    Default Bode's still treading...

Its time to start another op thread. After getting my BR as high as $4k playing $100nl and as low as $1400, i let my last op thread die. For the past few months i have been playing mostly $50nl, with my BR hovering anywhere from $1400 to $1800. I played donkaments for the month of june because i was pissed at ring, but that ended down ~$300ish. Basically, for the last 3 months ive lost playing poker, and broke even w/ bonuses and the pathetic amount of rakeback 7k hands/month gets you.

After reviewing my game and reading as much about poker as i could for about a week, i refocused myself and started playing seriously again on July 31st. With my BR at $1450, i moved most of my BR to Stars and started grinding hands. Ive played 18k hands in the past 2 weeks and worked my BR up to $2k again running ~3 PTBB/100. Its been swingy as hell, but i feel like im playing well again and am ready to take another shot at $100nl.

Im someone that thinks 20 BI's is plenty for SSNLHE, so im going to jump right in, but i will drop back down to 50nl at $1800. Ill post the last 2 weeks stats in another post and maybe someone can point out some leaks im not catching still.

    wish me luck.

i feel like 3 PTBB/100 is about what im good for. At this point atleast, im not someone who's going to run 5-7 PTBB/100 over large samples.

My position stats are much better than they used to be. I dont really know why im winnig as much from MP as i am OTB. Maybe its just a small sample.

As far as big winners/losers go, i think they are pretty normal. So far i dont have the typ KJo or AJo type hands that so many people have as losers in their DB's. Again this may just be a small sample for that.

Anything else that stands out? Any help is appreciated.

put in a 200 hand session over lunch 4 tabling. I think I won about $80 or so. I posted the only interesting hand, which was a bluff w/ AK, in the SH forum.

i plan on putting in around 2k hands tonight.

Have you transferred money out from your BR? I remember you were taking shots at $200nl and now back to $50nl?

i never transferred any money out, and i never took shots at 200nl. I ran my BR from basically $1k to $4k in the span of 3 weeks, and then proceeded to drop $2k over 15k hands. Ive been back at $50nl and donkaments for 2 months now.

Sorry for the confusion dude. GL taking shots at $100nl again. FWIW my winrate at $100nl is double what it used to be at $50nl. Figure that. I can't see much of a difference in skills and its all down to good bankroll management.

well, my first full session at 100nl went about as bad as it could go. Dropped 3.5 buyins over the course of 1000 hands due to fairly standard swings/not flipping well w/ short stacks. And then the last hand i tilt 4-bet pushed AQo over a $23 squeezish 3-bet and lost to AK. Im so fucking pissed at myself. I gave myself 4 buyins and i hovered around that -3.5 BI mark for a while and told myself i would quit after dropping 4 BI's. Well, i did technically, but it ended up more around the -5 BI mark.

so after loosing $500+ bones, i obviously sit back down at 2 100nl tables like the true donk/tilt monkey i am to win some back.

rob1013 had made this same play 3 hands earlier w/ AQ on a Q high flop, i had also seen him raise big w/ a flush draw.

rakoczy is just a huge donk.

i hate this call in every way, but i think im crushing robs range and i dont really care about rak.

Look, perhaps we should just save time and you and I can co-author a thread where we write "$100NL is hard, oh hang on, maybe, erm, nearly a shot at $200NL awww crap $50NL here I come".

I mean it seems like exactly the same stuff. Except when I took July off to play donkaments I lost $400... waaah.

I too, after three good days, have begun to long for $100NL. But I wisely removed $1k from my roll so I only had $1100. It'll take me a bit longer now before I'm rolled for $100NL.

Good luck, will be interested to see how you get on

played 1800 hands tonight. -$55 over 200 hands at 1oonl and +$180 over 1600 hands at 50nl. Ive absolutely been killing 50nl the last 6-7k hands. BR is back over $1800. My goal right now is to get back to play another 5k hands at 50nl then move to 100nl (again, lol). Id like to get back there so i can get platinum star for this month at Stars. Lol, ive never even gotten silverstar before this month.

anyway, id like some feedback on these hands if i could.

3rd hand at table. All villains are unknown. Push to isolate against the 2 shorties?

    hand 1, fold

hand 2, Not that I would do it in heat of battle, but fold. Does QQ, AT raise here?

Hand 3, does being a donk include bluff min-raising then 1/2 PSB on turn? I think he telegraphed his hand for you

    hand 1 fold

    hand 2- obv your beat

hand 3- WTF on your postflop play, if your gonna lead then you should shove over his raise, otherwise c/c flop. c/c turn as played as you are probably getting great odds so why turn your hand into a big bluffo

Possible leak in my game here but I get bluffed so much on the turn that unless opponent is a reg I respect I felt KK in hand 2.

