    Default When ur flops become dry in Rings. {NO CONTENT}

Do you consider folding hands in good position just because ur running bad? AK AQ 77 66 , if not raise then limp.

Does anyone think this would be a good idea?
  2. #2
No and it's because cards don't know you're running cold so they don't keep you from running good or bad it's just a part of variance eventually you'll run insanely hot.
  3. #3
Well when u run hot lets hope ur profit exceeds when u were extremly dry and burning up chips with middle pocket pairs 1010 jj and AK AQ preflop.

gotti, the previous hands does not affect the next one. (unless you are tilting, in which case you just shouldn't play).

I hope that's not a personal attack at me because I am very experienced and don't "burn up chips" when I don't catch cards. The only time I play bad is when I'm tired.

I play my normal game and more importantly, I believe what I preach and that is the cards have no memory of what's going on and it's all random and will even out eventually. 9 tabling doesn't hurt either so you don't get bored.

You should really c-bet more often and try to make more out of your hands when you flop big instead of slowplaying and minraising to offset when you don't win the pot. Mistakes aren't only made in pots you lose, you know.

    No.

As far as the cards go, each hand is independant of the next.

The only time I would change up my play would be if id been having to cbet/fold alot of flops which would seriously degrade my image. I might then begin to limp more speculative hands that I would usually raise e.g. hands like 88. Im not limping these because im running cold and dont expect to hit. Im limping them because i dont think I have much fold equity when i miss.

Assuming you have a winning game normally deviating from it just because you have a bad run is a recipe for disaster.

For example you decide to limp JJ instead of raising from MP, you find yourself in a multiwaypot 5 handed, flop is 972 rainbow, u bet the pot and the sb goes AI, you call and he flipps over 92, had u raised preflop he would fold this hand.

If you have a bad run and it affects your game, quit for the day, no shame in it

If the cards are running bad to the point your thinking of changing your game to accomodate it, it's time to take a break. Playing extra cautiously due to previous bad cards is just another form of tilt.

This is a big pet peeve of mine.

You are not running bad. You may have ran bad, but that has no impact on your next few hands. You are not in a downswing in the sense that the next time you play you are still in that downswing. You may have dropped 15 buyins over the last 20k hands, but that doesnt mean you are in a downswing. Thinking like this is really going to hurt your development as a poker player.

ripjohngotti, do you actually listen and consider the replies people make? it seems like a lot of the same issues come up in your threads yet you dont seem to be getting it and continue to just create new threads. slow down. stop creating new threads. start reading more and try to absorb what's already been said.

For the love of all that is good, ripjohn!

Stop posting about the same basic principles that so many have been telling you in so many different threads.

We only have so much patience, man. I don't believe you mean to annoy people, but have you any idea how many complaints I've received about your repetitive, rudimentary questions and hand histories about the same thing over and over and over again?

I don't mean to be confrontational. I'm trying to be as polite as possible. But enough is enough.

No I dont post to piss off everyone there is just a line that i keep missing in poker, sometimes Ill make the bad move at the right time or ill make the right move against a donk getting sucked out.

Or I dont know which style works best during ring play because I cant judge the table because they all look stupid calling down with KJ or 55 on a very scarey board.
Ill I want to do as of late is flip a profit then Ill come on here and the advice is great though some do contradict each other and make it bit confusing where either line is a gamble.

Maybe i just need to look back at my hand , its strength and wonder why im in all together and worry about POT CONTROL it seems when I enter ring I play completely different then Solid/ Tag of Sngs and play wreckless not even thinking about prinicples just playing my position and if my stack is big ill make moves ? But once i get played back at a few hands loosing -10, maybe i should go back to TAg style and just work off the board.

If i had some sort of set princile I could label a guy but its so hard when I see them making these horrific moves in ring. I know if you cant spot the fish you are the fish but I see guys all over the place in 1-1 .50 .50 playing good for about 30 minutes running into some dry spell with AQ AK or maybe QQ and bluffing off their entire stack it makes me think noone is really that good at all at these levels but yet im still having a rough time trying to come over this hump.

I know it all seems so easy, oh play position, play opposite of the table, play tag, but once your in that room its completely different situation. Ive seen players bet with midpair or even check with midpair.

I guess the style that works for me is TAG, then if I see openings try to steal a few small pots then when they noticfe im doing this go back into my TAG style

Poker is full of contradictions. Because it's extremely situational. Every minute detail of every situation affects how to play your hand perfectly. It takes a very long time of dedication and focus to learn to navigate through the apparent contradictions.

You've been a member here since January of 2005. And yet, you're still stuck on some very basic concepts. You really should try reading more and posting less. I honestly don't mean that as an insult. But it seems that you haven't taken the time to truly focus on the wealth of advice (directly to you and indirectly in other topics) available here.

Posting multiple hand histories regarding the same essentials and posting the same basic questions and getting the same basic answers isn't going to improve your game. It's getting you nowhere.

You need to stop dwelling on the poor plays of your opponents. Focus on yourself and your attitude of the game.

With an improved attitude, you'll come to appreciate the bad plays of the others.

If you haven't already, read every single topic listed in the Beginners Digest sticky of this forum.

In particular, "You Cannot Make Someone Fold" is one you need to read a dozen times, print out, fold into a small, bite-size piece and swallow. And when you excrete it, unfold it, frame it and put it up on the wall next to your computer monitor.

Rip, I think your main problem is that you are WAY over thinking and analyzing your game. K.I.S.S is what you want to do right now. That is keep it simple stupid (not that you're stupid, just that the last "S" means stupid). The opponents that you are playing against can't play past their cards, so big plays on them will traditionally not work.

Ok how about this hand I have AK on a KJ9 flop I raise preflop and bet the flop big and get minraised I fold because the hand that beat me are: QT KK JJ 99 KJ J9 K9 so many hands that beat me and Im always running bad so thoughts?

I folded JJ preflop with 5 people calling in front of me because JJ never wins Im so unlucky with those cards but I will play bad cards against them because thats what people play against my good cards and win with.

    Maximize profits, minimize loss.

If you're in a downswing for a day, there will be a time when you start catching cards again. It depends on how you ride the tide. You can also try taking time off to "wait out" the downswing. There was an article here on FTR that I can't find right now, but it basically said that if you have a proven strategy don't change it. The author related it to watching the stock market on a daily basis... most people are better off not watching their stocks for long term investment. This is because they see the stocks fluctuate on a daily basis and they pull out early. If they stuck in for the long haul they would have turned a profit.

The same idea can be applied to poker, if you have a proven strategy stick to it. If you change your strategy right now you might be making compromises in your game that you will later regret.
