The thing new players have to realize is, the average pot in hold'em is won with a single pair . If you played 30,000 hands, probably 1/2 of them were won with a pair . I don 't have any data to back this up, but it's a pretty damn good guess.
just seems to me my kings always get outdrawn by Ax. also, you are right that perhaps 1/2 of hands are won with just a pair....but also keep in mind all the hands that players may go/call all in with AA, AK, AQ, AJ, etc. have good shots at outdrawing KK (i find some "gambling" players tend to call all in with Ace rag just hoping to breaking somebody w/ KK or QQ). with this in mind, i'm sure the statitics are not so clear cut as you stated before.

perhaps its because of the limits. i play in $10 SnGs where people overvalue Ax, rarely respect raises, etc etc.

just food for thought from a new player's perspective
