    Default Operation: Back to midstakes

    Background:

This will be a pretty long text with my poker history so for those who don't want to read it I can sumarize my poker career with a really big rollercoaster for me building my bankroll up from nothing to very big for then getting broke again a few times. Now you can jump down to the Operation part if you'd like to.

I've been playing poker Online now for about three years. It started with small tournaments live with my friends for then starting to first play with play money at MultiPoker for then getting $50 free to play with at PartyPoker. I got really lucky and won a $33 freezeout just the first week playing online with real cash and take down a nice paycheck of $7,350.

With this big win I think I was the king of poker and immediately started playing at the NLHE 5-10 games at PartyPoker. The first day I build up my bankroll to $12,000 for then dropping down to only $5,000. After that I took a step down in levels and only played the NL100 and NL200 games for about 2-3 weeks where I was lucky who didn't loose any money, but I din't make a profit either. Then I decided to withdraw about $3,000 and go down playing NL50 and $11 SnG's which turned out pretty good but I was stupid and withrawed money every month bein' a "balla" so I couldn't climb up in levels again.

At this levels I stayed for like 9 months last year 'til I had some good luck cashing some decent money in MTT's which finally gave me a chance to play NL100 and NL200.

Then I had my worst streak ever which ended with me getting broke in January this year. I had a month without poker to start playing again in February after getting staked with $1,200 at NL50 by a friend of mine.

There I continued my bad streak and after two weeks I was down at only $85. With this money I joined a PLO 2-4 game at iPoker and after two hours I sat with about $1,000 at the table. This was the start of a long and really nice winning streak.

After playing up this $85 to $1,000 at that PL400-game I started playing NL100 as I was tired of NL50. After a couple of weeks and some nice results in as well cashgames and tournaments, and also a $5,000 bonus at Expekt, I had a bankroll of $15,000. This I chopped with my friend at the end of the month leaving me with about $5,500. The good run continued and I won a total of $31,000 in just two months.

After this two months I started my worst bad streak ever. Losing about $6K-$8K. I'm not sure about the exact amount. But with too much cashouts at the same time I was down at just $1,500 in bankroll.

I had a long break after that and two weeks ago I started playing NL100 with this $1.5k bankroll, really stupid I know. I lost down to $500 and started playing lowlimit Sit and Go's and MTT's winning up to about double of that amount, which where I am today.

My total profit is about $30,000 I guess. And I know that I have not been just lucky. I am a winning player and now I gonna start my climb up to the mid-high stakes games again!

    Operation back to midstakes:

At this moment my bankroll is at $1089. My main goal is to build it up for the NL200-NL400 games in the nex two-three months. I will have a requirement of 40 full buy-ins (100bb) at NL100 and 50 buy-ins for both NL200 and NL400.

At the beginning my head game will be $11 and $22 six-handed turbo SnG's at iPoker. I will also play a lot of satellites for the Sunday Million at PokerStars, which I will take the T$ from, and MTT's which have a buy-in of $10-$26 in freezeouts and $3-$10 in rebuys, mostly at PokerStars and Full Tilt.

My screen names at the sites which I am playing at right now:

    PokerStars: x4D0Wm4ST4h
    Full Tilt: dntpushme
    iPoker (NoIQ): L337H4XX0R

If you haven't noticed yet I'm from Sweden so my english is not at the top. If there is something you don't understand from what I'm writing please ask me in a kind way and I will try to explain. :P

If you any suggenstions for how I can make this blog better please put a comment here in this blog and I will try to fix this.

The main reason which I decided to write a blog here is because I am tired of the swedish pokerforums with all the besserwissers and the "swedish jealousy" and I had the oppinion that this seems to be a friendly forum. Which I hope it is.

First pokerday while having a blog here at FTR didn't turn out so well. I played about 20 MTT's and just 11 SnG's. Didn't get deep in any tourney besides a $3 rebuy where I got semi-deep and ended up 75th of 2443. The day ended with a net loss of $263.

