Yeah it is definitely way faster. 8-tabling used to be quite laggy on my computer, but now I could probably 20-table with minimal lag!

What’s the number one strategy you always utilise during your sessions? ABC poker for example?
The number one strategy I always utilise during my sessions is definitely adjustments. I think that’s my big strength in Poker and what I do better than most. I think a lot of people wait too long until they have adjust because they don’t really understand Bayesian probability. Basically, no matter what simple size you have, you can still make adjustments according to what you see, as long as any time you acquire new information, you keep adjusting. For example, I played a hand a few months ago where I had 76s HU, villain raised on the BTN, I flatted in the BB. The flop came down Q86 I c/c’d, turn was a T I checked, he checked behind, river was a 2 and I c/c’d, he had AT. At first I didn’t think much of it, but then I realized the extent of the adjustments I can make from it. I can infer his turn betting range is extremely polarized, as his value range is Qx+, therefore if he’s betting it at a high frequency he’ll be bluffing a lot, and if he’s betting it at a low frequency he will be value betting a lot. Therefore, I can make the adjustment to never raise his turn bet(because raising against a polarized range is mostly pointless; all better calls, all worse folds) and instead, raise his bet/check/bet line a lot, as it will include mostly weak 2nd pair hands he checked behind on the turn. Furthermore, if he’s betting turns polarized at a low frequency, I can c/c flops wider and expect to get to SD more often. This is just one example of the amount of information you can get from one hand.

I sorta do this intuitively, but having a clear strategy in mind and adjusting accordingly is certainly better. In the example above, I usually can tell he has Tx, and assume they call my river c/r because of lol image so I just c/f usually. Instead, I should widen my value c/r range to JJ+, or use c/r overbet to actually put him to a tough decision with his bluffcatcher. And keep readjusting as we go.

back from NYC, i love that city. I like that it's so diverse in every way possible. I love that it has so much character. I don't looove the people, but I appreciate the "fuck you" attitude, the honking, and how they just don't give a shit. I also love the nightlife, prob even better than Montreal since you have more to choose from. One night after bar hopping, some tourists were hailing a cab, cab stops, one chick just runs and cuts them off, gets in the cab, and as they are yelling at her, she opens her window and shouts "Welcome to NY motherfuckers!!!". That made my night.

So I got back and don't feel like playing too much. BR kinda decimated to 15k ish after withdrawals and downswing. I decided I'll use an aggro BR strategy from now on. 15 BI for each level, drop down if I lose 4 buyins. I just played my 1st sesh and dropped exactly 4 buyins at 5/10, so 3/6 next sesh it looks like. At least it will bring some excitement and hopefully prevent me to go busto.

I just read this operation from the beginning, and got inspired. What can I say, it is a contest-winning blog after all. :P

So yah I think the key to winning in today's poker environment is to play in softer games. Truth is, the games were a bit softer back then, or at least, there were less competent regs fighting for the fish. Now it's harder to get into these softer games because bumhunters are just always quicker to get these seats usually, since they only have like 2 tables up all day. I also had a chat with an old crypto reg a few weeks ago. He's still winning hundreds of thousands. He told me he just plays great tables, even if it means 2 tabling for a while. He also has great work ethic, logging in about 40hrs a week and taking weekends off. I've never been battling so hard, to try and figure out a way to really succeed, and that's encouraging i think.

Anyway, just put in a sesh and recouped some of the losses of earlier. Having a low BR is a fun challenge, and the first pages of this thread reminded me it's not so bad after all.

..that and a lot more, but obv biggest part is ranges and hand reading, they'll have a hard time calling if our ranges crushes theirs.

Slowly getting back on the grind, trying to rebuild my roll after cashing out a bunch and also downswinging last month. Alas, I ran into too many AA today! AK, AQ, KK all ran into AA in pretty sweet spots, but also deep. And AA ran into 55 preflop

I did some filters this morning and realized that when I 3b and see a flop (excluding QQ+,AK), I lose a bunch of money. I'm also getting 4b a ton lately and every time I ship it in they have it. Obviously some of this might be due to variance but I'm gonna try to lay low a bit on the 3b, maybe 6-7% for the next little while and see what gives. I'm playing pretty well tbh, so just wishing for some pre-WSOP run good this month. I promise I'll have a decent work ethic! BR $14.6k.

Nonpoker stuff: Knee is feeling pretty good 6months after surgery. I started to jog last week and it's going well, and I'll try to ramp up the exercises soon to get ready for some hockey/tennis/golf for early August. Can't wait!

Grif - I checked my positional stats for the past 100k hands and it looks like I'm losing a ton from the blinds, and if I remember correctly you had the same issue? We should do something about that.

I do think 3betting a lot vs steals is definitely correct, but it could be that I'm 5b shoving incorrect hands/frequencies, or leaking postflop massively in these situations. This is #1 on my list of stuff to improve, not close. --> Board textures after 3betting oop, vs opponent tendencies and ranges.

It's a start.

Things I've been doing well these past 100k hands:

UTG opening 4x and about 18% in 5max --> big winner from utg.

