Ya I'm still playing on some USD tables too, I just play on whatever is running at the time. I converted all my dollars to euro when the dollar strengthened recently so all I have is € now pretty much.

    Day 1, session 1

It seems all the 'gl' I have received thus far has not been enough as this operation has started out with a downswing. And not just a normal downswing with like 2 bad beats or whatever, one of those god-awful, frustrating, fell-like-punching-the-wall swings where it feels like every player at every table you sit at gets dealt the nuts every second hand while you are simultaneously dealt the second-nuts. I'm second guessing myself at every decision point now and every forced fold is like stabbing myself in the eyes. I feel like I haven't flopped a pair in 3 days.

I also got totally levelled by a ridiculously good new regular in this hand (actually I just played bad but it's amazingly frustrating to play against this guy). He's 32/27/aggro and 3bets 20% of his hands in 6max.

    Stacks:
    Hero ($416.05)
    SB ($1578.00)
    BB ($870.99)

    Pre-flop: ($6, 3 players) Hero is BTN
Hero raises to $11.50, SB folds, BB raises to $36.50, Hero calls $25

    Flop: ($75, 2 players)
BB bets $56.25, Hero calls $56.25

    Turn: ($187.50, 2 players)
    BB checks, Hero checks

    River: ($187.50, 2 players)
BB bets $187.50, Hero calls $187.50

I knew that he knew that my range was weak because I checked the turn, unfortunately he knew that I knew this and made a good bluffy looking valuebet on the river which I fell for hook, line and sinker.

    Final Pot: $562.50
    BB shows:

    BB wins $559.50 ( won +$279.25 )
    Hero lost -$280.25

I'll play more hands later once I have a tilt break. Will update then.

I honestly feel like making operations doomswitches you! All I know was that I was rolling along at the end of last year.. made my op beginning of this year.. then dooomswitch!

Hope the same doesn't go for you! Though, from this last hand and from your A high hero call post, it does seem like you make a lot of hero calls. Its something that I feel like I don't do that much of, but maybe I should start?

Do you feel like you're often right on your hero calls? Or do you think that even if you're wrong, it adds an added metagame aspect where they probably won't run any big bluffs on you and play more straightforward after?

Nah I find the opposite, I find they make me run better than usual. Well at least they help me focus on my results a bit and I find I'm more motivated to play hands and play well when the results will be broadcast to the general FTR public.

I think I've just been becoming really aware of situations where opponents have polarized ranges and these realizations have caused me to make hero calls a lot more than I would have lest say 8 months ago. It's probably something I do a little too much though and I haven't honed the skill well enough to be fully confident in it's ability. For example I often realise that a persons betting range in a certain spot looks really polarized but that doesn't guarantee that they are actually never bluffing in that spot. Instead of their range being 10% nuts, 5% medium and 85% air, a tighter players range could just be 100% nuts but I'll make the hero call anyway, ignoring the fact that I don't have all the reads I should have before considering making the call I want to make. I also often don't properly take into account all the combos of made hands the villain could be turning into a bluff, as you pointed out in the Ace high call-down thread. Overall though I'd say that I usually have good cause to make a light hero call when I do it and I think that I'm right more often than I'm wrong (that's hard to prove though obv).

Here's another (easier) A high call from the other day fwiw, I'm pretty sure that the river here should be 100% standard.

Yep you're dead right. I often forget to accurately take account of the ratio between the size of the villains value betting range and the size of his bluffing range in spots like this.

    Day one Session 2

Went way better than session 1. Hardly any really difficult, frustrating spots. Stacked a few fools and ran decent. Still didn't play my A++ game but it felt good anyway. Recouped my losses and a bit more on top.

Net profit so far is €331.

Also I had one of these today:

    and also one of these:

The Kalnapilis was too light and bubbly for my tastes, a little too sweet on the tongue and it had a weird tangy metallic after-taste which turned me off. Basically it was too Budweiser-ish. The Svyturio was better, a fuller more beerish taste with a lighter, orangey after-taste.

Will play more hands tomorrow and update. Going to watch episode 3 of season 3 of Heroes now and go to bed. I have to get up at 7.30am tomorrow to book 12 tickets to see Oasis and the Prodigy at Slane Castle (which is always the most awesome gig anywhere ever) in June. Btw I'm not very impressed with Heroes season 3 thus far.

Yo yo! Played an absolute shit ton of hands today, 3728 hands in total, 4-5 tabling. Played reasonably decent but there was a few too many suckouts which added to my winnings and a fair few hands I'm not happy about. In all and anyways I ended up winning approx. €3449 today so 'tis all good.

wtf I was like halfway down the list of operations, guess that means it's time to update. There's so many operations going on it's hard to get any headline space these days.

