    Default Operation BAR

Thats Build A 'Roll by the way.

So ok some of you dont know my history. I started way back when with $50 at the 0.05/.10 LHE FR tables. Few months later I had enough to move to .5/1 LHE. I did so, and quit my day-job (I worked the concessions at Regal Theaters for $6/hour. No big loss.) and continued up the ladder. Soon I moved to 5/10 FR and had decent success.

Then I made the jump to 6max LHE and survived there living off rakeback and profit for several months just spinning my wheels. At one point I hit 10/20 and was raking in the cash, but it didn't last. The Peter Principle took over, and I just couldn't succeed anymore.

So I tried to prop over at the Crypto sites. 100% rakeback + profits, sounds great I'm in. Well, I got decimated. Abso-fuckin-lutely destroyed at their sixhanded game. Call it variance, call it bad play, call it tilt, whatever you call it, even with 3k a week checks in rakeback, I lost a LOT.

    Pride comes before the fall.

That was Julyish of this year. And since then I've played precious little poker -- that kind of losing took my confidence and threw it out the window. And because I was still living off my roll but not playing enough to sustain it, the roll shrank significantly. Really, REALLY significantly.

So here I sit, coming up on December first, with a little over $500 left online, and thankfully some in the bank account that I'd miraculously saved for a rainy day (and its fucking pouring over here.) but that I refuse to refund my bankroll with. If I lose this $500, I get a job and rebuild from there. But I won't have to worry about that.

So yes, mr Blingy Bling Bling LHE Pro is almost busto and has switched to half-stacking 25NL.

People ask me why I just dont buy in full. Well, here's why.

    A) Confidence
    B) Saves me from my ultimate fear -- AI and bad beated
    C) Magnifies my opponents mistakes
c1) They call with all sorts of draws getting massive 2:1 odds.
c2) They call my all ins with top pair no kicker religiously.
    D) Its fun and low stress.

So ok Euph, whats your goal for the operation?
I want to have 2k in my bankroll by Christmas morning. I'm currently around $500, so call it $1500 by December 25th. That gives me essentially 24 days. I need to average $62.5 a day. That aint gonna be easy. Thats 2.5buyins a day, 6.5 half-stack-doubleups.

How am I going to do this? I'm going to be obscenely tight, and convince my opponents to make big mistakes. Due to my stack size, I have to play purely big-pot poker. Get a better than average hand, and do everything possible to get my chips in the middle. That means I'm going to be very very tight, and obscenely aggressive.

    So here's my journal.

    Wish me luck.

That's gonna be a lot of poker per day. I'm assuming you have a lot of hours to play right now?

Where are you playing right now?

Good luck euph, keep us updated

You know I am rooting for ya, euph. I'm not questioning your ability but at these stakes that goal in that amount of time may be hard. Variance sucks...

Anyways, I'll stay out of your tables for sure and will ask from time to time to see how you are.

    Day 1 & 2

I'll say the operation officially started yesterday, since thats when I really started getting to it. In two days, I've played over 7,000 hands of poker and made ... about $100. I ain't running good, to say the least.

    Lets go to the graphic.

Someone see something wrong? Namely that in 7,000 hands I've gotten 6 flushes to showdown, and lost 2 of them? Yowch! And thats not even me hitting them after I fold, or not drawing to them -- look at all those zeros. If I had played every hand I was ever dealt in the last 7,000 hands all the way to showdown, I would have made exactly 6 flushes and lost two.

So I'm missing a good.. fuck.. $60-70 worth of flushes? Its hard for me to say because when shortstacking I can't draw a whole lot. So it'd have to be things like top pair + FD for me to go for them. I'll need another several thousand hands to really know. One pair and Two Pair and 3oAK are supposed to be my bread and butter, but you can see my one pair aint doin so hot (but I'd bet thats me doing stupid things more than anything else) 3oAK is just running poorly. 54% w$@sd seems pretty low.

So yeah, all said I'm doing alright. Variance is trying its best to keep me down, but I'm (barely) keeping above water. As of right now, I'm averaging a massive $6 or $7/hour. Not all that hot, but it'll improve. I'm still missing something in my game (besides flushes), and I'm worried it might be my BB. I'm losing -.25bb/hand there and while I'm not sure what "normal" is for NL, if this was LHE that BB would be abso-fuckin-lutely killing me.

