an observation about reviews and how people are just stupid
Since discovering FTR I've slowly been exploring the site. I've been reading player reviews of online poker rooms lately and this has served to bolster one of the ideas that I consider a fundamental tenet of my outlook on life: People are just generally stupid! I mean, really, poker has been the "hottest thing" for what, 3 years or more now? How can there still be players out there who don't understand that UB, Stars, Party, FullTilt and the other big name rooms DON'T HAVE TO CHEAT YOU TO MAKE MONEY!!!!! In fact, if they cheat their players, the players will be pissed off and WILL GO PLAY SOMEWHERE ELSE TAKING THEIR ACTION WITH THEM!!!!! I knew about the rake 2 minutes after I sat down at my first game. About 30 seconds after that I'd figured out that if you are a big loser, the "house" makes money. If you are a big winner, the house makes money. If you play for 100 consecutive hours and leave your table with precisely the amount of money you sat down with, the house makes money. In short, the only thing an online poker room cares about is getting as much action as possible, wherever it comes from. If you contact customer service a few dozen times to complain because your Pentium 90mhz hotbox with a 1gig HDD and 32MB RAM on dial up AOL keeps locking up whenever more than 3 players enter a pot, they will NOT automatically "fix it" so you never again get a pocket pair higher than 44.
Seriously though, the kind of irrational, delusional rambling I see in the reviews makes me salivate to go play poker. Just one more sign that Steelhead may be an Endangered Species and Pacific Salmon may be on the ropes, but one species of fish will always be in steady supply!