    1/7: +$136
    2/7: -$263

    Result: -$127

    July goals
    11/2500 Sit and Go-tournaments
    26/130 Multi-table Tournaments

I'm ending this day early because im really on a madtilt now after getting some really tough beats in some MTT's. I can sumarize the day with a hand history. 499 entries in a $22 freezeout at Prima Poker, 27 players left.

    http://www.pokerhand.org/?1230935

Then I got deep in the $3 rebuy at stars again and got some beats there as well and knocked out at 131th place. After that I was really pissed off so I decided to leave the rest of the tourneys I was playing at that time and take up the grind again tomorrow.

Hopefully I will put my self together tomorrow and be able to start the SnG-grind for real.

Edit: Put in the results from the NL50-grind which you can find more info about a few posts down.

    July results day for day
    1/7: +$136
    2/7: -$263
    3/7: +$326

    Result: +$199

    July goals
    20/2500 Sit and Go-tournaments
    35/130 Multi-table Tournaments
    0/5 final tables in MTT's
    $199/$3,000 total profit

    Bankroll: $1152

My advice is just use solid bankroll management, like you are doing. Sounds like you are a good player welcome to the site!

    Thanks!

Got bored and wasn't tilted any more and too alert for sleep so I decided to try some NL50 SH at iPoker. Maybe it's something I should do more often? Updating the result in today's summary.

Now I remember why I stopped playing NL50.

$500 down today at NL50. No more cashgame for me in a couple of weeks or so. lol

Wednesday was really awful. Think I lost about $450. But yesterday was much better.

I finished 4th in a $22 freezeout at Prima which gave me $651. I later that day played som NL50 again at iPoker, this time really concentrated and without any tilt. The day ended up around +$700

Today I got some rakeback money, about $500. Very appreciated right now!!

Don't gonna make any big updates for the blog right now. Tonight I'm taking a day off for some homegame and of course alot of beer.

    Cheers.

Played some online today anyway. Got busted after losing 800bb in the live-game so decided to take it back online. Won $230 in 1.5h at 6-tabling NL50. My BR is starting to get more stable now as you can see.

Gonna get serious with the updates again soon I think. But I have noticed that I tend to be "too" serious with my playing while blogging which makes me getting tired of it after a couple of weeks. So I think I don't gonna have so strict rules to follow in the future. Just use common sence.

You're gigantic losing sessions makes me think you may tilt huge and not know it.

I've only been tilting big once since I started this blog. That was while playing 12 tables NL50. It was really stupid and hopefully it won't happen again. I think I have found the reasons for my tilting and big losing sessions now. One of the them is that I played to many tables at the same time and expected to win too fast. Now I only play 4-6 tables and think that's every session that I end up winning is a good session. No matter how much I win.

Today when I played live I wasn't tilting even if I lost 800bb. I was just drunk like my friends and we played Pot Limit Omaha with five cards and two flops which made big variations in the game and most of the pots got really huge.

From now on the goal is to play NL50 and $22 SnG's mixed up with some MTT's, up to $20 freezeouts and $10 rebuys, until my bankroll is at $4,000. Then I will start playing mostly NL100 and MTT's up to $50 freezeouts and $20 rebuys.

You seem to be making huge cashes in MTT's so I'd concntrate on those and not play any cash for a while.
Obviously the sit and go's will be really useful for grinding up and you should be able to avoid the big losses that can send you on tilt.

I've been running pretty good at NL50 since I had my madtilt five days ago losing 10 buy-ins. So I think I gonna play monstly cashgames for a while until I got a more stabil bankroll. For then taking up the MTT-grind again. SnG's is boring so I don't think I will play that so much from now.

Graph over the last days at NL50:

I guess it's time for an update here. Havent wrote anything cause it haven't been so much writing about. Have mostly been playing NL50 the last days with good profit. Played some donkaments (MTT's) at Stars and Full Tilt as well which as you already know is impossible to win.

Bankroll is at about $2K right now. Made a withdrawal this week because I had to pay some bills and did not wanna take off my savings so decided to take some money from the poker as it have goon so well lately.

