    Default Strategy vs uber fish

Looking for advice on how others approach playing this type of player.

This player plays >50% of hands, once they enter the pot (usually limping) they will call any raise to see the flop. After the flop if they want to proceed usually are a calling station, almost never playing back at you.

I usually tighten my range a little, if I play I raise pre-flop. Do not Cbet them near as often.

I have run into a couple of these types of players recently, unfortunately they were running like god. I know eventually they will lose it all, but I want the chips shipped to me and not another player.

Also if you realize they are getting a bruised forehead from the deck smacking them, do you just stay away or do you adjust strategy to accomdate?

Sometimes the cards will not come your way and their chips will go to others. Nothing you can do if you're getting 7,4 T,6 etc dealt to you.
When you are in a hand with them, make sure you value bet them for 3 streets when you have TP and sometimes even 2nd pair. And dont bet 1/4 pot if they are willing to call 3/4 pot bets. Just extract as much blood from them as possible.

If you have good cards like say AQ and you dont pair and the board but the board is unthreatening, I will sometimes let them do the betting and bluff away, just make sure the board has low cards that are unlikey to help him.

I have had a few situations like this where I make nothing off these guys b/c of my cards but the times I can, they are usually busted after only a few hands. Happy hunting!

KQo or 77 on the button? raise preflop
middle pair on the flop? bet
top pair on the turn? bet
top pair top kicker on the river? shove

Im opedipus bitch, the original balla.
Pretty simple. From a theory perspective, what is their leaks? Well simply put, they play too many hands. They see a lot of flops with speculative holdings (very speculative), and once they get to the flop they generally don't like folding. Does that about sum it up?

Well what does that mean for how we should play? Well, he plays a wide (and weak) range of hands, and hates to fold. So in order to exploit this villain, we need to (1) play a range that is on average ahead of his range (2) value bet often because he hates to fold, and (3) bluff rarely because he hates to fold.

So say you are the uber fish here, and you play 50% of hands preflop. Let's say I usually play 15% of hands. Now that I know you are playing loads of hands, do this mean I should tighten or loosen up my starting range? Should I go down to playing say 10% of hands, or open up to 20% or more (barring other circumstances)? It's pretty simple, either way my range will be ahead of your range on average. However, playing a wide range preflop (say 20% of hands) means I get to see a lot more flops against you (the uber fish) where I have a stronger range, and a very likely post-flop edge. This is going to make for a very profitable situation. If I were to tighten up to only playing the premiums, then sure I will get your money in time most likely, but I'm still missing out on a lot of profitable spots when I have say KT, and you want to get K2 all in on a K73r board, and other such situations.

So in essence, if you are trying to figure out how to exploit someone, find their leaks first. Then think through what type of mistakes they are making and how best to exploit those mistakes. If someone is cbetting flops very often, but folding to raises often, then we should be bluff raising more, and probably raising less often for value. If someone is cbetting very seldomly, we should probably fold to their cbets with a higher frequency when we have marginal holdings. Someone never folds? Don't bluff, and value bet loads of hands (your situation).

I have lots of experience dealing with players like these in the live games that I play. What I can tell you is you need to not get upset if his money is going to other players instead of you. If youre going after this player in an attempt to gain his chips youre going to leave yourself vulnerable to other players.

This may sound a bit counter-intuitive but a good strategy is just to try and play more pots with him by limping behind with some hands that you would normally fold.

You should only be willing to play these added hands from late postition and you are essentially going to play fit or fold. Your implied odds will be high, because if you do hit hard you are able to exploit the fact that he calls too often postflop. Think of it as investing 1bb to potentially win a good portion of his stack.

Obviously limping with weaker hands is a fundamental mistake, but its a mstake you should be willing to make because it will allow you to take advantage of the HUGE mistakes that your fish will be making postflop.

These players can be frustrating to play against particularly when you are not making any hands. However, they are probably the most profitable to play against if you just excercise a little patience.

In those situations, I normally wait until I have a monster and put him all-in. Works just fine. Of course, you get donked out sometimes, but more often than not the guy is just dead money.