I need to fix this evidently

first session tonight: -2 buyins over 1500 hands. Nothing special. ran QQ into AA on a low flop, lost LOTS of 60/40's and 70/30's w/ shortstacks, etc. Im going to run good next session.

another 1200 hands, -3 more buyins. I feel like I played fine, just wasnt catching hands. My AKs/o, AQs, KK, QQ, JJ, TT, were all fairly big losers tonight and the only reason i wasnt down 10 buyins was due to sc's and AA.

    back to the grind tommorow.

played 3k hands today for +$300. Nothing really interesting, just alot of standard grinding. I did sit for about 2 hours to the right of a really terrible deepstack that would call too many 3-bets and fold too many flops, so that was fun. Im too tired to do a session review tonight, so maybe ill post some hands tommorow.

BR is ~$1850, so hopefully i can take some more 100nl shots this week again.

    1k hands @ 50nl: +83
    1k hands @ 100nl: +287

BR was at 1925 after my first session of the day so i decided to jump back into the 100nl games and set a stop loss of 2 BI's. I wanst in the red for even one hand.

Heres a few hands i want opinions on, all of them are 100nl.

    hand 1:
villain is 17.6/13.4/4.5 over 500 hands. No reads(lol), i think most of the hands i have on him are from 50nl. I was planning on just putting shorty AI but....

    UTG ($65.25)
    MP ($98)
    Hero ($117.30)
    Button ($41)
    SB ($33.35)

Preflop: Hero is CO with , .
2 folds, Hero raises to $4, Button raises to $14, 1 fold, BB raises to $24, Hero ???

    warning: bad beats ahead.

played a short 350 hand session at lunch today and dropped $115. Standard stuff. I lost a full buyin in a 3-bet pot w/ AK vs 88 on an A8x board. I usually play AK TPTK in a 3-bet pot like its the nuts. whatever.

come home and sit down for a session. At this point my BR is at $2150, and i tell myself ill continue w/ 100nl until my BR gets below 1750, and to just ride out any neg. variance. I start out down 1/2 buyin or so, and this hand happens.

Then, in the course of no time, these 2 gems come along:

my short term goal for right now is to play another 10k hands this month at 50nl, and running 5ptbb/100 will get me back to 100nl by sept. 1st. 10k hands will also get me platinumstar on stars which is a must after getting this close.

2k hands ... -$3. I played well and slowly made my way up to +3 buyins at about the 1800 hand mark, then ran into 2 more sets w/ AK on A high flops. The very last hand i played i got AI w/ KK vs Ah8h on a QhTh7c board and of course i get sucked out on... with the backdoor straight.

    grrrrrr.

this hand was funny though. Villain had $0.95 behind when i raised the river. Villain is a HUGE donk btw.

put in 1600 hands tonight and made just under 1 buyin. nothing too special, was up 3 buyins at one point and lost some gambooool hands w/ shorties, i.e. AKs < A8o for 70bbs AIPF. Im going to keep grinding 50nl for the rest of the month and see what happens. As of right now im running 3.5ptbb/100 over 30k hands @ 50nl for $1k profit, and have dropped $900 in 5k hands at 100nl. GG august.

im going to start posting more hands, but i dont know if people are really reading this or not. Maybe ill make separate theads for hands.

1100 hands tonight for +1 buyin. I still need to put in 4-5k hands by the end of august to get to platinumstar, and its looking like it will be close. I have a zoning hearing to go to after work tommorow and some friends from chicago are coming in town friday night, so im going to have to put in a huge session thursday night.

    anyways, some hands from tonight.

easy fold or gambool? 3-bettor is 8/4 over 25 hands, pusherman is 70/11 over the same.

I might bet slightly more on all streets in that 44 hand. I prolly b/c that river cuz imma station.

B/f'ing seems bad now b/c of stack sizes and the price you would be laid.

you're right. After posting the 44 hand i read back over it and i would have been getting too good a price to fold had he pushed. I just got that sick feeling from his timing that he hit

2k hands so far today. I had to clear like 800 VPP's before tommorow night, and im not going to be able to play tommorow, so i played 4 tables of 50nl and 4 of 100nl, settinig a stop loss on the 100nl tables at 1 buyin. Well, i ran pretty hot at 100nl and ended up 1.25 buyins but down 2 buyins at 50nl. I really wish that one time when i take a shot i could run like prefontain (sp?), but it has yet to happen. Although i played well and ended up a buyin, these 3 hands killed my morale. My BR is still only at $1650-1700, and these hands would have put me well over 2k again. :sigh: what could have been.

i split a quick morning session 1/2 100nl and 1/2 50nl and made $175. BR is now at $1950 so ill play 100nl and set a BR stop loss at $1800. Hopefully i dont get all over-aggro again and blow through a bunch of buyins.

    wish me luck.

ugh... -2.5 buyins over 500 hands at lunch. I had one set over set for 130bbs that was standard, and i bluffed off a full buyin. I had KTo and i raised a QJx 2 spade flop bet. 3rd spade comes on the turn, i bet 2/3 pot, and push a blank river for 4/5 pot and get called by AQ w/ no spade. I think it was a good spot to bluff, and the opp seemed decent enough that he would give me credit, but whatevs. Everytime i move up to 100nl i seem to bluff way too much, so i just need to play my cards and not worry about getting fancy.

heres the bluff i was talking about. The action is a bit different than i thougth. i thought i raised the flop, and the river was a full PSB. After looking at this again i really dont like it, and i think if i bet around $45-50 on the river i get more folds.

i decided to play some donkaments tonight for a change of pace. im playing:

$5 r+a, $22 deepstack, $10 $20k, $11 1r+1a, $3 r+a, and a few others depending on how these go. Im sitting w/ a $14k stack after the rebuy period in the $5 r+a and a decent stack in the $22 which has an incredibly soft field that has no concept of deep stack poker. Ill try to update later tonight.

