KK on big blind $0.02NLH

Did I overexpose myself to risk pre-flop?

I am totally beginning, just trying to get my head around position and pre-flop selection, so please focus advice on that.

Slow table. Very, very cautious for a $0.01/$0.02NL game, people raising 4x bb and folding often if challenged. I had had 30 hands of which I had played only 1 as my draws were rubbish.

First off, bikes has answered that question - thereby allowing me to cheat!

Well, let's start with why I called so you guys can tell me why that was not the best. I didn't want to scare people out of the pot.

But this means I lost initiative? Is that right? And what impact does that have?

If were doing this again and I did 3bet I would be guestimating how much because I am not yet sure of the maths involved. But I would want to make it expensive for the people who raised before me to stay in.

At my point of first action the pot was $0.14. If I matched that, folks would have to pay half of that (ish) to have a stab at the pot. If I went up to $0.30 as suggested by bikes, MP2 would have had to put in another $0.24 for a stab at $0.44 in the pot. Worse odds for him? If I put too much in, I risk overexposure?

Is my reasoning even close to being right?

As it happened MP2 had QQ, MP1 had 99.

I did win that pot!

Ok so preflop you want to be 3betting always here. People call with lots of worse hands and seeing a flop 4 way with KK out of position isn't a good situation.

If you did 3bet what size would you make it and why?

3bet preflop to the first raise because there are plenty of worse hands that your opponents will have that continues. We want to start building the pot early so we can win more money.

As Hoopy said, you really really really don't want to play a hand like KK multi-way out of position. You're setting yourself up to lose a big pot. You have to raise here.

I mentioned before in another one of your posts "For the love of Poker Jesus don't bluff". What you did here is bluff by trying to disguise your hand's strength. Just raise... they'll call with way worse here.

I read that advice. I took it on board. But in my mind what I thought was 'he means overstating your hand'. I totally see what you mean here.

Although I came out tops I had this feeling that I had deviated from the plan and your words light that up. Back to solid ABC! Well, I'll try, anyway!

I have also been looking back to see if boredom was a factor. Thankfully I think I can honestly say that it was not. It was a slow hand for me with very poor hands dealt to me, but I am ok with that. I was also playing a single table and at the same time trying to sort out a Mac computer compatible super sign-up bonus. The two villains of the piece were newish to the table.

I think it is a plan to post at least one hand from every session now. You guys really help me to think about this stuff and my (so far) single coaching session with bikes is really helping to place it all in my head.

at micro stakes you don't have to slowplay preflop because ppl calls with almost everything (mostly fishes), so you just want to extract as much value from your hand as you can on every streets with a monster.
