Default Operation: Success as a professional MTT player

Welcome to this operation, which I hope to post in on a daily basis, and which I hope shall be mutually beneficial to both myself (with good feedback from you guys) as well as to people reading, particularly with respect to the swings MTT pro's will experience.

I am in quite a fortunate position at the moment, with limited out going expenses each day, the ability to play Euro sites and enough savings to not be too concerned with a long streak with little to no profits.

Even so, as a converted cash game player, I am hoping to get of to a strong start to my 'mtt career'. This will help me alot with my confidence levels, and allow me to move up to play bigger MTT's faster.

The reason I chose to move from cash poker to tournaments was simply due to boredom with the daily grind of cash poker, and the thrill one can only expect to get getting deep in a big tournament. I hope this move will work out, so that I do not have to move back to cash games out of necessity.

I intend to play tournaments up to $50 fo's and $15 rebuys across multiple sites; every site you can think of tbh :P . Am hoping to log 30-40 mtt's every day in one sick grind. I have no plans till February, and so i am really looking forward to one long grindathon. My current plan isnt fixed in stone, but i would like to make around $50k (£30k) before i move up to include the sunday majors and 100 FO/ 50r in my regular schedule.

Wish me luck, and please leaves your thoughts, my first day will be this sunday

I played most my cash since crypto on boss at 100/200/400/600/1k euro, not on inter though.

Hi ownyoursoul, you did usually own my soul unfortunatly

Just finished a 9 hour session.

    Results:

    +$130 over 29 mtts.

Not great but better than losing i guess.

Its tempting to move up to the bigger buy ins tournies ($200 fo and $50rebuys), but the variance scares me a little bit, even though i would be overrolled at that level

Just finished another session. My body clock is really messed up at the moment, where i am waking up at 11 pm and then playing through the night (mainly on the US sites).

I decided to make a change to my strategy from this session onwards. Yesterday I registered over 6 hours, today i only registered over 2.5 hrs, again with $50 fo's being the highest stakes i played. Basically i registered for 18 mtt's in 2.5 hrs, and the bonus of this approach as compared to the one i used yesterday is i get to play a shorter session (and thus play better overall) and more importantly by the time i reach the late stages in any of my tournies I am on less tables and so can concentrate on the late stages of all the tournies i am left in.

    Today I played 16 mtt's and made $1250 profit.

Decided i am going to move up once i have made $20k profit at these stakes. I have a weekly schedule all ready to roll (playing up to $200 fo's), but before i start on this i want to crush at these lower stakes. Just to gain confidence in my ability to beat mtt's

fwiw you should be playing 100 FOs way before the sunday majors, and combining 50 RBs and 100 FOs as if they are similar does not make sense from a $ or skill perspective.

    Played another session, 12 mtt's. Made $240.

I have been a very nocternal lifestyle since i started at these mtt's, and am feeling that i need to get back to being awake when the euro sites run there bigger field size mtt's.

I feel quite nitty playing $50 fo as my max but i am worried $200 fo and stuff will have sick variance which might tilt me alot? I also wanted to prove i am a winner at $50 and $10 rebuys before i moved up a level. However, i dont know if i should just have blind faith in my mtt game from the fact i have made quite alot at msnl this year?

The main reason i made this post was to blog the swings an mtt player will go through, both for myself and for other peoples interest. I dont think most players are truely forthcoming about the swings one can expect whilst doing this mtt game for a living..... most the ppl i know only blog or comment after a big win or a nice hot run. I hope to post updates every day to put down on paper what I go through from a variance angle

yeh, i think from now on i am gonna play $100fo and below, and $20 reb and below. Going to do this untill i make $50k worth of profit in these mtt's. Then i shall move up and play the sunday majors and anything beneath $500, $1k's and $100rebuys

I'm saying Sunday majors are twice as expensive as a 100 FO and 50 RBs are more on average. Plus the Sundays have lots of 'swings' just given the amount of players. And the 50+rbs have swings just because most of the players do not suck. So lumping them all together makes no sense.

I'd recommend 200 BIs for FOs and 1k BIs for RBs, but whatever you do don't pretend a 100 FO with 500 people = the Sunday Million. Make a strategy you're comfortable with and stick to it.

hehe, yes makes alot of sense. I agree, going to start $100 fo now and $20 rb.

FWIW, with my limited knowledge of mtt's i think something like 500+ buy ins for freezeouts is more appropiate for a pro. Although it all depends what ur abi is and how mentally able to take swings u r and how good u r and what size fields u play in and how capable u r at moving down in stakes

I, myself, wont be playing any tournament online that i dont have 1k buy ins for. I dont agree with taking shots and like to be overolled!

At this level i am rolled for everything online except $500fo+, however the reason i dont want to play the big $200 mtts and $150 fo/ 50 rb is because i dont know if i will have an edge in those games. I wanna prove myself lower down first.

Made about $1200 today. played a few mtt's but made all my money on some cash games. Feels dumb, I dont want to play cash anymore, but being ill has meant i didnt have the stamina for an mtt session. Hence i played some cash games because i fancied playing.

Again, tempted to playing bigger stakes mtt's.... perhaps whilst keeping playing the lower stakes ones too? I dont know, played a couple of $100 fo today, and it didnt stop me from trying my best in a $30 fo i was in at the same time. So this is possible to do i guess.

havnet been able to play any mtt's over the last few days due to waking up at 3 am when no games are on at all. Have won some donking around in cash games over the last week which is awesome, but need to get my body clock sorted to play more tournies.

Might play later today unless i get too sleepy, failing that i shall play a ton tomorrow. None of the majors but even the regular mtts have bloated fields on sundays which is always good fun

played alot of tournies last night. End result was +$50. played pretty good, busted early on two final tables which kind of sucked
