Operation $100 NLHE by Years End

Hey guys,

Ive made a couple of posts here and there, but mostly I've been a lurker and thought the best way to get more involved is to start an operation and get some feedback from you all.

I would consider myself fairly nubbish and am currently playing $5 NLHE. My goal is to steadily improve and move up the ranks and by the end of this year I want to be playing $100 NLHE.

Ive made several attempts at the game in the past; most of them misguided, unorganized and pretty much big failures. Mostly due to bad, i.e. NO, bank roll management and not looking for online resources like this place earlier.

I found this site several months ago and instantly found the information a huge help, however I've just not been able to really focus on improving my game until recently. So that is what this operation/blog will be all about. I'm lookin forward to any and all feedback and hopefully together we can improve my game

Right now I have a meager bankroll of $160, so I will be staying with $5 NLHE for the forseeable future. I do have pokertracker and HUD so if I can figure it all out I'll try and post graphs and what not.

As for the first hand posted, JTo is very tough to play vs a raise, especially vs someone that loose we´ll never know where we at. When u post villians stats/reads on him, u need to differ between his vpip and pfr. He may play 50% of his hands, if he plays only 2% for a raise the whole "read" changes dramatically.

and ya I know, will try to keep track of villain's total stats for future hand postings. He was raising alot and playing fairly loose. I normally wont call out of position with non suited 10J, but in this case I was feeling itchy and it worked out.

Ive logged 2300 hands so far today with poor results, down 4 buy ins. I'll try and get some hands posted tomorrow after reviewing my session. Im pretty sure I just cant handle more than two tables, was trying to sit at 4, so Im dropping to two tables only for the time being. I know, weak, but its how I gots to do it. :P

I played about 2300 hands yesterday and last night, unfortunately finished down 4 buy ins. I was down more, but most of that was while I was attempting to 4 table. I dropped to 2 tables and played far better, getting back 4 buy ins. Probably too swingy even for this lvl, but because I was pretty confident it had alot to do with taking on too many tables I decided to keep playing and I'm glad I did.

Here are some of the big losers. Again, no stats or reads on the villains as these are also hands before I started jotting that stuff down.


I won't lay KK preflop down here, just unlucky. And yes, I know raise alot more preflop with it but this table was playing nitty and I wasnt getting any action with my earlier raises when I had big hands:

Here is my big donkey play for yesterday's session. I played this like a moron, Im pretty sure had I played it optimally I still might have gotten stacked by the river, but please tell me what you all think. This is the kind of thing I have to stop doing if I ever want to move up. Again, no reads on villains for now. I'll work on getting them for future hands. Anyone know if I can get stats on this player for this hand after the fact? Or can I only get his overall stats as I have them in pokertracker?

Not much to report. Played about 7000 hands this month so far and have been posting some hands in my thread in the beginners section, check it out:

Right now I'm down about two buy ins, but I feel like I'm improving every day. I still do stupid things (the main reason I'm still in the red), and I'll post the specific hands sometime tonight, but all in all I feel alot better about my poker playing than I ever have before.

Ive dabbled with $10 NLHE, I'll admit it, but nothing heavy. About 360 hands and am running at 15BB/100 but Im not reading too much into that and wont be playing too much of it until the roll is ready.

Ive decided to try 6 tables after all and now that I've gotten used to it, its not that bad. Had a fair night and was up 4 buy ins before I got sleepy and did some things that were dumb, lost 2 buy ins. Which still puts me finally back at even for the month lol. So I'm calling it a night. Posted a couple hands in my thread in beginner's forum.

8,712 hands logged so far this month and only running at 2.80BB/100 not great, but for me its an improvement. Take the last 4k hands and I'm running 10.73BB/100

So I'm very interested to see what things look like at 25k hands and then 50k.

Looks like my stats for the 87oo hands are about 24.5/13/1.6 maybe a little loose preflop?

Interestingly over the lasts 4k hands I've tightened up a bit, and thats also around when I started 6 tabling. Stats for the last 4k hands are 21/13/1.87

All so very interesting, I'm sure. :P

AJ hand: nice, very standard...always feel good about getting it all in on the flop with top pair/nut FD.

AQ hand: bet .20-.25 after he checks the flop. If he calls that, bet upwards toward pot (.70ish). If he's calling those, reload immediately when he stacks you on the river because he's an absolute donk. And write a note that he's checking a missed flop after 3-betting you PF.

33 hand: Perfectly fine...get it in on the flop every time, it just sucks that he over-setted you.

KK hand: Calling the AI all day, too bad he hit his queen.

QQ hand: This one is interesting...I've seen tons of people show up here with AK (and worse) at these limits, and the fact that he's running 27/14 over a good sample makes me even more inclined to call. I'm not sure if it's right, but I'd probably play it the same way.

TT hand: Nice PF raise, good c-bet as well. There's nothing wrong with calling this turn either...you've picked up a gutshot holding second best pair and you're getting almost 4 to 1 on your money against the shortstack (and for all we know he could have crap like a flush draw)...plus it makes you look like a donk to the rest of the table

And yeah, 24.5 is a bit loose (judging by your winrate it looks like you don't quite have the skill just yet to play like that)...tighten up from earlier positions and just fold hands like that JTo one. Keep it up, and you'll eventually get the hang of it!

Thanks for the feedback! Definitely tightening up my game, already making a world of difference over the last few thousand hands. Hopefully I'll keep steadily building the roll and be able to move up to the $10 games within a month or two.

Some things I want to work on as well are getting into the habit of taking more notes, I do take them but not nearly as often or as thorough as I should. And also just taking more time per hand to think before acting.

While I'm aware of not getting as much value out of winning hands as I should and other holes in my game, I'm not going to try and think about too much at these stakes just yet. Just trying to stay out of trouble and build the roll for now.
