    Default Getting started, feeling good

Well, I'm back on track with my BR goals and trying to stay focused while playing. I started with a modest $200 BR yesterday, and am currently $20 up on that. Earlier today, I was $80 up from yesterday, but I couldn't hit shit and the rivers were brutal. Was beat with AK by QQ twice today, by way of 4Q by the river, and that's just the start. Played one final 10/1 NLHE FT MTT tonight and let myself tilt towards the end like a dumbass. But, it's a clear indication that I need to sleep and relax a bit. So, that's exactly what I'm going to do. I'll hit the tables again tomorrow after the house calms down (can't believe how important this is), and will be above where I was this morning. The title of this forum said it was for progress reports, here's mine.

In the service, and in my business, group accountability is KEY. So, I think this is a good way to make sure I keep my head on track, and not think i can squeeze a MTT into an hour between necessary tasks. Hope you all had great days at the tables, and I look forward to positive reports in the future. Thanks for all your help in the guides.

    Take care, friends,

    Matt

Anywhere from $1-$20/NLHE MTT. I play on FT currently. And I like to throw a little 7 Card Stud, $.25/$.50 every now and then.

It would be wise to not play MTTs on a $220 BR. You'll lose it really quickly unless you get extremely lucky.

If you insist on playing them, you shouldn't be playing higher than $3.30s, and you should be playing as small fields as possible.

    Welcome to FTR, GL.

OK, thanks for the kind words. The only reason I have been playing 10+ MTT is because the field is more limited in size. It's been easier for me to get ITM on those than the lower stakes, in the event I hit an extended period of card drought and stealing blinds isn't keeping up. It's going OK so far, I'm playing a $2/NLHE on FT right now, and I'm going to probably jump into a $5 later on. Played a $10 MTT the other night and finished in 43rd place I think, out of 3k entrants. I'll spend a few days hitting the ones you suggest and see how it goes. Thanks again!

If I prefer a tourney or SNG setting to a ring game, are you saying you would recommend I play SNGs instead of MTT?
  7. #7
For building a bankroll, SnGs are a better idea IMO.

Perhaps play some multi-table SnGs on FTP? I've never taken a look at their SnGs but they must have some low stake 90 mans? Those would be really good if they exist in the $3.30 range.

Yep, they sure do. I have played a few. Finish usually in the top 10-15, usually itm around 6-10th place. Thanks alot for the quick feedback.

If I were you and I wanted to build my BR playing MTTs, I'd play the 90 man SnGs (and smaller field sizes) until my BR were bigger. Maybe take shots at occasional large field $3.30s and under, but keep them to a minimum.

Anyway that's just IMO. GL whatever you decide to do!

Had a nice stack in the 2/NLHE MTT, and for some reason wanted to try a few draws. Too many distractions at home at the moment, but I became concerned about building my stack higher instead of tightening up and weathering the last 100 ppl. My game is developing again though and I can see the progress. Good stuff. Thanks again.

Good luck sir. You have one thing going for you already and that is you have courtibee giving you advice. She knows what she is talking about. Do yourself a big favor and read up:

cannot agree more with courtie. if you insist on playing multi-table SNG's, hit up FTP's KO SNG's. they are VERY soft up to the $12+2 depending on what time of the day/week you are playing. if you haven't looked into it already, i would also try out pokertracker. it has a free 60-day trial and you have to pay thereafter. it helps a lot to be able to recognise who the donators are. good luck!

Hey I understand the toughness of playin at the lower level. My BR is smaller than yours so I'm still at a real low level but GL to you man, hope you book a nice win soon.
  15. #15
Yeah, but yall are right, it's too easy to hit a bad streak and burn out the BR at higher levels. Not to mention, tilt is much more expensive at higher stakes. I did pretty good last night, finished ITM on a SNG and within 30 minutes or so on the 10/NL I played. I'm gonna stick to the SNGs for now and get Poker Tracker installed in case I have a question in the future. Thanks again guys/gals.

Well just won a little 2/NL SNG. Playing a ring game now due to time restraints. Guess I'll run a few more SNGs later on. I single tabled this one, I'll try a multi-table setup later. Woot!

