    Default More Bankroll Management

As we all know, 'rilla has been having a tough time lately. A month´s downswing if I recall right! My question for you is: have you reevaluated your recommendations for a proper bankroll after this experience or are you confident that the 12-15 buy-ins (or even 20) you talk about in the thread of the top of this forum is enough?

Then another thing in the same subject. These recommendations are often about the number of buy-ins you would need, more seldom about the blinds. But I think it´s obvious that it´s more risky to play .50/1 at Party´s former structure with a $50 buy-in, than it is to play at Absolute where you can buy in for $50 at the .10/.25 tables. I actually think that the blinds are a bigger factor than the buy-in, because all bets are sized in relation to the pot which in turn is related to the blinds, and the only time your buy-in really counts is in an AI situation which happens far from every hand.

Maybe someone could figure out some new recommendations with the formula "X big blinds or X buy-ins, whichever equals the most amount of money"?

I think 20 buyin is a nice safe number. Not everyone gets to downswing quite like me.

You have a good point about the blinds. Anyone have a suggestion?

---- caveat: I generally suck at online NL ring games, but hold my own in live ring games with a 100 BB buy-in ----

Depends on your playing ability. If you are a better player, you will be able to extract more money from the fish, when you make your hand and they are to stupid to fold. If you are a bad player, you will obviously be on the other end of that. So if you are a good player, this change will not effect your downswings as much as it would a bad player.

Many party NL players adjusted their game to this relative short stack; I have several friends around town, that have been playing the 100NL tables for months and a few that have been doing it "pro" for over a year. The non-pro players preach the mantra of "Sets and flushes". While these will still be big earners for them, they will probably have to open up their game a little and start playing real poker now. The pro players have been playing a looser style "see cheap flops, and punish the tight players if you hit a good one, because they cant fold their big pairs or AK". This shouldnt need as much adjustment.

Is that guy still part of the forum??

I like 30 buy ins for NL...that way you never start squirming in your chair when your down 5 buy ins in a day.

Using my buy-in-with-less-than-max approach (I know, you all hate me and I'm stupid for it), I tend to follow a big blind must be < 1/700 of BR - and even then I tune it to fit my level of play against the typical player at that level (i.e. I'll play .25/.5 with a $350 roll easily, but I'd think twice about .5/1 with a $700 roll). I've stretched that a bit for levels I'm sure I can pwn (i.e playing .1/.25 with less than $175...even to a lesser degree at the .25/.5 level).

Neglecting the tilt session last week, I'm hitting about 5BB/100 over 6000 hands. Decent while BR building, I think.

Reguardless of the new change, I think you should be looking for a minimum of 20 buyins, maybe upwards of 30 depending on how swingy your play is. But that's just me speaking from shell-shock.

I like to stuff my entire BR into one buyin. Just yesterday, I took my $215 in Eurobet and played a $200+15 SnG. It was fun.

"Take my entier bankroll" can mean more than one thing.

    1) Take all my poker money, and flip a coin to see if i will need to start all over.

    2) Take all the money i have on this site and flip a coin with it.

    2 totally diffrent things.

    I've done the second.

    Never the first.

    Q. Is poker Gambling?
    A. Do you use correct bankroll management?

Yah, I do something similar to number 2, except I don't flip a coin, I win the damn thing.

You're bound to get sucked out on or make a bad play. Not safe, but I am not your daddy and I am sure you know the risk you are taking.

Funny thing is my friend has put his entire BR on the line twice in the 200+15 SNGS on Party and won both.
