    Default Operation: Back on Track

I'm back again to have yet another attempt at this facking game. I didn't stop playing, I just stopped posting/studying/learning/improving/winning.

I seem to have a problem when it comes to committing to any sort of long term studying of the game and as a result I just end up autopiloting. This is something that I will put right in 2010. I was asked earlier today if I had any goals for 2010, to which I answered, "try and actually learn. anything else is a bonus". So I guess thats my main aim for the next year.

In terms of 2009, I did alright I guess. Not disasterous, not amazing. Definately huge huge room for improvement in all areas.

Aside from poker, I am going to make some changes to my life in general. First of all, I need to get into shape. This is the standard post Christmas realisation that I can no longer eat what I want, when I want without putting on a lot of weight. I'm either going to join a local gym or go running + buy some weights or something along those lines. I live in a rural area so I have no excuse to not go running around where I live.

I also need to become far more pro-active with regards to my employment. After I finished University I registered on a "learn from home" diploma in fitness and nutrition which I've just sort of put aside. This really needs finishing and it shouldn't take me too long, I'm just being lazy with it. Now that Christmas has past I'm no longer guaranteed much work at the restaurant I work at due to it being much quieter so therefore I need to actually start hunting round for work, rather than waiting to stumble across an opportunity.

With regards to a possible future in physiotherapy (if you read my old blog then there is a slim chance you might remember me saying thats what I intended to do) I have been on one work experience day so far and really enjoyed it. I have arranged more work experience at a local hospital which starts Monday 4th January and hopefully I'll be able to get in each Monday + Wednesday. As far as I know there are 6 universities in England that offer the PostGraduate MSc in Physiotherapy (Pre-Registration) course I would like to get onto. In January I will apply to them all.

Thats enough for now. In fact its probably too much for now, but its good to get things written down. Thing is though, I've written it all down before. This time, I'm going to do it.

LOL @ getting pwned playing 2NL and 5NL! HaHaHaHaHaHaHa...

And then pwning higher stakes......wtf? GL, Sir.
  5. #5
2nl and 5nl is normally with ftr players - and its kinda fun to just relentlessly spew. especially when a buy-in at those steaks is the equivalent of a pfr at your normal stake.

So my plan for January 2010.

    Play 50nl FR.
    Play 25nl 6m.

I think I should realistically be looking to play upwards of 25k hands per month. I don't know if I'll split it 50/50 between the two games or focus on one more than the other. I've essentially always played full ring - but am aware that learning 6max would be really beneficial.

I need to become more involved in and around FTR - my guess is I'm a name some people might recognise, but that nobody actually knows me.

You're right! But then again I don't really know anyone anymore, so I think I need to start being more involved around here too

    Gl with your operation!

So I suck at updating. Here is where I'm at now:

    1. 26.8k of 50nl FR @ 9.96bb/100
    2. 2.5k of 25nl 6max @ 4.31bb/100

My BR hit $3k so I'm gonna move back up to 100nl FR for the time being. Ill move back down if my BR hits $2.5k. I've cleared $150 in reload bonus and $100 in stellar rewards. I need 2.5k more vpps this month to keep nova and I fully intend on doing so.

Aside from poker, my getting into shape plan is actually going well so far. I joined a gym with a mate of mine and we go 3 days / week at the minute so thats good. I'm yet to apply to Uni because I want a bit more experience in the bag before I send off my application so it looks better - although I intend on applying pretty soon. The course I'm on at the minute is still being put aside at all costs. I'm not using FTR enough, or at all even.

Bit of a manic update, basically, some things going well, some things not. Standard. Hands to come.

Oh, I'm also working on a roulette system that is going to allow me to basically print money. . . . . . . . GAMBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.

Get your ass to posting obviously, even though I've been autopiloting like a mofo as well. Glad to see you're pseudo back tho!

    January Results

    +250 bonuses
    +1500 online slots (lolol)

= $3364.65 or £2018.79 ish in real money.

