TRYIN TO PROFIT MORE FROM AGGRESSION...QUESTION

Ok so im on the button with TT, with one limper before me I limp as well. Small blind folds and Big blind checks. Flop comes As 8s 8d. Both players check and I bet half the pot. Figuring if one of them had a spade they would bet due to the board having two spades. Was this semi-bluff wrong?

Now the player in the blind went all in and I quickly folded. but lets suppose he just called. What do I do next if a card besides a spade falls? Do I check it out now believing he has a ace or eight. Or if it is a no help card say a 2h. And he checks do I bet at him again?

I guess basically what im askin is it ok to semi-bluff a calling station (and or) a passive player when im in late position?

As a general rule, when you've got a decent hand and you're trying to end the thing, you want to bet out until you get raised. The CR indicates quite clearly that he has an ace, or an 8, or pp > T. So that's an easy fold.

Your bet, I think, might have been too small. It gives him tolerable odds for the spade draw -- as a result, you can't put him on an A like you could with a Big Ole Fat Bet (>pot). So you are stuck having to bet big on the turn if it's not a spade, and see if he still feels good.

If turn is >T and not a spade, you could conceivably bet smaller to find out where you're at. A raise there would indicate the A or a pair of whatever's on the turn.

If you had a read that suggested your opponent held pp's > 10 the correct play was to fold not limp. When you limped in rather than putting down a bet pre-flop (assuming this meant you didn't think your opponent had pp's >10), you allowed your opponent to see the flop for free. Depending on the player and your reads of them, this may have been a good opportunity to try and steal the BB.

In a loose NL cash game it's a limp from UTG and a raise from the button, IMHO...
