hand review

Hey Guys! As suggested by spoon I have moved back down to 25NL and am playing with full stacks to sort out my game before moving back. I have just been kind of playing and making some ok monies but I want to make more. I have been running at 1.75 ptbb/100 and have logged 85k hands mostly at 25 NL. Anyway had one of my worst sessions ever couple of nights ago lost 6 buyins. Below are some of my biggest losing hands. Mostly I want to try and figure out if I can save some money in some situations. Please comment freely and thanks for any input. I ran at 21/11 over the session. The second hand (my second biggest loser) was my last of the session as I was pretty much a tilit monkey at that point.

Please please please please please use the Hand Converter at http://poker-tools.flopturnriver.com/Hand-Converter.php, and it's also listed on the left under Poker Tools. It also makes it easier to reference the hands if you number them. However, I'm glad you're taking the initiative in improving your own game, so I'll visit this thread again later to see if you've numbered the hands since I'm my laptop and can't scroll up and down and type and whatnot at the moment.

I tried to use the hand converter. I pasted the hand hit convert then cut and pasted the converted hand into this post. Got the message "cannot post urls until reach a 10 post count". Guess I will post somewhere else until I can get up to 10. I will number hands. As always thanks!

Thanks for the input. On hand 3 I put him on two pair or at best maybe maybe a set that I crushed on the river. Ive got the 3rd nuts here which means he has to call the pre flop raise with either 24 or 79. I just dont want to become one of those people that always feel they are up against the nuts. But again thanks. Hand 6 I put him on KJ and the way I had been running I was pretty sure I was beat.

What do you mean the way you had been running? It doesn't matter how you run, you should play the same.

Also, you forgot to include reads on opponents. So the advice could be wrong, I just said what I'd do against unknowns.

Hand 1: If you're going to bet the flop, bet it a little harder, like $1-$1.25 minimum. A minbet doesn't accomplish much there. As played you can't fold the river.

Hand 2: Flop check/raise is probably fine because of your combo draw and the fact that Villain's range is probably pretty weak here. Even against KJ you're only a 40/60 dog and against TT you're a little better than 2:1 behind, but he has worse the vast majority of the time. As played, the turn is a clear fold because you don't have the correct pot odds needed to call.

Hand 3: I raise harder preflop. A typical standard is 4 big blinds plus 1 big blind for each limper before you. Here you have 1 limper before you, so a raise to 5 big blinds would be more typical. Your smaller raise gives people great implied odds to call against you, like what happens in the hand. As played, the small raise on the flop allows you to get to the river with a smaller pot than if you call a bet on the flop then call another bet on the turn, and with the implied odds you gave preflop, pot control could definitely be a concern here. As played, I think you have to stack off on the river since most of the range Villain will stack off consists of sets and you have that beat.

Hand 4: Another good hand to learn about implied odds from. On the turn you let Villain call $4 to win $10.50 that's in the pot plus another $6.10 that you guys have behind for a total of $16.60. This means Villain's implied odds if he can always stack off when he makes his hand is 16.6:4 or 4.15:1. There are ten cards left in the deck that let him win by flush or straight (remember that the 3 or Q gives us a full house) and 44 cards left in the deck if we consider the case where Villain has 76 of diamonds. That means the chances of him hitting are 44:10 which is 4.4:1. This means that he never gets paid off enough to make the turn call correct on his behalf, even if you stack off on any river he decides to shove on. Keep in mind that this doesn't take into account the extra value you get when the river is the 3 or Q because Villain will stack off on those hands when he is behind. The point is that your bet on the turn gives him no +EV decisions and he can only make a mistake if he doesn't fold.

Hand 5: I probably wouldn't double-barrel here since basically anything that called the flop is calling the turn in BB's range, so I would check and hope for a free card since we have little or no fold equity.

Hand 6: Well there are two ways to approach this hand. One way is to raise flop, raise turn, and get it in since the big blind seems to not have much with his little donk bets. The other is to just call the flop to have a smaller pot to play on later streets so you're less likely to get stacked by a better hand and more likely to get value from worse hands.

Hand 4 Here I am not sure I understand. The way I try to play poker is to get people to to put as much money in as possible when they are as far behind as possible (when my equity is greatest). Worked perfect on the flop I was 67% ahead and he called a huge reraise. Also told me he was more than likey on a draw. I put him on a bare flush draw The Qc missed all draws so now I am way ahead with one card to come so how do I get him to put the most money in when he has the least equit. If he is on the fd he has 15% turns out he had a gutter as which put him at 23% equity. Point is I want the call all day every day for the most amount of money. I thought 4 was the ideal amound because it doesnt blow him out of the hand when he only has 15-23% equity.

Hand 6 Meh I hate these situations and would rather wait for a less marginal spot so I just fold. I know Im a puss. But again thanks. I had another 4 buy in losing session the next night and will post a few of those hands as well.

Hand 4 has the most instructive potential for you, and so my suggestion would be for you to study the idea I explained about his turn call being incorrect regardless of what happens on the river (even if you pay him off every time he hits).

I am cautiously optimistic that I didnt see any "oh you noob you should have done xyz here here and here you should be playing 01/02 nl poker.
