Here's the official blog thread as suggested by me in the registration thread. Here feel free to post anything regarding comments/ your own thoughts/ progress on the challenge.

I'd just like to say I'm really excited about this. I'd really like to somehow get to 400nl before the challenge starts so i can have a good shot at winning. This i think, is an awesome thing for FTR, a challenge to take all of our games to the next level.

Regarding the probability of one of us actually getting 30k

I'm in.

$30k is a lot; I might make it to $15k by then end of this.

Between around 10 players its not unlikely one of us gets hot. Anyways, even if i stay at 200nl the whole time (doubtful).
4ptBB/100 6-8 tabling is around 500 hands per hour. That's $80 an hour.
30000/80=375 hours.

375/6 hours per day = ~62 days, that's two months of 6 hours per day (with no life easy as pie).

Obviously, I think it's going to take playing higher to win this, as I fully expect to be at at least 400NL by the end.

How long will it take?: I'd say it's going to take me two months, but if i run hot it will take me possibly a month. Of course, if i dont run well at all it's going to take me at least 4.

my br is pretty complicated too. i have ~12k online, but it swings a lot when i make withdrawals (am a "pro," temporarily)
my stake has been 200nl on UB...but for too long - 60k+ hands now (5.2ptbb/100).

i have about 2k hands at 400nl. this level seems a bit more intimidating than others have. only played so far when a game looked good and i felt right for it.
but im sure everyone in this can beat mid stakes, so this will be great motivation to play good, and stay in these games where more solid money is possible.

i just wonder who will run the hottest? i'm at 13ptbb so far at 400nl...seriously though, i'll be real happy to finish in 2 months.
tough to pick really. i guess sauce but think anything is possible.

My background/random thoughts :

Rode a rush from nl50 up to nl400 in the space of about 20k hands at the end of summer '06. Felt burned out by start of October and sick of ridiculous swings my style lent itself to at nl400. Took a month off and studied/discussed/railed/posted a lot. Withdrew a bunch of my roll at the end of October and started playing again as part of this Operation, where I experimented with an unnecessary but fun "extreme-lagg" style (I think my final stats for the Operation were about 41/24) :

Having gome from a hyper-tagg (27/21 for my entire database up until my burnout) to extreme-lagg style gave me a pretty good feel for the different reactions different styles of play bring about at the low stakes.

Towards the end of the year I started coaching a few ppl and really really enjoyed that. I'm obviously by no means a guru but I think I've experimented with my game more than most ppl and have had success with different styles. I feel much much more prepared for a serious move up the limits after the hundreds of hours I've spent talking about the game, railing people and playing myself over the past few months.

I'll be leaving for Peru on July 6th and I'll have at least 2 periods where I won't be able to play for 3-4 days during the challenge. That leaves me about 50 days to make 30k. If I'm disciplined and play as much as I hope to, then I think completing the challenge before I take off will be doable.

If I had to bet on myself, I'd say I'm give myself about 3.5-1 to take it down.

Cliff notes: Started ring career at 10NL FR april 2006. Switched to 200NL 6-max december 2006. Recently moved up to 1000NL. Dropped 15k the last two weeks, can't detatch myself mentally from the money at stake so I have decided to move down to 400NL and grind out at least 50k hands before moving back up.

I am a preflop nit and am currently trying to open up my game a bit. I'm ok but not very good postflop, this needs improvement and the balla challenge is a good time to do it.

Flop and turn overbets probably means that he wants to get alot of chips in before scare cards hit. You should have tried to accommodate him on the flop, even with these stack sizes.

Sucks when he just calls our raise and the turn bricks, though. This is actually a very interesting hand for that reason. How sick would a flop crai be? We're basically coinflipping against a reasonable calling range (sets/straights?), but we allow him to make a terrible call with two pair, AKc, AA etc once in a while. With him not being a thinking player, I think this is actually a viable option.

today i was down 1k at one point and worked my way up to up 100. What a fucking cooler sesh. Three set over sets, luckily not all of them were full stacks and two of them were where i tripped up on the turn. Ugh that was horrible, I could've been up so much. I'd just like to share one awesome hand. The flop call of the reraise was a float because he was bluffing a lot here. When he checked behind the turn i thought there was an 100% he was bluffing.

Running like shit so far in the big pots (besides the post I made above lol) but feel like I'm playing really well.

Since I still feel ancy about the money flying around at nl400 I'm playing much tighter than usual and concentrating on table selection.

The biggest beat though is by far my cpu situation. My fkin laptop has been shutting down/overheating so I've ordered a new Dell which should take at least a week to get here...

In the meantime I'm trying to use my buddy's cpu but that's complicated for Ptracker/AceHUD. Overall I've probably spent 6 hours on shitty ass cpu garbage that should've been spent playing so I've only been able to get about 1.5k hands in for a small loss (something like 350$).

Tonight the tables were wild on Party and I had to fight with some of the supposedly better 2p2 regs to get at the fish. I opened my game up some and the swings were huge ; at one point I was up 1.5k and I ended up down about 150$ for the session due to a bunch of horseshit and one very sicko/spewy bluff... that I happen to like based on my read.

Finally, the bluff that lost me the biggest pot of the night :

Villain had been running insane (44/35) and liked to “put you on a draw” and fire away. He seemed capable of folding, however, and controlled pots in position (so not a bad player… just a bit crazy!).

My turn shove is obv taking a “showdownable” hand and turning it into a bluff, but there were a ton of cards I’d hate to see on the river and the pot was already big. Also, since I figured villain’s range was pretty polarized (overpairs and sets or else overs/air… he’d almost always check behind with medium-strength hands), the shove had the merit of possibly folding out some better hands this deep (QQ, KK maybe AA a small % of the time and definitely Jx).

Also, my image at the table was awesome. Oh well. Wish he’d just snap-called instead of running the timer down to 1 second… :

I wrote party and this is the horseshit they wrote back (about the guy abusing disconnect protection) :

Disconnect Protection is a tool implemented to protect players in the event that their internet connection is lost while involved in a pot. That is if the player is disconnected from our server during the course of hand, we protect his bet treating him ‘All In’ for that hand and can win whatever is in the pot at the time of the disconnection (if his hand qualifies to be the winning hand).

If the player had a winning hand, he will be eligible to win the pot (the main pot). The game continues (even after the player is disconnected) and other players would invest their Bet amounts in ‘Side Pots’. Other players are eligible to win Side pot and the main pot. However, the disconnected player is eligible to win only the main pot as he has invested only in this pot!

Please, note that a player is eligible for 2 Disconnect Protects per Day and a maximum of 8 DP’s per week. This is a very important feature. Imagine what would happen if you get disconnected and lose all your money just because of this. Very few players try to take advantage of this feature by not acting and “pulling the plug” and intentionally disconnecting.
