Operation: Shoots and Ladders

Short background on my pokerplaying career:
I started playing about a year ago and lost about $60 before i ever started winning anymoney. Since then, i built my bankroll up at stars playing $5-$20 sngs to around $1600 around DecJan '07. I didnt play seriously the whole time and went throught spurts where i hardly played at all for a a couple months at a time. In January i had to cash out my entire bankroll due to financial issues and went for about 2 months with out playing poker for money.

In February i luckboxed my way into a win at the FTR $750 freeroll on ap and won $225. This is where i start my real poker career i suppose, or at least hope to. I built this bankroll up to where its at currently, about $2500 playing sngs and low buyin MTTs and a small amount of cash games (ok the cash didnt really build my roll, rather it dropped it a few buyins).

Last month i set a goal of $3000 by May 1st, as this is where ill be able to play the stakes i want to play comfortably. To make things a little more complicated however, i have to cash out money every month to supplement my gf's income to pay for rent and other bills. I would like to be able to make about $2000 a month and keep half of it in my bankroll and half to live off of. This all to avoid getting a job, since i really dont want one. My gf and my entire family thinks i should get a job, but i have confidence in my poker abilities (most of the time) and think a job would be a waste of my time (woo $8/hr )

So thats pretty much where im at right now, didnt end up being such a short introduction but thats ok.

Are you still playing primarily sngs? What stakes? Are you on AP still?

Ya im primarily playing $20 and $30 sngs on AP, but will be moving to vegas247 in the next couple days to get rakeback where i may start playing some 50NL if the bonus doesnt include sngs and tournies. Im playing some smaller tournies on AP as well, $10 MTTs, and the $3 rebuy there, although there isnt very good selection.

Good luck for your operation. I used to really like Ultimate Bet’s SNG and MTT structure and you can clear their bonus + rakeback at the same time. Also Bodog has a great MTT structure (although their software sucks) and you can get a small 10% bonus plus rakeback there.

Well i opened up two accounts at AP trying to get rakeback on the second one and i xferred a $1000 from the second account to the first and cashed out in order to move to vegas247. Anyways this set off APs Collussion protection system and they withdrew all of my funds and closed my accounts. After nearly shitting myself because i didnt know what happened, i talked to their live chat and i had to fax my id and a check showing my name and address to verify my account and their supposed to open up one of my accounts. I faxed my stuff about 6 hours ago and it still hasnt let me log on yet. I just spent 25 minutes on hold with APs security department and didnt get an answer so well see if i get to play anything tonite.

Well the AP situation hasnt resolved itself yet, so tonite i had to play with my $10 roll on Stars. I got ended up getting 3 firsts in a row and a second in the last 1 bringing my PS bankroll up to $70 . I also played a $2 tournament but that went nowhere. Basically tonite was for shits and giggles, but i felt it was better than not playing at all.

The AP situation is cleared up now so tonite i will be able to play for more than $5 buyins...

Well tonite was pretty disapointing with how bad a ran in some of my sngs, i got a first in my last sng to turn a losing session into a winning one.
Overall Recap:

8- $33 sngs, 2 firsts, 1 second, 5 bustos. 32.95%roi and 37.5% ITM
1 $5 FO, busted in the second hour.
1 $3 rebuy, busted in first hour... In the last 10 minutes of the rebuy my jacks lost to 22 all in preflop and right after i lost my AP softwar froze up and it made me exit the tournament. Lame.
1 $25 FO, couldnt get anything goin and busted 2nd hour.

Ended up with $47.80 net for the day.

Heres a hand on the bubble from tonite that cost me the sng. I think i played it pretty well despite results, do you push there as well? OP is a 26/12, dont remember him minraising too much, but with the shortstack i felt i had to push.

Last two days have gone pretty bad, nothing seems to be going right for me. Ive played 13 sngs, 1 1st and 2 3rds for a net loss of $164. Ive played a couple $20 FO, a $5 FO, $10 FO, and 2 $3ra. I got 21st in the $5 fo and busted to a stupid resteal mistake. Heres the hand, i really dont know what i was thinking, please abuse me for this so i dont do it again.

Since when is it cool to limp aces anyways? All in all im running into big hands and im also losing with my big hands, not a good combination. Maybe ill take tomorrow off, well see how i feel.

Moved some money over to FT yesterday, and so far im liking the structure of their turbo sngs. The bonus is clearing pretty fast and now ill finally have some rakeback.

Overall i played the $3ra on stars, AP, and on FT. In the the stars rebuy i ran into limped kings with AK when i was in the bb with 4-5 limpers after i pushed. In the AP rebuy i had a pretty nice stack and ran into limped aces with QQ, but i was getting 2:1 and i didnt feel i could lay down there. Other than that i played 13 $24 turbo sngs and got 3 firsts, a second and a third to win about $50. After alls said and done i pretty much broke about even after rakeback and bonuses.

Played some $24 turbos on FT and lost about $80, nothing too exciting here.

Played in a $27.50 FO on stars and placed about 200th for $50. Then played in the two daily double tournaments on FT and placed ITM in both and netted in about $50 on the two of them.

Also took down the $3 rebuy on AP for $2127.35, my first 4 figure payout woot!

I can still remember my first 4 figure cash - just as well as my first girl. It was actually a casino whoring job and I hit a pat royal flush on 100 line video poker... that was $4,000 + a bit more winnings = $5000. I was so excited I couldn't sleep all night and went out bowling!

My first tourney 4 figure cash was much later and less exciting because my bankroll was large compared to the winning

Past few days have been a little rough, dropped about $200 playing $24 turbos and another $100 playing 100NL.

Tonite i played the $3ra on stars and AP, and two $26 FOs on FT. I just made it itm in one of the $26 fo, and placed 28th in the $3 rebuy on stars for like $60. AP froze up on me again after i lost an all in in the last 10 min of the rebuy period and i timed out before i got a chance to rebuy. Overall i played fairly well, although i would have liked to ft the $3 rebuy on stars.

Don't play $100NL. Stick to tourneys man, it's where you're making your money.

Of course, we could play ring if you wanna donate some money to me...

Ill play some ring with you just for fun, some 10NL or something.