Somehow I'm cbetting about 10% less from utg and I am from BTN, doesn't make much sense. So a potential leak is cbetting too much from BTN (even tho its only 65%)

I'm also opening 18% from UTG, but my cbet% from there is almost identical to my cbet from the BTN which is 67%.

Yah blind play is a big leak.

I think I'm potentially NOT 3betting enough and just folding too many hands. It also seems as though I lose a very high % of the time I 3bet and get called - I think a big part of it is bad variance but even still.

I don' think you can view your cbet % on button vs utg as a leak. Its probably not bad to be cbetting more IP than you would OOP. Though I'm pretty sure my cbet is higher from UTG than button, just due to stronger ranges.

Yeah it makes more sense. I open about 60% on BTN too!

Obviously the positional results don't mean much since it's only 100k hands, but logically I should cbet more when my range is strongest (UTG), and cbet less when my range is weakest (BTN)

Yeah I didn't think about the IP vs OOP thing, but it's definitely the main reason I'm cbetting less UTG now that I think of it. Another thing to consider is I 4x it from utg and 2x from btn, so ranges that call me will be way stronger in the first scenario and way weaker in the second, which will affect cbet success.

So basically it's prob not a leak if we do it on the correct board textures and opponent specific.

On to the next one.

I played the GSOP Grand Final this week in Punta Cana and min cashed!!! First live cash in like 25+ live tourneys. WOOT WOOOT! Also the Hard Rock resort there was really awesome, and brought an unusual Vegas feel to a Caribbean adventure.

The month of May might be make or break poker wise. I've got some trips planned for this summer, so if I can't get motivated for this month, I don't know if it'll ever happen. #slowdeath

If I do get motivated, who knows I might resuscitate the blog to keep me focused!

mega hours in already this month and more forum posting, gotta be a good sign!

Grinding is pretty easy once u get in a rhythm! I've been playing 6+hrs everyday this week, and it didn't even feel like a chore. Playing a decent amount like this everyday is a huuuge difference in terms of picking right spots and getting a feel for flow, timing, and all those little things that make some players have an edge. Then again I could be fooled by randomness, but I'm feeling good about it so far.

Still running pretty meh, down about 45BI under EV again this yr. The good part is I didn't feel tilted at all this week, even if I was down like 8k yest. I'm gonna try posting some hands tonight or tmr, there's quite a few spots I wasn't sure about.

Small update since I decided to refocus on grinding. More of the same runbad, but not too bad since it's only 11 buyins or so. I slacked off quite a bit last week so I'm gonna try and put in some hours this week, gonna need to run hot to not have to redeposit or move down, BR is shrinkinggg fast






And I'll leave you with one of the interesting hands I played this month. Villain seems like a new reg so no dynamic between us. Stats wise he's really within the norm, 24/21 3b of 7 IP type. I thought his hand looks alot like AQ/AK/78/89 or hearts? SB is a fish. What do you think?

Here's one of the reasons my red line is positive this month :P Put people on 6x and not boats, take sick line, watch them fold. UTG+1 is fish, CO is reg on the tighter side. I can safely exclude A9/A6/66/99 from his range because of flop check. On the other hand I don't rep much either, maybe just 69, A6, 66, J6s, maybe 99, but the fact that fish is in the pot here makes my bluff work 95% vs the reg. Only problem is if fish calls with Jx or Ax :P

Yeah I did mention aggro whale - very aggro. I thought the chance he has a better hand is like 5%, mostly went for the c/r because of all the missed draws. I also thought he'd bet Qx/2x on turn more often than he bets Tx/draws. If he bet turn over half pot I would have just called/called, and if he bet turn small again I woulda c/r, c/r :P

I've been grinding a bit from time to time. Been watching some R.I.O. vids and kinda wanna put in some decent volume next few weeks and make some money. Games are pretty tough compared 2-3 yrs ago, but a boss can still crush. Short-term study goals --> CREV analysis, GTO concepts, overbets.

I believe I will post results to really shame myself in public, as I don't even know if I'm a winning player anymore :P Goal is to play like 2hrs a day 200nl-1000nl.

I don't know if I would say betting $480 on river here is standard at all!

I think betting half as much ($240ish), will get called more than 2x as often as this 480 bet imo. Feel like all Jx and some 9x will have a hard time folding a $230ish bet. Most hands can prob find a fold to this sizing, except AJ which villain clearly perceives as the top of his range here.

yea, he tanked and couldn't justify folding top of his range basically. Yeah looking at it again, there are quite a few straights combos, J9s, A5s, sets, that he loses to, so I'm not sure its that great of an overbet with KK. But if the turn is a 3c instead of a 7c I think overbets are great here.

Going well so far, hopefully it keeps up. Playing my A- game so far and haven't had a reason to tilt yet so all good

Still crushing, sustainable imo. I'm pot controlling a lot more in certain spots now, trying to get to showdowns and use my hand reading skills instead of building pots unnecessarily. A bit behind on the hours, hopefully I can catch up next few days. Still need to buy CREV and work with that!