Well, I played the Daily Double A on FTP last night (10/2 NLHE). I finished 24th out of over 1000 entries. Turned $11 into about $60, so that's cool. I was only a few places from the good money, so I'm a little bit annoyed I went out on 88, seems like I'd know better when the prize money almost doubled around 13-15 place. But, overall I increased my BR about $70-$75 Tuesday. I'm going to keep playing the Daily Double, one entry only, just like last night. We'll see where it goes. Thanks again for all the advice and guides.

One of the many times I have deposited a small amount and tried to run it up I start out playing the 27 and 45 man SnGs. I was pretty successful overall and turned a small deposit into a 25NL roll in a couple weeks more than once.

You can just play extremely tight in those and pick your spots pretty easily until the end when it's just a pretty simple push fold game. I'd personally recommend those.

are you playing double a but not double b? you're paying an extra $ in rake to the jack pot, you def want to play both. or, given a roll < 1k, neither.

Didn't get anywhere on the Daily Double tonight. I'm going to play a couple SNGs before it's time to crash out. Had a rootkit hit my comp last night after the tourney, so I put a new HDD in and a clean Windows install today. The infected HDD is DC'ed at the moment until I'm motivated to clean it up and pull my HH and other files off. But, it's nice to have a clean OS install on a new HDD. I'm a PC tech, so it took me about 90 minutes and I'm off to the tables.

We'll see how the rest of tonight goes.

And, Courtie. There's another post in the MTT forum about the big chip-stack at the table HEAVY betting every hand to the point it would put me all-in if I called. I waited until I really needed to do something with a decent hand I called. He won, obviously. But, it's all good. Keep my BR healthy, there's always tomorrow.

Well, I took 2nd, 4th, and 3rd in 3 SNGs tonight. Still kept me in the "up" for BR today. Going to bed. Will work some more tomorrow on the rest. Gnite friends.

Doing well in the Daily Dollar MTT on FTP. 200 players left. We'll see how it goes.
  24. #24
Finished the Daily Dollar MTT at FTP in 83rd place, out of over 12k players. Was sloppy to go all-in at that moment, but I'll know better next time. BR still looks good for the last day. Feels good to finish the day in a good position considering how it started. We'll see how Friday goes. Gnite.

Took 2nd in a $2 NL SNG. Went brain-dead once we were heads up and felt like a duck out of water for some reason. But, 2nd is still $12 from $2. Gonna play the daily dollar MTT tonight, and I might play the $10 Daily Double tonight. If not, I'll play some SNGs. I really feel like some MTT games tonight. We'll see. BR is still on a steady incline, slower than preferred, but busting is a bitch.

I'm really pleased with my overall consistency with the bigger Daily Dollar and Daily Double MTTs I've been playing. The money isn't great, but between the two, I've placed 83rd/12000, 24th/1000, 43rd/3000, and a slew of SNG top-3 finishes. We'll see how the night goes.
  26. #26
Well, I finished in the top 2, on 3 SNGs. I finished in the top 80 on the 3500 Knockout thing on FTP. Frustrated at my play this evening. Misclicked once, and didn't raise PF with AKs, and was basically beaten by the BB on the Flop. Didn't push with a set 2 times on the flop, and was drawn out on. I was being way too patient and assuming my hands were made. Lesson learned, again. Will move on and continue Saturday.

Finished 14th out of over 1000 on the Early Double A on FTP. Turned $5 into $60. Went AI with JJ and was beated by two-pair, 2s and 4s. Oh well, moving on to the next one.

What a fucked up day at the tables. Played horribly in the MTTs, and great in the ring games (which I haven't played in years). The ring games (.25/.50 NLHE) put me up about $100 within a couple hours. The MTTs I played, ugh, as soon as tables were seated I began to tilt. I'm not sure why, but I let those games run their course and logged out. Will try again tomorrow. Gnite.

FWIW, playing 50NL on a bankroll that isn't four figures is asking for trouble. I wouldn't do that if I were you.

....yeah, I did venture out a bit there. It was profitable THAT TIME, but I'm not playing that level anymore for now. I'm back to the .05/.10 stakes now. That was a crazy run of cards. AKs, QQ, KK, AA, 24(?), the KK again. After that brief run the cards dropped off and I decided to log out for a bit, well "up" on my starting money for the day. Then later, the MTTs I played were screwed due to an inexplicable brain-fog. So, I logged out for the night. I hear ya, though. You're absolutely right.
