    Default Table chat

Only 10NL because I had no BR left, but i was surprised how big of an influence table chat can sometimes be. 10NL probably the only stake where this really works though. For example:

I pick up aces, open shove my 200BB stack and type "77 let's gamble". Fullstack guy calls me with KQ lol.

Reraised pot, I have top set with KK, and by the turn the pot is 100BB with 4 people still in the hand, and I shove in the rest (slight overbet of the pot). The first guy folds, but types "bluff!". You just KNOW the other two are gonna call then

This shortie kept busting and rebuying in consecutive hands by going allin, so I was comforting him that his luck would surely turn around (so that he would stay obviously). Finally he had coin-flipped his stack up to 150BB, and I was telling the table we should all go allin preflop and have a nice gamble around the table etc. So then I look down at KK when the guy with his 150BB stack types "allin!". I oblige and open push 300BB. He calls with JJ. Funniest of all.. another guy (200BB stack) with some trash hand calls behind! (JJ sucked out on me though but I got some money back from the third guy)

Anyone else do stuff like this?

Seems good. You talk loose and play tight. Nice job to encourage people to gamble. I will try this at NL. Sometimes when I lose a pot I tell everyone I am tilted and then I only play solid hands. Not sure it works but I say Mike Matusow doing this so I will try. It should work at 25NL.

It wont work against competent players or multitablers with HUDs (who probably dont even read chat most of the time) but its a good way to speed up the process against a real fish.
gabe: Ive dropped almost 100k in the past 35 days.

    Werd.

But for the single table gambling donkies (at least as far as 100NL) you can piss them off or throw them off with some well timed chat.

here's my new strategy, and it's working a treat.

    "hey everryone, hower you doin?
    oops
I'm a bit drunk, jubt been at the pubf for a bit.

    Lets play some pokaH!

Then call down something cheap to the river with either A high or bottom pair. and say
"Oh well, it's only money, and i'm here to have fun."

    Instant table image!!

People can't wait to call me with TPTK when their an obvious flush, straight, whatever.

    Hustle hustle

It works? Great thing! Which level?
  7. #7
$25 NL, and it's really working great.

Another great "drunk" thing to do is announce what hand you have preflop, and then show you were telling the truth at the end.

I had 2 players stack off with me when i flopped my A high flush, even though before the hand i said

    "i have Ax suited"

It doesn't take much effort, if you multi table just try it on one table, and watch how much more action you get on that one than the other ones.

If you are not heads up, this is a no-no and can get you into shit with the poker room. Be careful with it.

oops, my bad, will refrain from now on. Thanks for the hot tip.

I had a funny experience with this last session.
I made some small dopey river bluff with a busted draw and got called when someone spiked an over on the river.

Two guys at the table started berating me for my play, and I started to blast back, acting like a tilting idiot, but playing tight. Of course, I got somewhat colddeecked, and found myself raising some junk just to make it look like I was still tilting.

Net result: not much. I lost a couple small pots, then won it back. Best was when I got minraised on the river by 2nd pair and called with TPNK. meh.

I did notice that I was completely focused on the two yabbos who were baiting me, ignoring the rest of the table (and my other FR table as well).

Just act like a dunken, gambling idiot at the table. Works for me.

    Sports Betting
    Strippers
    Booze
    Blackjack, Craps, SLOT MACHINES

All great table talk subjects. I have no idea was posses people to talk about how to play poker well at the table.

    my favorite tactic...

when a guy folds to your big raise, and says, "what you have?"

...just sit there quietly and completely ignore him. that pisses them off big time. seems most people respond. he will NOT make the laydown the next time.
LHE is a game where your skill keeps you breakeven until you hit your rush of random BS.

Nothing beats flopping quads while dropping a duece!

Give him multiple answers. Use words like "maybe" a lot. Don't give a definative answer. It will trigger weaker players to look you up. (thanks Mike Caro.)

A little spiteful and it's definative. There is more room to tease.

I generally watch Tv while playing poker. If nothing good is on to entertain me I like to chat it up and annoy guys to keep my interest.

My favorite is to be the know-it-all guy preaching really bad strategy and telling other guys how they should have played different and offer up bad advice. I don't know if it helps my game but I have fun doing it...

    I just type "72o"
Then follow up with "It has more bluffing value than people give it credit for."

Yeah I only do "crazy table talk" when I'm a bit bored and need some entertainment. Most of the time I don't say a word. But those rare occurrences that I do, I feel it actually helps to get the table to loosen up, do crazy things, gamble more etc, hence why I made this post.

    Story time...

I'm playing 1/2NL at foxwoods, and a prize fish sits down across the table from me. It was a pretty loose table, but in this particular hand it was the new guy limping to me in the button. I wanted to isolate and feel the guy out since I figured I could steer him around pretty good (I had no idea...). I make it $12 to go with 74s.

So the flop comes out 568r, he checks, I bet 25, he calls. the turn is a J, he checks, I bet 65, and he calls again. At this point he's got about $250 behind, and I've got about $400. The river is a blank (2 or 3 I think), and he checks again.

    I just moved in.

He's sitting there, thinking about it. He gives me this look like "Ok, you can have this one." So he's about to muck his hand and I just smile at him.

He holds back the fold and asks, "What have you got?"

    "You covered."

    "Alright, I call."

He shows Q6. tyvm sir, good hand.

I posted a thread awhile back when I sucked out on a guy with a lower pp vs his AA. Being the honorable winner that I am, I then dragged out a long convo about how I missed my last 7 pps for sets and was "due". I backed up my assertion by saying it's simple statistics and that these idiots should try reading a book sometime. Multiple players at the table berated me said I was a fool. Best table image I've ever had.

As for other options, pretending to be drunk doesn't usually work unless you back it up with manical plays. Simply chatting drunk usually doesn't do it. The best way to trap ops is mocking them. The easiest marks are people with pictures of kids in them. If it's their son, tell them what a pretty daughter they have and vice versa. If it's a daughter I also like to ask if it's their wife, and what a hotty she is. When they say no, that's my daughter, you know what to do...

Only other table talk I can think of that has tilted an opponent is trashing their sports teams. Philly fans are great for this.

I raise a couple limpes from the SB.
BB says "you raise any two cards?"
I say "yes, usually I have to have two"

Table chat seemed to work in this situation... I pick up a monster and I gripe about a bad beat I had on the last hand in a medium sized pot... in order to give the impression i'm on tilt.

He reraises me PF and I insta push all in.. he calls and .. well I got smoked...

I like to point out (on Crypto) that people can turn off an individuals chat. I do this when someone is being an obvious cock in the hope that it will tilt them/get them to play back at me. It helps that the vast majority of people who get rude and aggressive are bad poker players.

When you block someone's chat is there any way for them to know? I thought it just made it so that messages they type don't appear in your chat window, right?

I let them know by telling them before I do it, and recommending everyone else does it too