Heres a graph for my NL50-grind so far this month. Gonna contiune play on that level for at least one week. I think I gonna take a shot at NL100 when I got around $3K in bankroll, stoploss at $500. Sounds reasonable?

  18. #18
Still going great at NL50. Got some rakeback today plus another good day at the tables. BR is now at $2693. Probably taking a shot att NL100 on Monday if I have a winning day tomorrow too.
  19. #19
It's not called taking a shot when you are rolled for the level. Give 'er a shot dude, just table select well.
  20. #20
Playing some NL100 now and are down $425 after 503 hands. Gonna play 'til I'm down $500 then go down to NL50 again. Otherwise I continue at this level of course. Really sick beats I'm getting now.
  21. #21
Sessionen ended $441 down. Gonna start with NL100 tomorrow and see how it goes. Maybe I do four tables NL50 and two tables NL100, we'll see.
  22. #22
Reached stoploss after 800 hands. Now I gonna play NL50 'til I've won $500 for then try NL100 again. Hopefully it won't take too long before I'm up again.

lol, then i would ruin my image totally here at the forum.

There isn't much talking about. Guess I overplayed some of the hands. But it was just a sick session. Played against donks only.

No big suckouts really. Two KK against AA all-in preflop. One all-in call with QQ against a donkey who was on a monkeytilt openpushing every hand preflop. Obviosuly he drawed me out with his AJ, lol. Then I had one AK which i 3-betted preflop and got all-in at KXX flop against a slowplayed KK. Rest of the hands were just bad timing, in my oppinion. Maybe I had too wide 3-bet range and then cbetted at flops I shouldn't had. But what to do against 40/10/1-donkeys, seriously.

If you wan't some funny hands I can post some from my NL50-grind. There are many players there who got no fucking idea what they are doing while playing.
  25. #25
Yesterday I lost around 350-ish. Took back some on NL50 after the NL100 disaster.

Today I have been playing some satellites for Sunday Million at PokerStars. I won one of these and also came 8th in a $33 freezeout which gave me ~$400. Gonna play some big tourneys tonight. The one's that's in the schedule so far is these ones:

    18:45 - Sunday Warm-Up $400K Guaranteed (PokerStars) - $215 buy-in
    21:30 - Sunday Hundred Grand - $11 buy-in
    22:00 - Mansion $100K Guaranteed (staked 50/50-deal) nick: DonkMeNot - $100 buy-in
    22:30 - Sunday Million (staked 50/50-deal) - $215 buy-in

    Timestamps is in GMT+2.

Maybe I play Second Chance at Stars and Mulligan at FTP too. Not sure yet. I'm interested in playing Prima's $200K $60+R ass well. We'll see about those tourneys later.

I will make a big update checking up what the bankroll is at after the week-end. Feels like I got money everywhere right now.

Now I'm gonna sleep some hours before the tourneys are starting. Good luck to you all who also are playing the big one's tonight!

    TIIIIIIIILTTTTTTTTTT.............................. .

Was top 30 with 160 ppl left in Sunday Warmup at JokerStars. Then I get these two hands in a row and I'm like busto. Sigh. Would've been 2nd chipleader if both would have hold up. Two 3-outers in a row... omfg

But my tournament day isn't over yet. I'm 20/183 in Mansion $100K, 63 ITM. Gonna start up some other tourneys soon as well.

    JokerStars:

It's going really well in The Sunday Mulligan att Full Tilt. I'm at 7th place with 41 people left. The winner take's $37,680. Guaranteed $471 now.
  29. #29
Busted now at 36th place. Raised TT from cut off and a pretty solid guy 3-bets me small from the button. He covers my 30bb-stack. Pushed back against him after thinking for a while. He had 3-betted me frequently lately when I've tried to take blinds so I really had to push there and stand my point showing that he cant do what he want at the table. He called with KK and knocked me out.

I got $549.50 for that 36th place. Think I'm up around $750 totally today's in MTT's. Even though I haven't made a ny big cashes really and played a lot of expensive tourneys.

