I don't know if anybody's keeping count...but it almost seems like it can become a 32-man tournament.
That's how winners play; we convince the other guy he's making all the right moves.

I'm in! But do I need to deposit money in PokerStars to send you the money? What's the minimum deposit for PS? I don't really wanna have to start a 2nd BR on a 2nd site.
    OP: Beginner to Master

If I bet as a bluff, I should be thinking "am I getting better hands to fold? Is it likely that he will fold x% of the time to a y sized bet to make it +EV?". If I bet for value, I should be thinking "am I getting worst hands to call? Am I ahead of enough of his range that this is a good value bet?".
  20. #95
Lol...why do I see this as a 128 man $1 tourney happening in 2 months?

I think we should probably try this 16 man out first, get it done with, and then take suggestions for a 32 and more.

It isn't that bad. You should try out PokerStars anyway. The rake on FTP will kill you!

Oh really?? I didn't think there'd be that big of a difference on rake amounts between those two sites. Does PS have some cool stuff you can get with their points? I calculated that within 3 years @ FT, I should get enough points to get a MacBook

Subs keep your monies like Muzz said.

BooG still not enough people for a 32 man. (I edit the original post every time if you want to check the status).

xpaand yea you can get some pretty decent shit from pokerstars, but its kind of hard to get fpps until you get 10nl+, actually probably 25nl+. The rake won't KILL you at FullTilt, but its definitely not as bad at pokerstars. Do whatever you are comfortable with.

FPP's dont really come through at a good rate until like 50nl, where you can hit platinum consistently and get supernova. I think in general though stars>FTP. If you have an RB account its probably best you stay at FTP until 50nl then move your roll over.
  29. #104
I totally agree about stars>FTP. Idk y, but the avatars and the interface life tilt me so hard its ridiculous, but with stars I dont feel like choking someone out lol.

Not for HU NL cash since you get crap for points
for HU SNGs you can still get super nova, though

I didn't know what else to call it. How about Dungeon Master (kinky)? Or ringmaster, since we are all n00b clowns anyways.

I really like the idea of this, by the way. We could do one table cash game eliminations as well like in poker after dark. (play money of course) with a small prize for winner take all.. say $9?

Could make a small stakes league out of it and keep point totals like the gauntlet?

Any of the above sounds fun.. could just make a couple of regular games a week and have everyone play in X games during a X week season. Winner of the league gets FTR prize/Entry into a stars step sng or something.. anything works.

Anyone motivated to organize this type of thing? (I wish I had the time) It'd be great to analyze hands from it on the forums.. the learning process would be better since multiple FTR peeps were involved in the action.
    lol @ gamemaster

These are some great ideas though. Another idea would just be to set up a time and play some cash with other FTR members on a specified table. I like the idea of being able to play with FTR micro players in some form (sng's, cash games, etc..) because afterwards we could go over some interesting spots and thought processes.

Also, thanks to dranger for organizing all this. Does anyone else think having more than 3 days for the match would be better? I sometimes get pretty busy and playing 3 heads up games may take quite a bit of time.
  35. #110
Nah dude it really wont take more than 3 days. I mean if you and the other guy have ~2 hours on any given day then that should be enough time, if not you still have 70 hours lol.

3 days is plenty. If you need more time, fine but no sense in dragging it out.

They have pretty good stuff on PS too. Remember, FTP takes 1 cent off for every 15 cents. That means at 90 cents, they take off 5 cents. PokerStars does not take off a rake until the pot reaches 1 dollar (and it will continue to only take rake when it reaches the dollar) and this rake is 5 cents. This means that you may be paying 5 cents off per pot when PS would not take any. Also, for example, a pot of $2.70 would be taking $.15 at FTP while taking only $.10 at PokerStars (since it did not yet reach the $3 mark). At the micro level, this is big.

ok you make a good point. I anticipate being able to finish the matches in time but its good to know that if something comes up then we can get a little extra time and not be disqualified.
  38. #113
I think thats a two sided coin. If everyone finishes their matches within the first 3 days, we can bump up the schedule. And it would be pointless to disqualify an entire bracket just for taking too much time, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I think we should set official dates, get them posted up. 5/6 days till it starts, eveyone will need notice and be able to get in contact with the opponent beforehand to arrange times.

I'm also still missing payment from a coupla ppl.
  40. #115
Yea i know you are, I'm gonna said Ragnar4 a PM telling him to either come in here and confirm in by Wednesday night, or I'm taking him off the list and mrhappy333 will take his place.

i'll send PMs to the others too.

Setting dates for the tournament in the first post.

    dranger,

I don't want to commit you to even more responsibility but here's an idea I just had:

if ragnar and mrhappy end up playing then maybe the alternates could play their own 8 player HU tourney?? or maybe one of them could help you organize it? Dunno, just throwing thoughts out there but I know I was pretty happy to get my spot.
  44. #119
Well, if they want to do that, thats cool, but I don't feel like organizing two at once. Although, as soon this one is done, I plan on having another one shortly after. I would like to get at least 3 before I go to boot tbh. So these guys won't be left out in the cold for long, they will be guaranteed a spot in the next tournament.

Blah. I want to.. But I'm moving and may not be able to get my HU rounds taken care of. This move is hell.

Ragnar4 is out for this tourney.

    GL whoever takes my spot.
The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their mistakes

Just waiting for mrhappy333 to ship payment and thats everyone.

I think once thats done, we might as well do the brackets so we know whats coming and who to contact. Doing it on Sunday doesnt leave us much time to get sorted out.

Do the brackets, do the brackets!!!!

And don't give me this IOPQ dude in the first round. I hear he brings darkness to childrens' hearts and pwns HU or something.
  53. #128
Just a random thought which has likely been addressed.

I think I saw a post where dranger suggested that the round would be finished and then we'd randomly set up matchups for the next round. If this is still the approach being considered I'd suggest changing it.

Sort out all the matchups ahead of time imo and give a full schedule. Say players 1 and 14 meet in the first round and the winner battles it out with the winner of 5 and 8. Basically have the whole thing mapped out from the beginning. This makes it much easier to find that extra day or two to coordinate your matchup in the next round.
  54. #129
Well, I'm going to use a bracket maker for the tournament so I guess I could do that. Makes sense, but I don't want people to be taking it into their own hands and accidentally play the wrong person or something. I want this to progress at a steady pace, not rush to get done.

I will try to get the brackets done asap, but I have some stuff I gotta do for the Marines today and I won't be back until tonight, so I'll probably finish them then.

I guess if you and the other player work it out and its agreed, I dont mind, but I dont want to hear anyone bitching saying "O well I thought it was just practice so it doesn't count!!!" You've been warned.

Good luck all LET THIS SHIT BEGIN!!! (Also, the next round will start on Tuesday as planned unless all teams finish before hand.)
