Default Laggtard at FullRing: The epic Journey

Preamble: Ty anyone and everyone who reads/posts in here.

Bout time i started up a blog. I learn by doing and failing, and I havent been doing the doing so its time to step the fuck up. Schools over for now, and im gonna make some commitments.

    1) play at least 10k hands/month. its not that fucking hard.
    2) post at least 1 hand per session in the BC or on this blog. I am not good, and i do not play perfectly. Get some advice damn it
    3) lose 40 lbs. Im 180 and 5'6, fuck that shit.
    4) Read poker books, omg reading what?

This comes from a few things. 1st, M2M and Stax joined FTR after me and are both amazing now, and im uber jealous and am hating. I can do that, fuck this 10-25nl shit. Time to grind myself out of this shithole of a limit.

Additionally, I've realized something about these 10nl players. They arent as bad as i think they are. Just because they're mentally retarded doesnt mean they arent playing tighter in position, being selective preflop, or making decisions based on past actions. Theyre just doing it incorrectly, and i can exploit this, and have exploited this, by just playing a tight game with as little dick waving as possible. Remember that guy who minbet flop and potted turn? he got your money didnt he? He cant have a monster, his line makes no sense...FUCK YOU, yes it does, he bet and then bet some more. get over it.

Also, ive become the fattest guy in my group of friends...fuck that shit. Im skinnier than you damn it!

    So lets get it on.

Goal #1) get BR back to $600 so i can play my 25nl again

Commitment number 2 accomplished for today

Im posting this cuz its bullshit.

27 hands, 59/0/1.6/0 vpp/pfr/af/3b%, he hasnt done anything noticeable really, pretty straightforward.

    the problems
    1) i limp pre, wtf
    2) bet sizing is atrocious imo, wtf again
    3) turn call is questionable...implied odds probably make it ok.

on turn his range is like, two pair+, pair+draw, or total air with a higher weight towards the first one. pair of jacks likely isnt good enough on the river as i dont see enough pair+draw hands to show up here, though i do think that he thinks im fos alot here. i need to be good a fair amount of the time and i just dont think i am. thoughts?

I don't like the call pre - even if CO and btn iso 15% each there, then you're limp/folding ~20% of the time, so you're already loosing 0.2bb/100. and then the blinds are still left to act. I don't really like an iso raise either because of the gaystacks behind you, who might raise/get it in with a fairly wide range.
Folding seems like the best play preflop.
I like the rest. Good fold on the river.
bet sizing seems fine. Turn bet/fold would be bad - you have 12 outs unless he has 68 which is a small part of his range - if he has 68 you still have 9... you need to make almost nothing compared to the pot on the river to make the turn call profitable. (hint: in NL you're rarely ever correct to fold a 9+ outs draw going to the next street if there's still money behind and villain isn't overbetting the pot.)
Turn bet is fine. - you're betting .4 into .75, so you only need ~35% FE if you loose every time he calls... I'm not gonna do the whole calculation, mainly because I'm incompetent, but with your 12 outs you don't even need 15% FE on the turn to break even.

As an avatar... I like this one:

    seems fitting for this forum.

Haha, I like oskars choice for an avatar.

The J8s hand, either raise or fold PF like said above, otherwise played fine imo.
  5. #5
Also, gtfo of FR imo. Play 6m where the real feeshus (me) are. If you really want to get better, play fewer tables, take more notes, and learn to beat the regs instead of just the fish. These are some of the things m2m has done and his results show it.

Either way, pwn nubs, get money, move up, repeat. Gl sir.

I'm assuming people told you they hated your preflop play, so I won't repeat it (wait, I just did).

Anywho, good luck with everything. I gotta lose this fucking weight as well. We should start some shit on here for fatasses that need to lose weight and want to prop bet while doing so.

hrm, well said. i didnt take most of those into consideration.

@Dr. Anger: meh, as soon as i prove to myself that i can beat nitring ill go back to 6max. I need to learn some patience instead of just blindly trying to out play everyone, everyhand. Best place for that is FR imo, and then ill try a looser but still solid game at 6m.

@boog: i like where this is going. christmas is coming though and its impossible to lose weight during holidays so ill hit you up sometime in january. Also im gonna beat you to 200nl boog, i swear to god. You won the race to 50nl but im gonna catch up damn it!

    Thanks for the replys guys

Haha I'm with you buddy. No more of this ego-spew! As for the weight thing. Go for it man. Being in shape makes you feel amazing and honestly helps your brain out a lot as well.