Very well. I'm gonna check the bankroll tomorrow and see where I am now. Probably I'm gonna continue play NL50 for a while. Wan't to win back that $500 I lost at NL100 before taking a step up again. Think I have like $350 to go.
  30. #30
Bankroll at $3040. Will play NL100. Going down to NL50 again if bankroll drops to $2500. Maybe I will start play more MTT's as well. Think I'm playing well in them right now.

This crazy variance that you seem to be experiencing might be due to some leaks. Post some cashgame hands! Remember, 10k hands isn't really enough to properly establish whether or not you're a winning player.

Ya I'm post some hands for sure now when there's people asking for that . I'm not sure if I'm gonna play anything today. I didn't sleep for like 30hrs and today I've slept 13hrs some I'm very exhausted right now. But there will be some hand historys for you to comment very soon.

It's unbeliavable how I can be so run bad in tournaments. Maybe I should stop playing them at all? So sick variance. SICK SICK SICK SICK

lol sry guys, didnt have any intereseting hands from this session

I'm not sure if I'm gonna play any more cashgames today. I went to bed like 7.00 this morning and woke up around 10 thinking it was late evening but had only slept 3hrs. Was not tired then but I'm starting to feel it now. Plus the games is not so juicy on the evenings. Maybe I'll just play some MTT's tonight.

    Some hands from todays NL100-session:

#1: Very strange hand. I take the preflop call because I am pretty sure that he got a big hand that he pays me off with if I hit my set after doing a limpminreraise. Thats most of the time a sign of strength. At the flop I put him on aces when he does that small bet. I decide to call because the pot is so big. Then he's betting very small again on turn. I'm not sure at all what he got any more. Taking a card again to se what he does on the river. Then he checks to me??? Should I make move here or is it just stupid? I mean the pot has gone really big and I dont think I got any showdown value here at all with such a low pair. His stats is 69/17/3.38 . A big fish.

#2: This is a strange situation as well. I can't feel that any of the players are strong at the flop but I get called after my raise by the biggest fish on the table. Then he donkbets into me at turn and I like WTF??? Is he making a move or what?? I can't decide really so I decide to just call. I think he's kinda empty, could have 666, but not a boat. At least I don't think he would play it like that. Don't think I can get him off his hand so decide to see the river before stacking him off. What do u think? The guy is as I said a big fish and got the stats 28/13.5/2.25. Not donkish stats but he seems to overplay many hands and just can't fold when he should.

No interests in hand histories? Then I won't post any. Tell me what to do to make this blog more interesting!
  39. #39
    Yo!

Haven't been writing here for a while. Since my last post I've been playing mostly 12-15 tables NL100, which gone kinda well. Bankroll is up at $4,720 now (cashed out ~$800 this month) and I've just finished my second session at NL200. I'm up about $370 today and I think I'm gonna continue play some at that level. I won't make any huge sessions with loads of tables while playing there. Gonna take some sessions when the games seems juicy and focusing playing 4-6 tables.

My main game will still be NL100 and I'm thinking about go for a top position in the Rake Race which NoIQPoker got in August. The winner gets $10k, 2nd place pays $8k, 3rd $6k and so on. I will also get a nice personal deal by my affiliate if I decide to go for the race which will give me a much higher rakeback % then I got right now. I just hope I will get the time I need to commit for that race next month. Gonna start school around 23th and hopefully move out to an own appartment so that will take a lot of time. But we'll see about that!

I'm putting upp some new bankroll rules now when I've started playing NL200 as I'm not rolled for that level yet. I'm just bored playing NL100 and really think I can beat the NL200-games without any big problems so that's why I'm taking a shot now. Just need to have some strict rules to follow and here they are:
    • ¤ Stoploss at $600 every playing day
¤ Stop play NL200 if bankroll drops under $4K
¤ Don't play more then MAXIMUM 8 tables simultaneously
¤ Always use GameTime+ or PA HUD for overlay tablestats while playing

I'm also gonna start posting more hand histories here. I've seen that there are many here playing the same stakes as me and getting some nice discussions in the other threads. Hope your interested in helping me as well!

