The above assumes that you know what pot odds and equity are and how they relate. If you don't, read everything you find in the articles section of the forum about pot odds and bet sizing. Also read all the threads by Spoonitnow. And read this book: no limit theory and practice by Sklansky.
In the meantime, if you don't know how much to bet, 2/3rd of the pot is a decent default size.