Can't complain about the end result. But towards the end of the month my play at 100nl was pretty appalling tbh. I was more concerned about keeping supernova, which I did, but that has to stop this month. Ive played a couple of sessions today just 6 tabling as opposed to 12-18 tabling. I'll have to see how it goes, because I've been bored out of my mind. Also, Stars needs to up their min BI, because its such a sausage fest out there now (sausage = shortstack ldo).

    February Goals:

    1. Play at least 30k hands at 100nl FR.
    2. Maintain SuperNova VIP Status.
    3. Clear $1500 bonus.
    4. Apply to Universities.
    5. Complete AT LEAST one more assignment.
    6. Keep up the gym routine (which I'm currently really enjoying).
    7. Post a hand on FTR.
    8. Update my blog.
    9. Ball outta control next week visiting Birmingham.
    10. Ball outta control in London for gf's 21st.

So my tilt problems are costing me this month. I'm just playing atrociously almost non-stop because i can't focus on anything except the shortest of short term results. I check my HEM/BR etc every 5 minutes dispite knowing that it's going to greatly affect how I play. I guess for me, the most worrying thing is that I'm not only tilting due to bad beats / coolers, but it also creeps in when things are going my way. Example - Yesterday:

This post may seem like it serves little purpose, but I felt it was necessary to write this down. I'll have a read around and try to find some pointers in the right direction. Any thoughts/ideas welcome.

Take out the Amount Won tab in your HEM reports, don't check your HEM at all, just open it up to turn on Auto Import before your session, and afterwards shut it down without looking at results. Repeat for a week and you will be surprised at how much better you feel. Pretty often you'll have a nice surprise when you finally do look.

I was halfway through a tl;dr "month so far" report before firefox fucked me over. Basically, since my last post I've played like 2k BE. I'm gonna lose nova this month because I've been busy partying irl. Last Thursday was one of the best days I've ever had but you can thank firefox for fucking up my trip report!!
  21. #21
Aww, want to hear trip report plx.

    HAI GAIS!!!!!

I've decided it's about time to write the trip report I mentioned 2 months ago.

A mate of mine, from here on known as Sharky, is at Manchester University studying Chemical Engineering. Every year all the Chemical Engineering departments at the majority of UK Universities take part in a massive sports day / piss up called Frank Morton. Sharky had been meaning to invite me and another mate, Jonny, over to Manchester for some time, and without realising invited us over the same weekend as Frank Morton. Once he realised he somehow managed to get me and Jonny onto the "list" of people going, despite the fact that neither of us did chemical engineering or went to Manchester Uni in the first place. Frank Morton was being held at Birmingham Uni, and Manchester Uni was putting a few coaches on to take us there at 6am on Saturday morning.

I arrive in Manchester at 5pm on Friday evening, meet Sharky at the station and we're just about to go back to his when Jonny rings and says he'll be at the station in an hour. Sharky and I figure we'll just go to a bar in the station whilst waiting for him, have a few pints and a couple of games of pool. When Jonny arrives he decides he'd like a couple of pints so we stay in the bar for a couple of hours before going for dinner. On the way back to Sharky's house, we stop off to pick up supplies for the next day, which for me and Jonny consisted of 8 cans of Fosters each and a bottle of vodka. We get back to Sharky's at about 8pm and play a little xbox before him and his housemates (AJ, Nick, Robbie) go to bed around 10pm because we have to be up at 5am to get the coach to Birmingham. Me and Jonny figure we'll play a little more xbox then go to bed, as we're sleeping in the living room anyway.

So its 3:30am, neither me nor Jonny have any Fosters left and we've polished off the vodka thanks to a lot of drinking FIFA, we're absolutely trashed and have to be up in an hour and a half. It seems like a good time to get some sleep.

5am comes and we get up, I'm still absolutely smashed and spend a good 40 minutes walking round Sharky's house naked after a shower which his housemates don't really understand, but fuck them I'd forgotten a towel so I was drip drying. We get a taxi to the Student Union where the coach is waiting and we snap sit on the back seat like the cool kids. Plenty of people pile on, all looking tired and they promptly fall asleep. Me, Jonny, Sharky, Nick, AJ and Robbie crack open a few beers and drink our way to Birmingham. We finally get there about 9:30am, me and Jonny are obviously still hammered.

