    Default How much is the rake?

    Has anyone counted on rakes and what it actually costs per 100 hands to play? Of course there are differences in poker rooms and stakes, but a rough number would be great.

    It completely depends on what limit table you are playing at, and possibly what site you play at. If you are refering to how much an individual would lose, I would say it really depends on how many hands played and won. I would guess probably 1-2%, or that you would make 1-2% more without a rake.

    However, if the rake is capped at the higher limits, I believe you loses would be lower. (ex $3 max rake on any hand)

    Grab the demo version of poker tracker and upload all your HH to it.

    You can view the 'rake paid' for your first 1000 hands, it will enlighten you, but not in a good way.

    after downloading pt and playing 280 hands I get:
    rake = $1.75 = 6.2 Big Blinds / 100 hands (=3.1 big bets/100)
    playing .05 / .10 NL at UB

    not many hands, I know, but is this a reasonable number compared to other players and sites?

    Depends on your limits and your looseness.

    Limits: At upper limits (15/30, for example), the rake is very small in relation to the pot, so your percentage rake is much lower. The rake is still capped at $3 on those tables, but the average pot is usually in the $240 and up range. 3/240 = 1.25%. Compare that to, say, a 5/10 table with average pot of $75. 3/75 = 4%. At lower limits, you're essentially paying 5% every hand that isn't folded to the BB.

    Looseness: Playing more pots = winning more pots = paying more rake. The more you trade money back and forth, the more opportunity the house has to take money off the table.

    At .01/.02 there's no rake! I need to start playing there more

    Wag, I expect at the limits we play it's 5% most of the time.

    I've heard of B&M tables having as high as 10%. That'd just make me want to go play online...
