For anyone wondering why I haven't updated in a while my laptop screen started to shut off while the computer was still on with a faintly visible image still present. Thought it might be the inverter board so took it into the local apple store since I'm heading home in 5 days didn't want to wait for the part to ship (1-2 weeks) so I could fit it myself. Anyway Apple got my hopes up by saying it should be ready next day but apparently now it's going to take an extra 2 days so no grinding for a bit.

6k hands this month so far, just need to cut out the C game and things should be good.

Hey, what kind of conditioner should I use for my dry hair?
Yeah I know what you mean, just got remember it's a long term game and the short term variance doesn't really matter.

Did you know Beer can be used as a conditioner?

Quick update before Christmas, I'm back back up to near even after being down 8BI by the 10th. Need to earn 74VPP to get the $50 bonus so about 1.5k hands should do it.

Peace on earth and all that good stuff to everyone.

Oh hi dere brah! Hows life?

Completely forgot about that HU match, hands are pretty vague in memory now.

It was 40BB HU with 8min blinds levels so loads of variance. This guy started off minraising around 80% of buttons which was unexpected (passive opponents as standard). I was flatting quite wide but in retrospect should have 3bet one or 2 more hands, got in 1 3bet with T6s 2BB=>6BB which I think was too small though he still folded. He 3bet 1/2 times both of which I had garbage and ended up folding my 2.5BB open, didn't want to 4bet jam and get snapped by something like KJ not knowing his 3betting range. Picked up on a timing tell that he always acted quicker when he had air and slowed right down when he had hit.

Anyways there were a few hands where it was taken down with a cbet. One hand where I lead a gutshot and got raised. Big hand was where he opened, I called with JTo and flop came AQxr, goes ck ck, turn is a K and I lead pot he calls river is a brick I bet he jams AJ. So I think I had 6k to his 2k at this point, blinds were getting high and he was shipping most BTN's. I tried raising a polarized range and limping a merged range with short stacks though ended up being card dead so it didn't work great.Big mistake was me not shoving enough myself towards the end. Ended up being 7/3BB each and he won with 66 vs A6 and 22 vs KJ. Overall just reinforced the point that I'm not great at tournaments (especially 15-30BB stage) but I'd like to play more HU if I get the chance.

What I just wrote looks semi incoherent but I can't really remember much else about it.

Back in the present I'm doing work on a progress report and some lite revision for January exams. On the poker front I've almost reached the $50 bonus for this year, getting that then stopping. Also using my FPP's to play 235fpp 6m sats to the sunday storm, I'm unlikely to get the higher end bonuses any time soon and want to get a decent rate for my fpps so these seem like good value. Played 8 and cashed 3 for T$33, have 10k fpps left so hopefully should make around another 100.

Will probably move sites now that stars is fucking around around with the rake, maybe go to ipoker or titan.

New habit I'm trying to do is meditate for 5mins every day, successful so far.

2011 draws to a close and I've been thinking about whether to make a new years resolution since I never have before. I think it'd be a good idea to meditate everyday in 2012 even if it's just for a few minutes. This should also help other stuff in my life.

Anyway I played 9k hands this month and ended up up +$30 with bonuses and +T$33 at hyper turbo sats.

Wherever you are and whatever you're doing today I wish you a happy new year.

Poker is taking a backseat this month to exams, 3 of them on 19th/23rd/27th to be precise. They're even more important than normal since it's final year.

I've got a rough timetable of revision planned from now until the end and have been working steadily at it for the past 10 days so as long as I keep it consistent things should be ok.

Resurrecting this thing like a hideous zombie.

Haven't played much poker in the past 4 months, only the odd home game for pennies. Finally got the urge to play again the past few days, despite the fact that my final exams are right around the corner.

Going to play in the FTR SCOOP satellite with some tournament $ I got from playing hyper turbos with my fpps, think I converted 10000 points into $170 or something like that.

    Will report in later.

edit: Went out 62/110 shoving 77 in MP for 11BB, made some aimless calls early and didn't play well. Got better towards the end, played some breakeven cash on the side.

    Revision is going ok.

Played for an hour this evening then watched the finale of the football season. Afterward I didn't feel sleepy so played some 10NL, apart from some small sloppy preflop mistakes my thought process seemed good + ran good vs all the fish online at 1am.

I've realized that 2-4 tables is great for me, keeps me focused + non auto piloting. Not planning to play more even when card dead as I don't get bored easily.

Bed now, lots of revision tomorrow. I'll just post a hand against a 57/25 that netted me the biggest pot of the night.

Viva on 24th, 1 exam on 25th and 2 on 29th which also happens to be my birthday. I'm finding it hard to care about these exams at the moment tbh.

Part of it is doing this degree for the last 4 years of my life, after a while it gets wearing especially if you don't have a real passion for what you do. I like Physics and I think I'm competent at it but only rarely do I get enthusiastic about it.

Hence the reason I'm not applying for Phd's, even if I could get one it'd be waste of 3 years grinding away at something that wouldn't make me happy. Something I am interested in is alternative/renewable/experimental energy and that's where I'll focus some job applications after the Summer. I'm very lucky in that I don't have any debt from uni and that my parents are fine with me living at home for a while.

Anyway at the moment I've got a real urge to play, learn, discuss and crush poker. Obviously very bad timing with the exams. I've been playing around 400 hands a day and playing decent at that. But I'm going to be disciplined and not play until the exams are over. I've done this degree for 4 years, so failing to put in the effort in last 11 days is dumb.

    Might post some HH's though.

Finished exams yesterday then went out for some drinks with friends to celebrate. All the exams were good, even the one that potentially could have been very tough. By the end I felt more exhausted than I've ever felt before.

Next few weeks are going to be about chilling with friends, BBQ's, getting into basketball and lots of poker. Also gonna try to eat better and exercise more since I got a little sloppy during exams.

I've started playing basketball recently after messing around with a few friends when all the badminton courts were booked. Really enjoyed it despite never playing before, obviously I'm not good but I feel like with practice improvement is definitely possible.

There aren't many courts in Southampton that are close but free to use. University court requires 4 people to book it a few days in advance. I did find one about a 1/2 hour away, full size with nets and ok boards but really underused. This morning was supposed to be sunny with rain the rest of the day. So I got my lazy ass up to the court for 7am to practice, mainly did free throws, layups and 3 pointers. Threw in a few suicides for conditioning. Going back tomorrow morning because I felt great afterwards.

    Now for some poker.

I know the sense of relief after finishing uni exams - make the most of it!! I used to play a load of basketball before I went to Uni and a little bit whilst I was there. In terms of fitness training it is insane.

Pretty useless info here but I have a really close friend who lives in Southampton.

Gl getting back into the poker.