We have to sign in, and as we do so we get given a "goodie bag" which contained a few shitty bits, but also had a Manchester Uni ChemEng T-Shirt and some flashing pink fairy wings. Naturally the t shirt and wings go straight on. Sharky and his housemates are all taking part in a 5 a side football tournament, so we find out where that's being held and we rock up to the pitches getting funny looks from every other team when they see us and our wings. The first match kicked off at 10:30am, and since Jonny and I aren't playing we decide that its beer o'clock (there was a toilet stop on the journey at a service station, which we had cleverly used to pick up 24 beers).

Theres not really much to say regarding the afternoon. The football tournament was on, Jonny and I drank relentlessly and hurled abuse at all the other teams. There is some sort of major rivalry between Manchester University and Imperial College London, and we were all singing a song that went as follows:

If I had the wings of a sparrow
The great dirty arse of a crow
    I'd fly over Imperial tomorrow
And shit on the bastards below

    Shit on
    Shit on
    Shit on the bastards below
    BELOW!

    Shit on
    Shit on
    Shit on the bastards below.

Imperial don't like the song, but lets face it, its a classic. So once the sports day is over and done with its off to the Student Union so people can start drinking. By now its around 5pm and Sharky's housemates are pretty surprised Jonny and I are still standing given that we havn't done anything except drink since about 6am. There's all sorts of sing offs between different Uni's whilst we're in the union and then we all get told that there are coaches outside to take us into Birmingham city centre.

Now its made apparent that each Uni has its own coaches, and that we all need to listen out for when its our Uni's turn to leave. So of course Jonny and I head straight out to get on the first coach regardless, which we're the first people on so we head up to the top deack and sit proudly at the front. The coach fills up, we havn't got a clue which Uni its actually for until a few people come upstairs wearing hoodies displaying "Imperial College London".

Obviously the intelligent thing to do at this time is stand up, turn around, and launch full volume into "If I had the wings of a sparrow. . ." which is greated by all manner of insults, although admittedly everyone thought it was pretty funny that the two of us were quite happy singing the song to a bus full of people.

The bus takes us to Walkabout where we drink more then decide its time to hit the dancefloor once we've managed to meet up with Sharky and his housemates again. Jonny and I are rocking it on a podium when a couple of FIT girls join us, before telling us that if we get with each other they will. Naturally I'm then tonguing Jonny, and then these girls go at it for ages which was just awesome.

After Walkabout we all head to Gatecrasher which has been hired out exclusively for Frank Morton, so its just full of ChemEng students from all over the place. Pretty standard nightclub drinking ensues - plenty of shots, shorts, bottles. Highlight of Gatecrasher was definately being on the dancefloor with some random girl on my shoulders at which point Sharky decides now is the time to rugby tackle me. We get bollocked by a bouncer but he doesn't chuck us out which is cool.

I dont know how I managed to lose everyone I was with, but I get a phone call at 2am from Jonny telling me I need to get out quickly because everyone is on the coach ready to go back to Manchester and they wont wait for me much longer. So i rush outside and get on the coach expecting abuse from everyone but they're pretty much all asleep. Me, Jonny, Sharky and his housemates, all of us absolutely beyond destroyed, start singing a variety of songs throughout the journey back and dicking about which no one apart from us finds funny, before we get back to Manchester at about 5:30am. We get back to Sharky's and collapse.