It's just like any other area including poker. Commit to it, study it, and make yourself do it and all you will ever see is improvement.

Played for 10 minutes when i was kinda groggy, down 2 buy ins. BS yo. Made 1/2 back playing HU..so not terrible i guess.

Bought Theory and Practice and read a bunch of that instead. Most of the info is already on FTR and floating about other places but there are those rare instances where the authors say something and i go WAIT WUT.

For instance...they had a scenario where hero had a set with 1 card to come and knew villain had a flush draw. $500 effective behind in a pot of $100, He also knew that when villain hit his flush, he would shove.

If hero could only check, or shove the turn, and villain never called, it was actually a higher expectation to just check because we'd gain money when villain hit 2 of his 9 outs (we get a FH), dont lose any when he misses, and dont put any more in when he hits and we dont call.

Not sure if i explained that right, but it was pretty thought provoking and has pretty much changed the way i think about my bet sizing. For instance, its obviously still correct to bet...but its NOT a mistake to bet an amount that gives him proper odds just so long as he calls and he still shoves when he hits! So making a small 'mistake' on hero's part on the turn results in a huge mistake on the river for villain.

IDK, maybe thats obvious...but a situation like that i would normally think that id just bet enough to make him not draw for free...but he's making a mistake regardless of what i bet since he overvalues his flushes.

Thus...since micro players have a big problem with relative hand strength....

    so ya...thought provoking

Ive also become convinced that its possible to perform some betsizing ev calcs at the table with a bit of memorization regarding certain common problems. IE, since im usually with 100bb effective stacks and we have common 1psb, 2psb, and 3psb scenarios...i could memorize smoe math for these pot sizes depending on what kind of draw my opponent has.

Obv though, itd be rough since dealing with implied odds gets tricky when my opponents range is wider...but itd be nice to be able to play the really really easy spots perfectly at least.

Ok enough rambling now, hand history time.

Villain is a 0/0 over 5, and its my 3rd hand at the table. His stack size gives me the impression that hes one of dem shorties that doubled recently, and they typically over value Top Pair types hands and draws. Anyways...

    CO ($7.55)
    JKDS ($9.85)
    SB ($4.18)
    BB ($3.88)

    Pre-Flop: ($0.15, 8 players) JKDS is BTN
    3 folds, MP2 calls $0.10 ($4.70), 1 fold, JKDS raises to $0.50 ($9.35), 2 folds, MP2 calls $0.40 ($4.30)

I haz a J of clubs and a T of clubs. Raise! (kidding aside, its JTs and im on the button against a 0/0 and some other wimpy blinds)

    Flop: ($1.15, 2 players)
    MP2 checks ($4.30), JKDS bets $1 ($8.35), MP2 calls $1 ($3.30)

two pairs! Drawy ass board, and limp/callers have tons of braodways in their range...ie think of one and its there except for perhaps AK and TT+ which def raise or 3b pre. Spades and straight draws are there too including just random Ax gutIters and T9's. Im way ahead, and want to play for his stack psb seems about right

    Turn: ($3.15, 2 players)
    MP2 bets $1 ($2.30), JKDS raises to $6.15 ($2.20) ...

wtf is this shit, you're donking into me on the 3 of clubs...you bitch.

So its like 28 combos of hands that i can reasonably expect to be behind (K9 could be there, but TT+ and AK arent likely at all). Theres bound to be several draws and single pair type hands right? So shove!

the above is really only gay because i dont know all that much about this particular villain and most of what i used to play on were a bunch of generalities that i guessed related to him.

atm, im thinking that the most dubious thing is the pfr (fwiw, the blinds are also both 0/0's, over 2 hands though)

"wtf is this shit, you're donking into me on the 3 of clubs...you bitch. "

    made me lol a lot.

I think you played it fine. J10s is a fine PFR on the button and either he has the straight or some random ass pair (hopefully not 3s)

Had a QQ vs AA hand i was gonna post which resulted in a +1buy in session instead of what should be a +2bi...

but the hand was just played so terribly that there really is no point. its not even results orientedness, its just "ok his range is x...so i bet y...but y doesnt get value from x...soooooo wait wut".

maybe ill post it later just to get berated...idk.

update: finished reading theory and practice, and had a merry christmas.

br so far +7bi /2500 hands in like 4 days or so, not terrible. Almost at the point of taking shots at 25nl again, might do so a bit earlier just cuz ive been there before and its the holidays still. Nothing dramatic, just like at 550 instead of 600 kind of thing.