Alright, I'm mostly done for the day. Played for 6.72 hours. Might play a little later as it gets into evening/night hours because I have nothing better to do.

Yeah, that was a fun 1,000 hands. I'm sure starting off my operation with a bang. The silver lining to this whole mess is that if I was full stacked, I would be really, really, REALLY down. Ever get the feeling that the poker world is sending you signals screaming, "Stop playing dude, just give up." Yeah, me too.

Anyway, time for a break. I'll try and play later.

    Day 3, session 2

Got back to the grind, and 2.2k hands later I've pulled $40 profit out of my ass. All things considered, thats pretty fucking good. I'm still running horribly. Lots of 2 and 5 outters -- but nothing I can do about them. Bring em on, math can't be rigged forever.

In other news, I FLOPPED A FLUSH AND WON A HALF-STACK!!!! That brings my total over 9.2k hands to 9 flushes, and I won 6 of those! (Those are sarcastic smilies. That shit is Lame-O.)

Um. So yeah, profit is coming slow. I'm averaging a little over $5/hour which is just crap, but it'll come up when the math evens out. Atleast it's profit. It might take me a goddamned decade, but I'll get there. Today is Dec 1st, that gives me 24 days. Good luck.

Jealous of my winrate, aren't you?

Thanks for the good wishes Fish. You make some good points. I'm at 10k hands and not bored yet (actually this blog-lite thing has motivated me a bit more. Its all in public now, and I've always had a "writer" streak in me...) Also, everyone things half-stacking is bullshit, but I'm not sure I agree and a lot of me wants to prove my methods. We'll see. I'm profiting, so thats a good start. But pride came before my last fall too.

Look at it this way, even with me running pretty poorly right now, I'm doing just about the exact same hourly rate buying in $10 at 25NL as I would if I was fullstacking 10NL. So think of it this way, I'm playing 10NL against people who are less likely to give me credit for a hand than usual. That can't be a particularly bad thing.

In other news, I've run into some updating problems in that I often play from my girlfriends place on my laptop. Therefore I have some hands there that I dont have on my PC where I play the bulk. And I've made some good money on the laptop (just cracked aces twice in about 4 hands)... AND coming december 10th I'll be playing almost exclusively on the laptop until Jan 10thish as I'm going "home" for winter break.

Soooo... I guess I should do a running bankroll tally to keep it all together. Well, I wont do the whole bankroll, I'll do what I have on stars.

So I started with 200 on stars.

    Current Stars Roll:$363.
    Running Profit since 11/29: $163

    Thanks leg

    Day 4

Well, Its 10:15AM, and the plan for the day is to take my girlfriends roomate and a bunch of our friends out so some park for her (the roomates) birthday. So yeah thats going to cut in to poker time.

In other non-related news, I went out to dinner for same roomate's birthday party last night and went to buy her dinner -- and my card was declined. See, I'm not THAT poor, there was plenty of money in the account. So I borrowed some money from a buddy to pay and called my bank. They put me in touch with a supervisor who essentially told me, "Yeah, we turned your card off... umm I don't really know why it was turned off. It doesnt say. Its back on now, sorry about that." She did mention that it could have been because of some strange transaction (like overseas?) but I haven't done a neteller transfer in a few months.

    Just struck me as odd.

    Day 4 part deuce

Well, technically day 5, since its 3:30 AM. I have some awesome news. I did a casino bonus promotion thanks to mr Spoonitall, deposited $100 into Vegas Casino Online, played blackjack and cleared their bonus.. AND made more profit on top of that.

I just turned my $100 bonus into $583, for a quick $483 profit in about three hours.

YEEEEEHAW, that practically doubled my bankroll!!!

I'm cashing out the $483 profit right now, leaving $100 in the account. Then in about a week I'll make a "showing" of playing on the last $100 and cashing that out. That way they wont deny my cashout on the basis of me being a bonus whore (I doubt theyd do that, but there HAVE been reports of sites doing it, so it can't hurt.)

So don't let me forget I have $100 in Vegas Casino Online.

    YEEEEEEEESSSSSSS What a fucking score!

    That brings my bankroll tooooooooo....
583+85+356 = $1,024. Alright, I need 1k more to meet my christmas morning goal. I feel great, for once, and I didn't even play poker!

