Operation: Building a BR From Freerolling...

I started this on a couple of other forums at the beginning of the New Year, so I'm going to make a simple summary of January and then post what I've been doing from Feb 1st.

A little about me first..

I'm a 28 year old, stay at home dad to a 2.5 year old girl, Serenity. I gave up a good paying job I had in Alaska for 6 months, to come back to Hawaii for my family and they "didnt have work for me" after that. So it was me who was the parent who stayed home as my girlfriend had a pretty good paying job.

I had played a bit of online poker before, here and there but nothing serious.. I started up again last April or May because I wanted to see if there was any chance at winning a trip to the WSOP, which is my ultimate dream. The first month or two, I didn't even know about poker forums and basically played public freerolls and then realized there was a whole new world of poker in online forums. Once I started joining forums and focusing on nearly nothing but private games, my game improved drastically..

My first couple months in forums, I spent the majority of my time reading and taking notes on the do's and dont's, pretty much teaching myself the game. I went from cashing maybe once a week in public freerolls to cashing daily in a matter of no time.. I totally changed the way I played and learned how important patience is.

These days, If I don't cash a couple times a day, I get disappointed.. Then I hit a horrible couple weeks in January where I went a whole week without cashing and realized that I was simply playing way too many games and losing my concentration.

I'm on many many manyyyyyyyyy forums and have my own little google calander that I use and I felt the more games that I played, the more chances I have at cashing.. WRONG!

In the past week or so, I've gone back to focusing on certain games, instead of playing up to 20 games a day like I was, I'm picking out the ones that I feel are the best to play and I'm back to my winning ways.

$50 is more than enough to start playing $2NL.

Damm.It looks like you have build up a roll to 200-250?
You're pretty good at them!!

Im sure you have the basics to beat microstakes,start your 1st deposit.

i think im just over $300 since the start of january (didnt play the first 2 weeks of january)..

$50 is more than enough to start playing $2NL.

I've started doing $2 sng's on a couple of sites, when i'm not playing in anything else. A buddy of mine who does staking for players has this little plan that seems to work really well and so far it's done good for me as well..

simply.. 18 player, $2 sng's (full tilt for example) pays 4 places and 1st place being $14.. if you can win 1 out of every 7 games, you already break even.. so far, out of 3 games i've cashed in 2 of them.

I think I'm going to continue this way till February, then in March i'm going to cut down on the freerolls i'm playing and focus more on the $2 sng plan.


and no, i'm not cashing out.. just building as many bankrolls as i can so when the time comes for me to do the sng challenge, i'll have plenty places to play...

your a verry good player i've never done better than 20th place at a freeroll and i'm already trying cach game, it pay better i think and demande less patience

The month of February ended up being a pretty good month... I'm now ready to take a step up...

I've decided to play on less sites and focus more on the 3 or 4 main sites that I've been able to build a good bankroll on.. During February, I was probably at 70% freerolls, 30% buy ins.... i'm looking to do majority buy ins now, with MOST being sng's.... I've had some great times in the limited number of sng's that ive played this month and hope to play a lot more from now on..

thanks man.. most of the better cashes have actually come from the private buy ins.. usually have pretty small fields, but with some nice added $$$$.. love these games more than anything..

overall in February, profited about $600...

now the plan is this.. the sites that i have like $10 - $30 on, I'd like to work them up and eventually cash out so I can transfer them into my Full Tilt, Ubet, Absolute or Stars accounts. I'll probably take a couple chances with these, not a big loss if i lose and if i win, then great.. the problem with having money on these smaller sites, its hard to find games to "work" on the bankroll... might have to play more cash tables with these small bankrolls, though i prefer sng's.

Full Tilt is my main sng site so far.. I've got good bankrolls on Ultimate Bet, Absolute, Poker Nordica and Carbon Poker as well.. I plan to play this month out on Nordica and Carbon, before I go on my 2 week vacation in April.. then i'll be cashing out there and moving those bankrolls to Full Tilt or Stars..