Jonny and I have to catch a train home at 9:30am, and without a doubt, that was literally the worst journey of my life. Although missing a train on purpose and therefore delaying our jouney by 2 hours just so we could hit up Burger King was a great decision.

tl;dr I know. But shit it was an awesome day!!

hahaha i enjoyed that story. sounds like a pretty fun kind of a 24 hrs too. i must admit i was surprised it didnt end in "...the next thing i remember i woke up naked in a bed next to some god-ugly female in a house i did not recognise. johnny was naked on the floor next to us with a female i could only assume was an acquaintance of my unknown bed-partner..." and so and and so forth

The past 2 months have been pretty shitty for me pokerwise, I don't see the point in posting graphs or stats but basically my volume and play have both pretty much sucked. I cleared a $1500 bonus so that kept me going last month and keeps me rolled for 100NL FR which is the stake at which I feel I should be. So here are my goals for May 2010:

    1. Play at least 25k hands of 100NL FR (9-12 tabling)
    2. Watch at least 3 DC vids per week
    3. Post at least 5 hands per week
    4. Win shit loads of SCOOP events

The only major IRL news I have is that me and my gf broke up at the start of last month. It was my decision so I'm alright with it but it was tough because it was just a few days before we'd have been together 4 years. Anyway, we're hopeful that we'll still be friends.

I still go on far too many nights out and spend far too much money on drink but I'm still gyming it 3 times/week so I don't feel so bad about it. I'm also contemplating taking up rugby for a local club. I've never really played before but a few mates who do play say that at 6ft5 and 205lbs all I'd really have to do is run into people. Sounds fun enough to me.
  26. #26
Hahaha sil. Yes, join the rugby club man. It'll probably suck at first cuz you won't know what you're doing, but I guarantee with your body size/type you'll end up wtfpwning in less than a month of practice. Sucks about the gf, but its good you guys are working towards being friends.

GET YO ASS ON TEH GRIND! Are you still a bartender?
  27. #27
Yeah I'm still a part-time barman at my mates restaurant. I quite enjoy it to be honest - a few of the waitresses are FIT and I get on with all the staff. I've managed to get one of the hotties in bed a few times and only after the third time did she tell me shes seeing someone. Good times.

So I guess I should count this as being the end of the first week in May? In which case I thought I'd throw out a little update. Month has started really well, I've been 9 tabling 100NL FR and have played 7.1k hands in just under 12 hours. I've easily got more time available in the week to play so I may look to step the volume up a bit. I may also switch to 12 tabling soon as I've been getting quite bored in my recent sessions. Guess thats what happens when you aimlessly 24 table for a prolonged period then drop down.

As far as posting hands goes, I think I may need to change my tactics a little and make a note of hands as they happen. I've just been through HEM looking for interesting spots and its just a shit way of doing it IMO. I may dig one or two up later on. With regards to DC vids, I've watched one this week - but I'm staying in this evening so hopefully I'll get a chance to watch at least one more. I'm thinking I might check out Tommy Angelo's vids.

What works for me is that I just increase the number of things I try to pay attention to. Making lots of mental notes and looking at all the relevant stats and reading the playernotes every hand.
If that fails, I increase the number of things I do on the side
But I honestly think that's better for me than adding more tables.
  30. #30
Yeah thats probably a good suggestion oskar. I havn't actually 12 tabled yet which is mainly due to me being in IRC more often and talking in there.

So predictably I havn't stuck to the watching videos / posting hands idea, but w/e I'm putting in decent volume for me and mostly if I look back over a couple of "problem hands" I can see what I should have done different. Obviously if I come across a situation in which I'm completely stumped then I'll post that mother.

My BR hit $6k recently so over the last few days I've been playing the odd table of 200nl FR if it looks like a good game. Today I played my first session on purely 200NL FR - 570ish hands 6 tabling. I ran hotter than the sun which was nice, and I was surprised to see so many players who I'm already pretty familiar with from 100NL up there. Must be pretty standard to play 100nl and 200nl FR? I don't intend on moving up just yet, but I'll throw in the odd session here and there when it looks friendly.

Here is my graph of this month so far:

So poker is going well at the minute, and with the work I do as a barman I'm bringing in a decent amount. When you consider that my outgoings per month consist of a £15 phone bill and around £40 on petrol then it all seems rather good.

IRL stuff - party too much. love it.