Anyways after a breakeven patch for the last day or 2 I got in the swing of things late today and managed to wrangle a profit. Was feeling pretty meh earlier because I've been pretty swingy lately so I contacted griffey and had a bitch at him and then when I started another session I just couldn't stop stacking people! Ended the day with like a €2.2k profit or something (it's difficult for me to keep track because HM can't handle multiple currencies).

    BR= €20,030

Here's a bonus A high call down in honour of Griffey my lucky charm:

Was on a little holiday with my gf for the last 3 days so I haven't played much poker since my last update. Managed to get a few hands in tonight when I got home though and I made about a grand at 2/4. Had a hilarious hand where I got AA all in preflop against another AA and I hit a flush to stack the guy. Pretty unlucky ha! Going clay pidgeon shooting tomorrow which should be fun, hopfully I'll get some hands in also and I'll make an update after that.

    peace out
  30. #30
So haven't updated this thing in a while. The shooting trip the other day was pretty cool. My Dad got my bro and I vouchers to go to this place last Christmas (lol) and we only got around to using them now. I'd never fired a gun before in my life so I was pretty excited. We got 20 shots each of a .22 rifle at these little targets that were 50m away. The rifle had a cool scope and a silencer so it was pretty sweet. Then we got 20 shots each of a shotgun and we tried to hit various clay pigeons that were fired up in the air. It's actually easier than you'd think and we got pretty much 8/10 for that. I'm sure they had the pigeon machine on some easy setting or whatever.

Poker has been frustrating lately, lots of break even play with a good measure of beats thrown in. Like today I was up €2500 before encountering a manic fish on a hot streak and donating a good chunk of my winnings back to him through no fault of my own. I feel like I'm playing decently and I'm searching for leaks like mad so hopefully things will turn around soon. I'm really trying hard to hold my composure too and concentrating on my mental state while playing.

Just to recap on the total operation, I've played 19,000 hands at this point and I'm up €5253. The theme so far has very much been run good at lower levels (2/4) and run bad at higher levels (3/6).

    BR: €21,782

Yo! Didn't play much over the last few days because my gf graduated from college so there was a lot of celebrating to be done. Finally got around to putting a session in today and it went decently well allowing me to get the BR back up to €22k. Feel like I played decently well also.

Am pretty tired now so I'm not making a long post. Will play a lot tomorrow hopefully.
  37. #37
Played a short session today but it went well and I made about €3k playing 5/10 and 3/6. There wasn't really many interesting pots or anything, just people stacking off to my aces and some other standard spots. I'm definitely noticing that I just not finding as many obvious spots to own peoples souls when I play at 1kNL. People just seem to have better overall games, the bluff better and have more balanced ranges in all the obvious spots. There's been a few guys I've played with who have just made me thing 'that guy is just really good'. Hopefully though I'm improving at a fast enough rate to keep up with the competition.

    BR = €25k
  38. #38
Last 2 days have been pretty swongy and annoying. I started out yesterday getting bad-beat for 4 buys at 3/6 HU vs a bunch of random fish. There was a few spots where I made bluffs that I'm not happy about (not because they were bluffs but because they were in kinda bad spots) and I don't think I adjusted particularly well to one of the guys I played. He was a fish who called EVERY bet and robo-bet 1/3 pot every chance he got but I just couldn't make any hands at all and he seemed to be smacking the deck. He showed down 4 full houses and a ton of other monsters over the course of our shortish match. Pretty tilting.

Anyways I took a break after that and came back strong in the afternoon yesterday and won back that money plus like €500 at 5/10 6max only to lose it all again in today's sessions. I'm pretty tilted at the moment so I've quit for the day.

I think I'm going to be taking a break from 5/10 for the rest of the month. I just feel that bit out of my depth up there and every small thing I get wrong only dents my confidence more and more so I think the best plan is to stick at 2/4 where I'm more confident that I can crush fairly well. I feel that I'm guessing far too much about peoples ranges when I play 5/10 and there's far too many grey areas in the hands I play. I'll play a while at lower stakes and see if I can take another shot eventually.

    BR = €22.5k
  39. #39
Back down to $18,000 now. Fuck me and fuck you 5/10.

I swear I will not play 1 single hand of 5/10 until the end of this month.

Default Why I lose at 5/10 this month

Just going over messy hands in the hopes I learn something.

    HAND 1)
Early in a HU session, no reads or stats. I believe he's a HU semi-REG.

