    Default Taking A Break

Not sure what the fuck has happened to me but I have managed to lose 8BI over the last 3 days. Started off losing KK vs A8o then KK Vs AKo and it went rapidly downhill from there.

Think a nice long break from poker will do me good.

It's called negative variance. If you're consistently getting it in bad and losing, you're doing it wrong. If you're getting it in good and losing, you're doing it right. You can't control variance, don't let it bother you.

Having said that, if it is bothering you, taking a break is a good thing to do.

I know what you're trying to say, but this is incorrect. If you are playing well, you should be getting it in behind sometimes (or on a regular basis depending on what you play).

Take the break you need, but you have the most potential of anyone active in the BC right now (In my opinion, based on hands posted and the level of discussion you induce), so don't get too down.

Seriously. If I had your humility, then I'd be crushing the micros and moving up and out. Keep posting hands and getting feedback.

Some day, when you're playing mid to high stakes, you'll look back and think, "I can't believe an 8 BI downswing used to do that to me. What I wouldn't give to have ONLY 8 BI downswings now."

Wow. That is an amazingly astute post. I probably let myself tilt too much over my failure to appreciate this.

Well yeah I get we can call an all in shove on flop with 5:1 on our money with a flush draw, but I consider getting that in good.

    Breaks are good...

...but, don't let an 8 buy swing get to you too much. I promise you there are way better players than either of us that have had swings twice that. This is why bankroll management exists. You have to have enough buy ins to not go broke every time you downswing.

Also don't forget that you're still learning (we all are really) and a good portion of that "downswing" has more to do with you sucking at poker than you losing KK to Ax. Admit that and you'll be well on your way to a decent, longterm overall winrate.

If you're pissed about an 8 buyin swing then get the fuck out of poker. That's an insult.

Send me your database if you want.

Sorry, it's the biggest downswing I have had in such a short time, not really used to it.

Really appreciate all the comments people have made, I assumed 8BI was a large portion of money to lose, obviously I was wrong.

Edited this post as it was a question about how to get the picture on. Done it now though.

I also don't think that PT3 is very good for stats, has no cbet% at all.

Oh yeah, I forgot you play 6max. Dude, 6max has way more brutal variance than FR. If you can't handle the swings then switch to FR and see how that goes.

When you consider the magnitude of a loss, you're best served to consider it in the context of how much you've played and how much money you've put into play.

For instance, let's say you've played 10 sessions all 1 table vs the same 10 sessions 6-tabling. In the first case, you put 10 buyins into play and lost 8. In the second, it's 50 and 8. The former is clearly a worse downswing although the amounts are the same.

That said, do take a break if it'll let you get back on an even keel. But you might want to consider that it's kind of a bandaid solution. It's better - although harder - to learn how to steam less often and/or severely.

It's unfortunate to have a bad day at the tables but at the same time it does happen. Can't have a good day every day even thou it would be nice.Follow your gut and if a break is what is needed then do so.Shit happens and you have to go with the flow.Put your life on track and go with the punches, don't think it will get any better any time soon.

Maybe try a different game like PLO for a while, see how that goes...
