Default Too dependant on good cards

I am a very new player.
Somedays I win a few single table toerney's (like in the top three 3 out of 5), and the next day, I am not even close to winning a single one. Now I am a very tight player ( I only play hands in group 0-3, http://www.flopturnriver.com/chart_starting_hands.html)
Now my question is should I loosen up in late positions?

in SnG's you need to loosen up as more players are knocked out, when the game becomes shorter handed, and when the blinds become larger in proportion to everyones stack. Check the SnG forum for more on that

    Hi, Doesi!

Since I have been playing sit&go's quite succesful lately I feel entitled to answer to your question. Of course my answer depends also on the level you are playing (I play 6 and 11$ one table full handed) and if you are playing short or full handed.

Generally position is very important, so yes, you should loosen your standards in a better position. In an unraised pot in late position i would limp middle suited connctors, Axs and low pp's, especially with many poeple in the pot. Make sure to raise enough preflop (10 10+, AQ+ from early position and like 99+ and AT in late position). When I say raise, I don't mean minraise, because you want to have one or at most two callers and take the pot down after the flop. C-bet if you don't hit if the board texture is unscary and only one or two opponents are in the pot with you. When you are down to fewer poeple (like 4 or 5) you will have to loosen your raising standards a lot, since the blinds are high and you are looking to steal at least one blind per orbit to break even with your chips. Call raises only with better hands though. Don't be afraid to push good hands in that situation. Also if you are low stacked, you will have to push all in in order to earn the blinds. If you get called, well, you need to double up anyway to stand a chance, AA or KK ain't always coming in that situation. Don't wait for a premium hand while getting eaten up by the blinds.

So generally: As a bigsstack, push the smallstacks around and steal their blinds. As a lowstack, push all in with all pp's and Aces (kicker depending on how desperate you are) and hope to steal the blinds, and, if called, have a decent chance of surviving.

    I hope this helps

Doesie, i feel exactly the same as you sometimes.
I can for sure say that ive become a much better SNG player now then when i started last year, but im still struggling to make it profitable.

I have a great day playing SNGs and win alot. I feel good about my game, knowing i probably am on the right way. Im patient, dont take unneccecary risks, and dammit, i place in the money in most of them!

The next day, i do the exact same thing (this might not be true though as it might very well be that im lowering my guard without knowing it. Still trying to figure it out) but cant even get in the money.

So (allready on tilt, not knowing it) i start modifying my game trying to find the same way to play as i did the day before. This, of course, ends in total disaster before i understand that im on tilt.

    Ho Doesie

    Welcome to FTR

This is poker, it has a variance element, you can play the exact same game and win or lose, there is no formula that always wins.
There are however, a lot of things that make successful tournament players.
Of course they cannot be summerized in one post.
Start by reading the stickies in the SNG forum.
    Read HoH
Read posts in the Sng forum

Everything already said in this thread is true, you need to loosen up as the table get shorter, you need to understand position well, as well as having good reads on opponents, understand stack size to blind ratio, tournament structure etc..