    $5/$10 No Limit Holdem
    2 players
    Converted at weaktight.com

    Stacks:
    BTN Bloeffer ($1242.00)
    BB Hero ($985.00)

    Pre-flop: ($15, 2 players) Hero is BB
Bloeffer raises to $30, Hero raises to $105, Bloeffer calls $75

    Flop: ($225, 2 players)
Hero bets $123, Bloeffer calls $123

This cbet is too small, I should be betting bigger because thats what I'd do with the rest of my range, I'm not worries about being committed to calling if he shoves and I want to utilise as much fold equity as I can while my pot equity is at it's highest point.

    Turn: ($471, 2 players)
Hero bets $135, Bloeffer calls $135

My thoughts here were that I wanted to set up to shove any river with about 3/4 PSB left behind. However what I didn't realise at the time was that I'm basically committed to calling a shove if I bet any amount at all here so either checking or betting bigger are probably better options than what I did. I don't like checking though because this is a really good bluffing card and I have enough equity that a bet of some description has to be +EV. I think the best line here is probably just betting $340. Important to note that if I had bet bigger on the flop the turn would have been a lot easier.

    River: ($741, 2 players)
Hero bets $622, Bloeffer calls $622

Worst card in the deck to shove, this is obviously an easy c/f but I R TILT I ALL IN.

    HAND 2)
Villain is like 47/40/2.1 over 145 hands. We've some how managed to stay out of each others way up till this point.

    $5/$10 No Limit Holdem
    5 players

    Hero ($985.00)

    BTN ($1096.00)
    SB ($867.00)
    BB ($2051.75)

    Pre-flop: ($15, 5 players) Hero is UTG
Hero raises to $35, CO calls $35, 3 folds

    Flop: ($85, 2 players)
Hero bets $65, CO calls $65

Not the best flop in the worlt to cbet with this guy behind but I can't just c/f every flop I miss and let him run me over.

    Turn: ($215, 2 players)
    Hero checks, CO checks

I've no idea why I checked this turn. Should be a really easy bet. There were no draws on the flop (so nothing to check raise), it's a good double barrelling card (which he might know), if I c/c an aggro guy like this bloke will put me in nasty river spots, he's too lose and probably likes to call too much. b/f is the right line here.

    River: ($215, 2 players)
Hero bets $144, CO raises to $528, Hero calls $384

No idea why I bet and no idea why I called once I did bet.

    HAND 3)
This had is going to look super lol to everyone here but the guy it's against is (was!) a good friend of mine and we have some ridiculously confusing over betting history. That said I knew he has a draw when he bet the flop but for some reason I just has a total brain meltdown on the turn even though I knew the diamond smacked his range. On the river I though the Ace was a great bluffing card for him. This was more like a brain misclick than bad play.

Heh another brain fart. Turn is an easy bet/call but I thought that he bet the flop and I called and then c/r the turn in which case his range is stronger. idk I just haven't been concentrating lately or something.

This one was pretty LOL but let me preface it by saying that I actually have seen this guy make a huge 4bet like this and then fold to a shove before so knowing that I'm not sure if it's terrible or not. I'll include it anyway because it's at least funny.

    Interesting hands.

That AJ hand on the 34J7 board, I don't mind the turn fold thaaat much. I mean, I think the only thing you're beating that does this is Jx hearts, and 56 got there. I guess its read dependent.

The other AJ hand on A33AJ is just so so sick... wow.

Yeah, I'm with griffey about Hand 4. I don't see your stack size though.

yah doesn't show hero stack size. But just looked at your bet size, and you bet almost pot on the turn which probably makes it even more of a fold, given the strength you're showing?

I had like 100-120bb guys, not sure why it doesn't show my stack size. This villain is a really good reg who runs something like 26/22/aggro and the other guy is another decent reg. Any ideas what he might c/c the flop with like this? I'm kinda lost thinking about it after seeing your comments.

OK so BR is €17k atm. I'm trying to run damage limitations at the moment so I'm going to state 2 sub goals for this month.

    1) Don't play any more 5/10
    2) Rake €5k in total.

I have about 18k hands played so far and that's a total rake of about €2.5k so another 20k hands should do it.

    Hope I stop losing soon.

Jesus wtf is wrong with me lately. First that hand I posted in SHNL where I misread the action, then I somehow convinced myself that the villain c/c the flop and then c/r the turn in this AJ hand. I must be going crazy or something.

OK so since I now realise that he actually cbet the flop I agree with the fold. ffs!!

Should I ever check the turn behind here? I'd expect him to barrel or c/r all his draws and probably barrel like JT or whatever on the turn also.
