Default Operation: Rock, Ring, and re-Roll

I think it is finally time for me to get some goals out there for everyone to see. You know, so that I can get some of that constructive criticism I have been hearing so much about.

Anyway, I had to break my roll. Well, I didn't have to, but as a casual player I thought my money was safer in an IRA than in an online poker account. So, I withdrew $2k. I left only $50 in my account, and have created a new goal for myself. I am moving on from the SnG's that I love so much, and delving into the lucrative world of NL ring. I have no idea how to start, other than to play tighter. I am reading posts, and books I have, and I think I'll be okay.

Well, wish me luck. GO BIG OR GO BUSTO!!!

    AAargh!!!

I can't make shit happen in these ring games. I want to broaden my game, but I'm just way more profitable at the SnG's. The only reason I would continue on with this is because I am making enough at live tourneys on base to reload if I bust a few times. You think I wouldn't have so much of a problem. Maybe I will let my AP account sit, and deposit on Stars, or try Full Tilt or something.

Does anyone think I should just move back to the SnG's? Or change sites? Or maybe just stop being so lazy and post HH's so I can get some hand advice? Anyway, any help is appreciated.

What limit are you playing at for FR and what buy in SNGs were you doing? If you made 2k playing SnGs you likely possess the basic poker knowledge needed to beat the microstakes. That being said, posting HHs would obviously help us find mistakes in your play. Also, actually defining goals would probably be beneficial (go big or go busto is an awful goal). ABC tagg poker is def. the way to go at microstakes and there is no good way that i know of to beat them besides value bet them to death. Good luck.

I just got an HH up, and I'll start doing that more now. I have made an improvement though I'm sure. I was looking around at some posts, and came across an HH posted by Fnord. His aggro play at 400nl won him big money. Not that I'm playing at 400nl, but it made me think. I checked my PT stats from ring with my stats from the SnG's, and found that I am not playing near as aggresive, and not much tighter. Although, I would have sworn up and down that this was not the case had I been asked. Anyway, after playing all day, I am up good. I started the day at $40, and ended at $65. Single tabling.

Thanks for the post papal. I am playing .05/.1nl. That's 20nl at AP. It seems high, but I have much more money to play with than $50. It's just a starting amount. If I bust, I reload. No big deal. Also, that's the lowest you can play at AP nl. I was winning $10+$1 SnG's. Go big or go busto is more like a war cry. It has no real meaning, or purpose in that post. Last, my overall goal is to reroll to $1k, playing nothing but 6max nl ring.

I do have the ability to beat these stakes. No sweat, I just need to calm down. Study my game, and know what my mistakes are.

Aggressive play is definitely good but at microstakes you have to be very selective with your aggression. When the majority of players are incapable of folding any pair on the flop, the same plays that are profitable at 400nl are often just spew at 20nl. Im not saying dont look at Fnord's Hand Histories, because you can learn a lot from them. You just have to realize that every tactic is dependent on the particular game dynamics and 400nl is drastically different from 20nl. You can definitely learn from seeing how Fnord plays but every piece of advice must be taken in the correct context.

hmm, i dont think i was too clear there, hopefully it makes sense.

I'm restarting this thing. I dropped AP and moved to FTP. I think I have found my niche at the FR tables. I have gone from my initial deposit ($30 after some goofing around back when I first downloaded the software), to $140 in a week at $10NL. I can't stop these guys from paying me off. Well, I hope I can keep it up.

THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THESE TWO SITES!! I HAVE FOUND THAT EVEN THE SIT-N-GOS ON FTP ARE SOFTER THAN THE ONES ON AP.

    I am loving fulltilt.

AP's micro stakes games are the softest of any site by far. They are just shit for table selection.
