I didnt think he would call unless he had AQ, AK or 88. If I check I think I can get some value from 99-jj on turn and river.

so you're going to let him draw out for free?
say he has a hand like JT, KJ, Axs, or even 22
are you going to let him check behind and possibly win the pot by drawing out on the turn?

With 11/10 stats I didnt think he was calling a raise with JK, JT, Axs. I put him on any pp, AK, AQ. Never really noticed he was on the button so that might open up his range a bit.

yes, but he checks those hands behind and sometimes improves on the turn

Hes tighter than me and I dont call a raise with AJ, maybe AJs on the button.

Some pretty serious fundamental errors on both hands. You absolutely butchered the flop in hand 2, and WTF on the turn?

And your thinking is WAY off on hand 1

To elaborate on some of this...

In hand one you need to expand the range you're allowing for your opponent based on the fact that you're raising from late position and he is calling from the button. Unless he is completely unaware of position, AJ is almost certainly in most 11/10 player's ranges there. So is AT and so are a decent number of pairs. It's entirely possible that position would get him to add in suited broadways even, though I'll admit, that's a bit of a stretch.

Anyway, the point is that there are many hands that you beat that may still call there. Further, by checking you let him have a change to improve to beat you for free. You must protect hands as vulnerable as TPTK. With three betting streets, you can't simplify it down to "he only calls when I'm beat." There's just too much for you to lose in equity by checking.

In hand two, you flopped TPTK with the nut flush draw against an opponent who isn't likely to be playing suited cards (since he can't have the A). This is a flop you should be willing to gamble on - be ready to get all the chips in 100% of the time if given an opportunity. You have his range beat solidly.

Im not sure what you mean by butchered or what you mean by WTF on turn. Is turn an easy call? Should I be stacking off on the flop? And what are your thoughts on hand 1? I should cbet and call a reraise or push, or cbet fold to 3bet?

I'm 3-betting the flop in hand 2 and calling a shove
worst case you're drawing to a flush
and sometimes you're ahead of his pair/fd

leave the table if you flop TPTK and feel c/call c/fold is the best line on AQxr x board.

he should fold preflop imo since TPTK is the most likely thing he's going to flop

I dont think that any more thanks to this post, and I never really thought that was correct in the first place which is why I posted the hand.

In hand 1: either check/raise the flop (since you decided not to Cbet the best hand) ...or, if you just check/ called then why the heck fold to his PSB on a blank turn? he now thinks he has the best A and is trying to value town you. take his money.

In hand 2: you are against a station and flopped a monster. At least put in a big as heck reraise if not a shove. don't wait until you miss the flush on the turn to have to let your children drown in the pool when villain does the shoving for ya.