20k stack after break in the 3r+a and i accidentally forgot to add on at break, ldo. i still have a good stack in the 22 deepstack getting somewhat close to the bubble.

avg stack is like 14k at this point. Call? the min-raise is gross, but i honestly think he has nothing here. oh, and ive been super aggro since the rebuy hour.

at the final table of a $22 180 man sitting second in chips w/ 7 left. come rail if anyone sees this.

im also sitting about the middle of the pack in the $22 deepstack w/ 31 left. This tourney is fucking rediculous w/ 1/2 hour levels. Its been going for almost 7 hours, there were only 461 entrants and there are still 31 left. Def. never playing it again.

at like 3am this morning i was still playing the $22 deepstack and w/ 13 left i decided i was going to double up or go to sleep so i ran a bluff w/ 66 on a K83 board and got instacalled by AA. only $101 cash for 8 hours work so that sucks but i was so tired and had to be at work by 8. Overall it was a good night of donkaments, cashing in 4/9 for $300ish profit because 2 cashes were first tier pay.

played a quick 500 hand session tonight for +$85.

whats standard in spots like this. This is the first hand at this table and i have no history w/ villain. I dont really know if i like 4-betting here vs an unknown. Im getting 10:1 implied odds on a call, but i dont like playing for set value when i have to get his whole stack like always.

In response to your last post, i would fold preflop. Villain's 3bet is very large, and without reads i would give him credit for having a strong hand (J-J+.A-K).

    Nice work in the donkaments

+$75 over a short 450 hand session today. i should have booked around $250 if i didnt play 2 hands really bad so its a bit disapointing. Im gone all weekend so i wont be able to play any. I should be able to get in plenty of hands next week, and i need to if im going to make it to 25k hands this month.

    Bode,

Just a suggestion. Wouldn't you be better off reaching something like $2.5k or $3k playing 50NL (as your very much killing it) and then just play 100NL until you get down to $2k or something? I don't think switching back and forth to/from 50NL to/from 100NL is helping you.

i've thought about this, but honestly it would be the same in the long run. If i get to 2.5k and drop 700, whats the difference in what im doing now? And it isnt a confidence issue. I KNOW i can beat 100nl, i just need to stop making mental mistakes. Also, im the opposite of a BR nit, i will jump right into the next level w/ 20 buyins and see where it takes me.

1100 hands for +$150 tonight. Very swingy session. I played good at the beginning and end, but not so good in the middle. This seems to be a reoccuring theme that i need to work on. Other than that it was a solid session, but i would like to run the cards twice on this hand:

Villain 3-bets fairly light, and plays 3-bet pots very aggro postflop. Preflop i call because we are 125bbs deep so i have decent implied odds. Flop call is marginal but ive been experimenting w/ floating some flops vs light 3-betters more.

Misread the HH (not the first time). I thought that hand was from 50NL.

As for the last hand, i don't like the float with two undercards and a gutshot. Especially since we are OOP, we should be playing these SC's like we were holding a small pocket pair (hit or miss).

If a light 3bettor has position on me i just tighten up my opening range, and 4bet them a little with low suited Aces. As a small side note once they adjust by calling your 4bets lighter, middle pairs become good to 4bet with also.

I generally don't like calling a 3bet with SC's or weak broadway hands (K-J/A-10) OOP.

    that last hand is ewww.
Don't call threebets OOP with sc's. You don't need to punish your opponent for threebetting light if:
    1. If we aren't opening a lot of hands.
    2. If he's not threebetting at least 15-20% of his hands here. (and even here, calling threebets oop just sucks. 88-99 is cool, 87s is not, i'd rather fourbet call a shove with 87s)
    Check out the new blog!!!

noted. is it ever correct to call w/ SC's in position?

yes def. if your oop is 3betting very light, then there is definetely some value in calling in pos, with the intention of shoving any gutshot+pair, flushdraw, basically any draw. It is important to balance this with your monsters as well.

-$175 in my first session yesterday and +$150 in my second. Super swingy day (which seems like every day for me) and i made one really bad call but other than that i played solid. I have only put in 7k hands so far this month, but i plan on doubling that over the weekend.

couple of fun hands from yesterday. The first one is the one that dug me out of my hole that was about 2.5 buyins shortly after starting my second session. I love sucking out. btw, flat calling the 3-bet isnt my standard move, but this table was getting way aggro post flop.

i think im going to finally subscribe to cardrunners tonight or tommorow. Is this a good idea w/ a ~$2300 BR. I think that is what i need to really get over the hump and start winner at a higher rate.