Don't have any goals for the rest of the month. Hope I can put much of my time on NL200 and become a regular there before next month. Then I'll decide if I'm gonna go for that race or not and put up some new goals. The goal for this month was getting a roll for NL100 and starting play regulary over there. Now it gone much better then I've thought and my goal was to start playing NL200 in September and now I'm already there. Hope I can double my profit from this month in August. I guess that won't be a too high goal as I will play a lot next month, hopefully around 120-150K hands.

I've been having a great start at NL200. Won ~$800 yesterday and today I'm up around $500 so far. Here you got some stats from PT:

The last session had a lot of action and a bunch of hands that I hope you will think are interesting enough to give me some input about 'em.

#1: cozanostra is a LAG-player who I think is kinda donkish, a lagtard (stats 27/24/3). I'm playing for stacks at flop but he decides to flatcall me instantaneously instead. I wan't to push all-in with my $135 that I got left in the stack when I hit my pair on turn. What do you tink?

#2: Here I'm up against cozanostra again. This is in the beginning of the session. We played some against each other last night but didn't get involved in any big pots against each others. 3-beting 88 from SB after BU raise is standard for me, especially against an aggressive player. Making a standard CB at flop, then he thinks for like a half second before he pushes me all-in. I get really confused and decide to fold after some thinking. Got no idea what he's doing here. Maybe I shouldn't CB if I fold for a raise?

I'll probably start playing there on Wednesday. I'm in no hurry to leave the games at Party but I like getting that rakeback payment every month.

And damn you're running good. I guess I'll have to avoid you at the tables.

    Okey.

Running good? Nah, not really. Made a big blowup, or what you should call it, yesterday. Here's a graph from NL200 so far this month:

I was up around $950 yesterday, before the evening. Then I thought that I had to play drunk weekend warriors, which didn't turn out so well. Went from +$950 to -$100 in one session.

But I've had a nice start at NL200 anyway. Just got some leaks that I have to take care of.

I thought that he had JT or nothing when he made that play. Maybe it was an EV+ call. But I don't think I need to make gamblecalls like that as it is enough value on the tables anyway.

    Goals for August
    ¤ Win 50 buy-ins at 200NL (including Julys result)
    ¤ Play 50'000 cashgame hands
¤ Take some shots at 400NL when BR is over $12K to start feeling how the games are
¤ Make a total profit of at least $10K in the cashgames

I won't go for a top place in NoiQ's rake race this month. The main goal is to beat 200NL real hard and hopefully take some shots at 400NL so that I can start move up in level next month. But before I can do that I have to win a total of 50 buy-ins at 200NL. I'm gonna count all the playing in July which means that I have 37 buy-ins left to take from that level.
  55. #55
Good luck. I'm sure I'll donk off a couple stacks your way in August.

Long pokerday today. I played a lot, and lost a lot. Too tired to write now but I think I would have gone at least breakeven today if I didn't play so bad in many pots. Really glad that I get the weekly rakeback payment tomorrow.

I only just realised that your screename on Full Tilt is really familiar to me?? I have either seen you in a Cardrunners video or have played with you on the same table in a MTT? Hope I can remember.

Anyway, it seems you are running hot in iPoker. I have never played there again after loosing 3 buy-ins in less than 100 hands when opposition hit their 3-outer. This place is surely rigged

Hope i have got right numbers...

U have 168 to call into pot which will be 395 which is 0.42

    from pokerstove:
his range is QQ+,AKs,AKo then u have 0.41 equity EV---
KK+ ur equity is only 0.23 EV---
    77+,AKs,AKo then u have 0.46 EV+++
    77+,AQs+,AQo+ 0.5 EV+++

so depends on read of that player and the situation between u two.
    were u 3-betting him much ?

i'm just trying to understand these equity things so i hope i got the numbers good

I don't really wanna start talking about my range in this situation. But I think it's cool anyway as I don't think there are so many players here at FTR which I'm playing against.

