfriend that poker is worth the time I put into it without her seeing any immediate benefits. At one point she accused me of depositing my paychecks into poker, because she kept on buying shit and not understanding where my paycheck went. Lmao. I was like "Listen bitch (she lets me call her that), I haven't put money into a poker site in over 8 months, and even then it was only $50 after busting down. Are you putting my paychecks into Walmart?"

Lots of times players get too caught up in the numbers, too caught up in their goals they are trying to achieve. I've heard it a number of times from players saying, "Dammit, I just can't crack the 'X' dollar range barrier." My advice would be to not get so caught up in the numbers. Make it a goal to play your "A game" at all times instead of hitting "X" number of dollars. If you play your "A game" your goals will be reached without problem.

As for my goal? I'm thinking 40k would be nice for 2006.

I don't have specific money goals.

I just want to keep extensive records. (which i've already started)
I want to play 20+ hours a week.

I agree. Its really just a number. Once you start thinking of it as a barrier it will become one. Everytime you get close to it you will rush your play, trying to force a win so you can break through that barrier even when you are getting cards that you really should be folding. If your play starts to change when you are close to these "barriers" then they will be very hard to get over. Im in the process of breaking the $100 barrier at the moment but im trying to just play my normal game and let the money (eventually) come to me. If i have to fold away a buyin or two along the way then so be it... as long as it was te right thing to do at the time

I put $90 into my UB account on Nov 28th, and it is up to $440 currently, even after not making any money my first week at UB. I started out playing 10NL but I've quickly moved up to 25 NL and have been crushing the game. My goal is to get my BR up to 1000 by mid-february and move up to 50 NL, and of course keep moving up as my BR grows. I would really like to stop sucking at MTT's as well.

My goal for 06 is to DEVELOP an "A" game... Right now I think I'm in C+ to B- territory, maybe worse, maybe better, but there's an incredible amount of room for improvement. Unfortunately I'm not sure where to start...

What I would REALLY like is some coaching...play with someone looking over my shoulder from time to time...maybe then I can think about setting goals like making 40K in a year. Right now that seems unbelievable to me
