    Default Payment options

I've been playing at the free tables for awhile, and I'm ready to try my luck at money tabels. I've tried to read the fine print for all the different options, but have not settled on one. Any suggestions? I'm looking for something safe that has relatively low or no fees to move money between my account at the site and whatever method/account I choose.

Should I set up another account(at my bank) just for this purpose(poker) to limit my losses if something catastrophic happens.

Any other info or links is appreciated

    Thanks....

I use IGM-Pay at PartyPoker. If you've ever used a PayPal account, it's identical, except it's a Canadian company.

Basically, it serves as an agent between your poker account and whatever bank account you choose -- my checking account, in my case. There is no fee. Transactions are instant. One-time account verification is either instant (if you've used services like PayPal) or takes a couple of days.

Other sites (such as Ultimate Bet) use a service called NETeller. It's the same sort of thing. Also no fee.

This is what I recommend. I would never play with a credit card. I only play with real money in my checking account.

    Hey Beginner,

PartyPoker is our favorite cardroom, and this is one of the reasons why. Cashing in and out is very simple. This is how I do it:

I have an ATM card for one of my checking accounts which I use for deposits. I use the ATM card as a credit card to make these deposits, so I select Visa. I normally deposit $50 or $100, unless I have a chance at cashing in on some bonus money (which you have the opportunity to do), in which case I deposit the max to take advantage of that bonus ($500). There is no charge for these deposits.

Now, to withdraw, I use IGM-Pay which Xianti also posted. IGM-Pay performs a direct deposit from PartyPoker to my same checking account (from which I used my ATM). IGM-Pay will ask for your routing/account number, and then perform a couple of deposits that are under $1. After a couple of days, you can then verify those amounts and confirm to IGM-Pay that the deposit worked. After that, you can withdraw any time. And IGM-Pay is free of charge.

At Paradise Poker and UltimateBet, I would have to wait weeks for paper checks to come in. PartyPoker is a snap - free of charge and much quicker.

You don't need to open a separate bank account to limit your losses since you are in control of what you deposit into your PartyPoker account. I tend to keep a running balance of about $100 in my PartyPoker account. Whenever I reach $150 or $200, I cash out. You may want to use a separate account for poker just to make it easier to reconcile your cash in's and out's, and to keep track of your profitability, but that's entirely up to you.

Good luck beginner, take it slow, play tight, bet the hands when you are winning, fold the hands when you are losing.

Keep us posted, we should be able to help you.

Thanks for the advice, fellas. I appreciate words of wisdom from old pros. I just wanted to play it safe until I'm comfortable with how all this works.

Not the same topic, but is there any drawback to playing on a dialup line vs high-speed(other than, obviously, speed)? Am I more prone to disconnects or not responding quick enough(thus folding my hand, I assume)? I'm looking at getting DSL or cable and wondering if I should wait until then to start playing real money games.

    Thanks again...

Dial up will work fine with PartyPoker. (Make sure you have call waiting turned off though!!)

PartyPoker does not require much throughput, and a dial-up line is ample, you will hardly notice any difference, and you won't be folded out because of delays.

We have several players on dial up, I've even played on dial up at my Mom's place, it works perfectly so don't sweat it.