I often make 4-bet all-ins OOP. Sometimes I mix 'em up with smaller 4-bets, but I don't think it's so necessery. Why do I do this? It's simple, I often got a hand that I wan't to be guaranteed to see all the cards at the board with. AK suited is one of this hands. It's very diffucult to call an 3-bet OOP and then play it on the flop with hands you have to hit with.

I don't thin my range in just this particular situation is so wide. "I Like Pie" have been playing very tight and solid when I've met him. But against looser players who often makes 3-bets IP pre-flop I got a much wider 4-bet range, just because I wan't to put pressure. Hands that I can push all-in with is suited aces and low suited connectors, they are wonderful. Then those times when I well get called I'm not that much behind. And of course, my image get's better against these player and I think that I can make a nice profit against other loose players that think I'm a maniac.

As I'm from Sweden, my english is not at the top. I could go much deeper in this discussion but I must admit that I'm bad at puting my thoughts in words. Just remember to use this play cautiously. I don't think you will have to widden your 3/4-bet-ranges so much before you get up at 400NL and above. But sometimes there are tough games at 200NL as well, with a lot of meta games and 3-beting preflop. Then it's good to know this concept.

Always have a plan when you make a 4-bet or calling a 3-bet preflop. You should never make one of these plays for then puting yourself in a tough situation where you don't know what to do. When you well come to the flop you should have range of hands where you put your opponent and already know what to do in all situations.

Edit: Realized now after have been writing all this that I didn't understand your post . But I hope it was helpful anyway. I will let I Like Pie to make a comment why he was thinking about calling with QQ. Obviously I got a loose image.

I'd say at the biggest range it would be JJ+, AK
But I wasn't playing loose and wasn't 3-betting that much and I knew that he knew that so I really thought him shoving there was KK+, I'd be lucky to call and see AK and then I still have to win the flip
I was close to calling until after I saw it was him that pushed. I getting was beating up bad at the tables at that time by the fish at iPoker and i was pretty frustrated, but for the reasons above I folded. If it was the common iPoker fish running 40/10 I'd instacall there.

Yeah, I can say honestly that my range for 4-beting here was QQ+/AK. Maybe I would make a call with lower pairs or AQ suited. You have been playing really tight when I've had you at my tables. I got you at this stats: 12/9.6/12.5.

Are you playing this tight at other tables as well? You really need to loosen up then! There are to many nits at 200NL already and I can't see that no-one of them are making any big money. I neither can see them at higher levels in the future playing like that. Maybe they got rolled for it some time. But they are really playing bad. Tight ABC-poker, not learning the game at all . For myself I'm playing a mix of LAG/TAG-poker now. I got some big leaks as I'm still trying to adjust to this aggressive style of playing. But I think that I learn much much more then the tight ABC-grinders. Hopefully I will find some great results at the midstakes soon.

Over a larger size it looks like I play 17/13/3.5
I've played 200NL for about 4 weeks now and I'd say there are still a lot of fish out there and you don't even have to play that loose to win money.
I play 8 tables and have my stats on each on with my HUD. I'll see a table sometimes where I'm running like 10/10 after like 50 hands for whatever reason so I start raising any two from the CO or OTB just to show the people I'm alive.

Glad to hear that . What are you playing for stakes youself?

    ---

August started terrible. But tonight I found some drunk fishies who was glad to give me back some of my money that I lost before. Here's a graph for this month so far. Guess if I'm feeling relieved now or not.

I haven't been posting any hand histories here for a while. When I did it before I didn't get so much input as I would like. So now I ask again, is there any intereset in hand histories? Otherwise I just go for the result updating and make this to a operation blog only. Maybe you prefer me puting the hand histories in the hand history forum?

I watch ur blog and i would like to see some interesting situations/hands but those would be nice if you give some commentary about them, why you did this and not that.. yea that would be great. also not just great hands, also those where u played bad,or tough spots, at least i wonder about those too.