I'm DEFINITELY doing more casino blackjack whoring. That was GREAT!

Nice man, looks like vegascasino takes Nevada residents, that means I'll be whoring it up there soon. What kinds of bets did you use? Did you just run ridiculously hot? Did you play 3 tables with the $2 bets like suggested?

You can only, as far as I could tell, one-table. I had about $225 total to play with after the bonus, and i did $2 bets until I hit $300. Then I switched to $3 bets. Continued there until I hit around 450ish, when I switched to $4. I never went above that, because the bonus cleared at $538ish but I was planning on moving to $5 if i hit $600.

I'm not sure if that was a smart way to do it, but it worked. I would have moved down along the same scale though, so it couldnt be too bad.

Did I run rediculously hot? Well, I guess, by definition of coming out ahead I guess I did. I played straight down the chart (although i misclicked and doubled down once when I was dealt K7... woops..) and it worked out for me.

Euph, I've seen you say this a few times in various threads when talking about playing at ~50bb deep, and was wondering if you could explain your thought process. Thanks in advance.

Have you read Sklansky's Poker Essays books? In one of them (I want to say number three, but that could be wrong...) he talks about the ideal buyin for no limit hold'em cash games being as small as the table stakes allow if and only if you can rathole it away after a win. In live play, which he was talking about, you obviously can't do that so he defaulted to "you should have everyone covered", but in online play, we CAN buy in for the minimum and rathole.

I kind of took a middle road between the two, giving me some marginal capabilities of flop play.

As for your question, which I'm aware I really haven't answered beyond "sklansky likes it", I mean maginification of mistakes in this sort of way:

Villain has some flushdraw, I have top pair. I can push, and often get called (after I set up my "I like to push, GAMBOOOL" image) Villain is often willing to put half his stack in with ~30% to win wheras he's not generally willing to put his full stack in. He's immediately taking the worst of it. But he often wouldnt do that if I was fullstacked (you might argue that some people do, but the majority of players do not. I think it is a given that people are more likely to do it against a half stack than against a fullstack).

Villain is also significantly more likely to call my push (especially after I've made a showing of playing a lot of push/fold poker on the preflop and flop rounds) with hands that I dominate significantly. Hell, look at the hand I posted above (Posted: Sat, 02 Dec 2006, 9:12pm) They dont do that fullstacked. They do do it for halfstacks if I've made a showing of doing lots of pushing.

Hence, magnifying the mistakes theyre making. Think of it another way. Whereas someone might make a loose flop call and lose a few BB planning to shutdown on the turn UI, but thinking theyll get paid if they hit against a fullstack, theyre often right. But not against me, so if they try to turn me, their loose call mistake has become significantly worse because they have no implied odds.

They also often try to bully me off my hands when they have absolutely no folding equity. If they attempted to do that with a bigstack, they might have some. But they often ignore the size of my stack, and I dont have to rope-a-dope them, they tie the noose on themselves.

    etc, etc.

So with my phenomenal success last night at the casino whore, I'm getting set to do another one. $100 deposited at Sun Palace Casino, a skin of Vegas Casino Poker that I used last night. Same bonus, Deposit $100, get $125 bonus.

Gonna play it while I drink beer and watch the dolphins. Go dolphins, go me!

Finished it with a total $177, giving me $77 profit on the day. Maybe 4 hours of work, a little slower today since I wasnt betting as big. Was stuck in the $2 range all day and ran pretty bad.

I just found this thread, and wtf i didnt know anything about this. Eupho was like the player i followed religiously when i started playing lhe.

Hope this all goes well for you, get on the casino whoring 24/7 if you can, probably pays better if your br is ~2-5k and you can spend lots of time online.

Heh, thanks miffed. Its kinda sad, ya know? I was just opening and surfing around my long-term PT stats, and I made a solid 2.1bb/100 at 5/10 LHE. In my last 100,000 hands over various limits I'd made over 10k. How far I've fallen.

Sometimes I miss LHE. Its clear to me that I was good. I was beyond good. I was very good. And I wasn't naturally good, I worked my ass off from .05/.10 and clawed 16 hour days. But I lost something. I'm not sure what it was, but I think it started with a C and rhymed with "onfidance". Its a killer.