    Also, free GS membership baby!

25nl shot taking it is, up 1/2 a 25nl buyin over like 500 hands (wtf cares?) but ive noticed so far that people arent as willing to stack off to me with their TPNK type hands anymore and arent calling raises with silly hands like QT as much. This effected my thinking pretty heavily and makes me question a couple hands.

This one i think im a pussy. thoughts? Limper is a 27/2 over like 50ish, the initial caller is an 11/8/5af over 100 but half of these come from previous 25nl's and i dont know how accurate they reflect his current play. Seems solid though.

    Pre-Flop: ($0.35, 9 players) Hero is UTG+1
UTG calls $0.25, Hero raises to $1.25, 3 folds, CO calls $1.25, 3 folds, UTG calls $1

i haz aq, fu limper ldo

    Flop: ($4.10, 3 players)
UTG checks, Hero checks, CO bets $2, UTG folds, Hero calls $2

flop TPTK on a dry board, and im only really frightened of a King falling. if i bet, im not exactly sure what would be calling me. Like i said earlier, i dont really see mr 11/8 calling with too many Qx type hands except maaaaaaaybe AQ and KQ. maaaybe. everything else should be pairs and sc's right? so if i were to bet here id only get bets from sets pretty much. His af is high (im still only 50 hands in, so i dont have much of a feel for anyone yet, af is as good as i can get) so maybe i can get a bet or two if i check. like i said, im not terrified of anything.

but how does that affect mr limp/caller? am i targetting the wrong guy and i should be betting near potish cuz HE actually COULD have a bunch of q's in his range? im totally lost here.

after villain bets and limper folds, im thinking the only real range that makes sense now is pairs (22-88 variety that arent sets) and things like overcards...call and c/c turn?

    Turn: ($8.10, 2 players)
    Hero checks, CO checks

    or maybe c/r this turn...maybe even lead...idfk..

    River: ($8.10, 2 players)
Hero bets $3.50, CO calls $3.50

hes not betting anymore, thats for sure. target dem middle pars

ill prob post more later, gs video time!

+6 10nl buyins over like 1500 hands. TY grinderschool videos. Ive switched over to my natural lagg style (about 22/18 fr of course) and having a good amount of success. Isoing fish, playing alot in position, stealing lots of blinds, all that good stuff, and im having alot of fun doing it.

Today i should have actually switched tables...but im a competitive jackass that has more fun when theres more challenge. Dumb in terms of incraesing br...and i hope i switch tables next time.

Thats not to say it diidnt turn out well, i had a guy that was playing a bit laggier than me to my left that loved calling me and raising me in position and was very difficult to play against as well as difficult to just play the game i want. I ended up raping him anyway by changing gears, +3buyins from him alone, but really theres no reason to play against him when i can just open up a new table where there isnt some lagg guy to my left fuckign my game up.

+3ish buyins, BR like 675 or so.

Im kind of worried, ive been running pretty good lately while also still trying to get used to playing like 22/18 or so. Id love to say i had success over the like 3k hands ive done it over...but ldo sample size and im running f-ing good. So we shall see...

Also ive been table selecting! holy shit! who knew you could just look at the tables and say "this one is probably fishier" and get more monies!

Goal 1: Get to 600 and play the 25 en els ---- Complete
Goal 2a: Get to 1500ish and play the 50 en els

Goal 2b: Lose >10lbs in January. Ill post exact starting weight and work out schedule later.

BR: $801. Playing lagg is so much better than tagg i cant even describe it. I feel like im playing poker on easy mode now, its great.

Had 2 rough hands today for 1buyin and 1.5buyins, lost both but they turned out to be +ev and very slightly -ev respectively so i dont feel too bad about them other than ruining my 4.5 buyin session.

Reminder to self: Started playin seriously around dec 18th. Jan 18th i need to show a graph and see how many hands i gots. Currently i have about 6k for approximately 15 days...sucky amount of hands compared to everyone else but im on track for hitting my 10k and im only playing 2hrs of poker while 4 tabling so i didnt expect much better. Currently crushing 25nl for 50bb/100 so w/e.

re weight - exercise and diet are the keys. Snacks and sugar drinks begone. Write down a plan and the goals - keep a journal daily on activity towards the goals
    re 10k hands/month - you'll be fine
re poker books - can't remember if you're on stars or FT - if FT start doing the my academy thing = you get books for free soon enough
re posting hands - i'll look at them sometimes
