To push or not to push?

I had a dilema in a tourney that I played in last night that I'm not sure if I made the correct decision on and wanted some input from you guys. The blinds were 4K/8k and I had about 22K. I wasn't the short stack at the table, but the BB was on my right, so unless I won a pot in the next 3 hands, I was going to be the short stack. I was dealt 9 4 suited. There were 8 people left at the table. What would you do?

Was just reading "tournament poker for advanced players" and Sclansky says that even if your stack is only one BB you should even fold UTG with anything that is average or slightly better than the average hand (Q7) and wait for the BB.You dont really have any folding equity here with less than 3BB stack I think you are 99% called by sth.94 is much worse than the average, so I say fold.

Read HoH2. You're at M<2 so your goose is cooked unless you go all-in right now. In this situation your 1st-to-act vigorish is more important than position or cards. You go all-in right there, you will have two live cards in most cases if you get called (about 35% against a single caller). You can still hurt them with your 22k so there's a good chance you will not get called. If you wait until the BB its possible someone else will put you all-in and you will lose any chance of winning the hand uncontested.

one thing to note as well though about the HoH push advice is to consider the size of the other stacks at the table. If everyone is close to even and the blinds are just stupidly high in relation to everyone then the push might get some folds. If on ther other hand there is a stack much larger then everyone else, its very likely that the big guy will call with any 2 trying to bust you. I'd have probably waited till the BB and hoped for something better then this junk to go all in with but it depends almost purely on the state of the table.

I wouldn't elect to blow 1BB on that hand when you only have 3 hands left in your stack and are going to be forced into the next 2. 94s is even worse here because you are first after the blinds and if there is a raise you'd probably have to fold (still losing the money) or go all in on a 94 and be facing off against a better hand. Calling here is definitely a quicker path out of the tourney. Pushing all in might buy you the blinds, but with the other stacks being short, a decent hand will probably call you for the double-up.

Push. Probably there was a hand before this you'd have been better off with, but this one is OK too.

No. The higher the blinds are relative to the table's stacks the more likely people are to call you.

Regardless I like moving in here. At this point your stack is a lot more important than your cards.

I believe your best option was to pick your spots in the last orbit or two where it was push/fold time....this may have picked you up the blinds to wait a few more hands for something better than 94o...

If the table is tight....I would push there, maybe get a caller and have 2 live cards and hope for the best....if at a loose table, I dunno.