I firmly believe that live LHE is always going to be some really really good money, and one day when my bankroll is back in good shape, I plan on taking advantage of that, if only for a break from online play, or a way to escape the rigors of the domestic life and get away for a few hours.

Yeah, I miss it. Anyway, they call that a tangent.

Thanks for those comments miffed. One day I'll get back to it, I promise. I kinda feel bad for neglecting my LHE background lately. I was really proud of my work in those forums, they made me a lot of fucking money, and I honestly feel like I owe everyone who visits them a good deal of it. And now I just read passively and feel that I have nothing to contribute, so I just look for spam and bad beats and keep it clean. I think LHE is poker in it's "purest" form. Don't ask me to explain that.

And leg, yes, you should casino whore. Theyre significantly easier to clear than poker bonuses, although slightly harder to find and slightly less profitable (youre only expected to break even on them and not really get any profit above and beyond) But very little thought is involved. Just time. Drinking beer and watching monday night football and playing blackjack is kinda nice.

Ok I'll stop rambling. I've got a final tonight and really I'm just self-handicapping here.

Well, I believe I aced my final last night, and I know I aced my final this morning (already got the grade), so all is well. Today was spent doing two casino bonuses. One "go big or go home" kinda bonus at All Jackpots casino, and one normal blackjack bonus at empirecasino.com (of empire poker fame).

I busted the go-big-or-go-home one (it takes forever to fuckin clear, so you just put it all on black and if you hit you worry about clearing and I missed). And I probably wont be doing any more of those.

    So thats -$50

But then I hit up empirecasino 100% to 100 and cleared it solidly, cashing out a profit of $103. Leaves my net for the day at +$53.

Here's something things that everyone should know about empirecasino

    A) You cant download the casino. Its a flash-based web browser casino.
    B) Here's a biggy, you need a PIN to cashout. Their website says that the pin is emailed to you. Its not. In that email it says theyre going to snail-mail it to you. I was none too pleased when I found this out.

Did ya follow that? The website says itll be in the email. But the email says itll be in the snailmail. SHAAADDDYYY.

But a quick message to the live chat guys at empirecasino and they gave me the pin with no problems. Didn't even have to bitch. So theres your heads up. LiveChat is the greatest support tool the poker/casino sites have. They're great. Way better than the phone because I can never understand the phone-supports accents.

Anyway. Let me say this, none of the casinos have paid me yet. I'm not worried, but its inconvenient. I have more bonuses to do, but I have no money to do them with. I'm dead in the water for a few days, but I guess thats OK. I'll be a little busy the next coming days anyway with going to see the space shuttle launch and packing to get up to Washington DC.

So, cheers. My next casino whore will be at a place called BeatTheDealer and it will be a blackjack bonus.

I will *eventually*, but these bonuses are such free money that I'm going to exhaust my supply of them first. There aren't a particularly huge amount of good ones for US players, so I dont think it'll take too long.

And tons of people have been telling me to take a break from poker, so this seems win-win.

I must say, Empire Casino's money has already come through. Less than 24 hours back into my neteller, by far the quickest yet.

Busy few days, sorry for lack of updates. Yesterday was spent waiting for the space shuttle launch. I was sitting on the Nasa Causway looking straight at the pad (ON Nasa Grounds, way cool!) for about 3 hours in the fucking cold wind, and it scrubbed due to weather at the last fucking minute. Then we sat in traffic for an hour to go home. Theyre supposed to try again tomorrow night, I may or may not go. Leaning toward that I will, since I have nothing better to do.

I leave for Virginia on Sunday afternoon.

Still havent received payment from anyone except Empire Casino. Casinos are slow, apparently. Its kind of annoying, I'd like to be paid.

    Hey euphor,

I tried to warn you that they very well many not launch. The weather was tetering on the go/no-go threshold all evening.

They two criteria they were worried about last night was the 5000ft clound coverage ceiling (part of their visibility criteria for assent debris tracking and assesment) and anvil clounds and rain within a 20mile radius. Things were right on the edge most of the night, more "no-go" than "go".

But it cost boocu bucks to scrub the launch and due it again, so if there is a resonable chance that they can get lucky and catch a break in the weather during their launch window, they are going to go for it. As a poker player, you can appricate that with a 40% chance to launch at about 6pm, are you going to call it off then to save $200k, but have to spend another $750K on another launch attempt tomorrow? Calling down is +EV

But I was working and hanging out for nothing too... but I didn't have to stand out in the cold the whole time :P I just ran out side at the last minute to too....... see......... nothing.

But you were actually on the NASA Causway? That's pretty cool!! How did you get on KSC Grounds? I wasn't that much closer than you. You were about 7miles away. I was about 3miles or so (no one is allowed within 3 miles... Cool Fact: at about 1-1.5 miles the accoustic vibrations will litereally knock you on your ass and stop your heart!).

To bad it didn't go off... hopefully you can get back on KSC for the next attempt.

Just FYI.... they are talking about 30% chance of launch Saturday. It's possible that they won't light the candles until sometime next week after the cold front passes. This cold front is screwing this thing up bigtime! I'll be pissed if it gets delayed too long and there are "On-Orbit" issues over Christmas that I've got to work!!

Anyway.... I'm thinking of doing some casino whoring myself. I'm taking a break from poker for the rest of the year, but wouldn't mind getting in on some of the free money from casino whoring...

Do you have a list of casinos that us US players can hit up? Maybe from best to worst bonuses in your opinion?

Its all your fault. Yeah, my sister got causeway tickets so five of us piled in her car. She had a choice between causeway and visitor center and said that the causeway was cooler. It was, in every sense of the word.

Yeah, I probably won't go out saturday, and then my flight to DC is on sunday so I'm SOL. Atleast I get the Nasa channel :/

Casinos... um yeah, do 'em. Do the same ones I've done except that microgaming $50 one because its craptastic. I'm running out of casinos pretty quick, my next one is Be The Dealer (which I should be working on right now but uh.. I'm not.) but after that I dont know where to go next.

    Vegas Casino Online
    Sun Palace Casino
    Empire Casino
    Be The Dealer

and I'll update as soon as I find the next one.

What if you uncheck the box on the right saying "Show only hands that were not folded"?

I would try to reinstall PT if I were you. The number in Totals should be almost 7000, not 345. I'm sure a lot more by this time.

I think the only hands that it doesn't count are the ones without flop (everyone folded, and big blind got 1,5BB).

I busted at Beat The Dealear. Martingale didnt work as well as I'd hoped. Sooo -$100. Lame. Umm... thats going to stop my casino whoring for a little. I'mup in Virginia now, ill go back to playing my highstakes 25NL for a little, just for a change of pace. Casino whoring is pretty boring.

    Monday, Dec 11

Solid solid day. I played some fullstacked 50NL (OMG!?) while watching a cardrunners vid and I picked up a buyin or twoish. Then as the night grew on I just kinda spun my wheels, decided to play some 2/4 6max LHE and found a great table. I had some nasty beats, but I gave some too, overall ending up +15 bets ($60) when the superfish left (he ran really hot, got back to his buyin and ran. Smart choice, because that shit woulda been MINE.)

So over my last 2 days I've made about $200. Pretty good, pretty good.

Not too happy with myself lately. Lot of bad luck and little bit of bad play has compounded itself into an 8 buyin downswing.

Like... here didn't see the straight draw. River is just pure spew spew spew.

Running like crap lately. Ran into several sets, lost with my big pp's you know how it goes. Just split KK with KQ on a 444AA board. GG *yawn*

Did another casino whore though, which, if they pay me *crosses fingers*, will be net +250. Covers my 5 buyin downswing.

Ran better, not amazing by any means, but not aweful. I just "made it work". Picked up about 3 and a half buyins mostly off one guy who I just exploited mercilessly. If I was in position and checked through the turn, he would checkminraise the river with second pairish hands every time. I destroyed him by doing that three times with near nut hands.

Umm.. Bankroll looking good. I believe I'm over 2k. How far can I go by christmas? W00t!

After all that misery, I'm back down in the $1600 range. I busted a pretty big blackjack bonus when I just ran horribly (How do you lose $270 with $2 bets at blackjack in 800 hands?!?! It was ugly.) So that hurt a lot.

Its all good. I'm due for an upswing.

Argh. I have to cash out $150 to pay for new eyeglasses. I'll get reimbursed about$100 of it, but I need to have a good night! Hell, I need to have a good night anyway.

    Time for work.

Euph, I take it that these casinos that you are playing at are open to all US players. Correct?
