    Default Operation WSOP Whore

    Definition:

Whore the WSOP Satellites on Pokerstars for $75000 (Including 1 Seat)

    Plan:

    A. Build up a W$ Balance of $10,000 playing the satellites for the $160 DS and the $650 FO.

    B. When W$ Balance hits $10,000, add the $160 DS and $650 to my playing schedule. Win my seat to the WSOP, then continue to play the sats until I make $63,000 profit in real money.

    C. If I sell my W$ myself, (without the help of the broker sites), I can get about a 90% conversion rate. Once I win 1 seat, any extra seats credit my account with $10000 in W$ plus $1000 in cash.

    D. UPDATE: I've done the math on the totals of all the satellites I plan to play. These are based upon my EV in each satellite based on my own stats and the timeframe in which I plan to play every day. They are as follows:

    $3RA - 120
    $5RA - Removing From Plan
    $15DS - 450
    $25RA - 150
    $33RA - 30
    $80FO - 100
    $160DS - 100
    $650FO - 7

    Goal:

Complete Operation by my birthday on May 7th, 2006.

    Cumulative Totals

    Buyins: $1099.25

    Prizes: $2340

    Total Profit: $1240.75

    ROI: 112.87%

    Total Satellites Played: 17

    Hey lamb,
sorry to hijack your thread but ive never really played at poker stars. Maybe you could explain to me how these W$'s work. Are these regular cash buy-ins you are playing? I am interested in maybe trying to win my seat this year through PS so whatever info you could give me i would really appreciate.

    thanks

When you qualify for a seat on Pokerstars, you can either play the seat or unregister and receive T$ or W$ in your account. Different satellites pay back with either one. T$ (Tournament Dollars) can be used to play any tournament or SNG. You earn these by winning seats to tournaments like the weekly $1 Million Guaranteed ($215). W$ (Special Event Dollars) are earned by winning seats to any large event such as the WSOP, WPT, EPT, etc. or winning seats to a another satellite that is for these events. W$ can then only be used to buyin for satellites to these events. Here is an example:

    WSOP Path:

$73+7 Freeze Out (Winners get seat in the $615+$35 Freeze Out)
$615+35 Freeze Out (Winners get seat in the WSOP Main Event)

Now, lets say I win a seat playing the 1st satellite. If I unregister from the $615+35 event, my Pokerstars account is credited with 650 W$. When I open my cashier, I now see three acounts, Cash, T$, W$. I can know use my W$ to buyin to any WSOP satellite of any buyin level. All of these satellites can also be entered using cash.

W$ also have a cash value. You can sell your W$ either from player to player or through sites like Cashmanbrian.com or Sellyourseat.com. These sites usually pay 80% and sell for 95%. For this reason you can usually work your own deals out with players for 85-90%. This all being said, the reason I keep reusing my $W to buyin to the satellites is because its cheaper than buying in with Cash. Using 90% as the conversion rate, an $80 FO satellite actually costs me W$72.

And btw you aren't hijacking, i don't mind answering questions on anything regarding this. Hope i've answered yours here. If you more info, check this page out - http://www.pokerstars.com/wsop/

    Hey lampchop,

Do you know of any good uses of W$ besides the WSOP satellites? I have also been playing a lot of the 5R satellites to the $160 double shootouts, simply because the players in them are just plain terrible and I figure it can't hurt to build up a good balance of W$ at a low cost, even if I don't yet know what I'm going to use it for.

You can only use them for special events qualifiers like WSOP, EPT, WPT, etc. You can't use them in regular tournies. If you don't want to use them for that you're only other option is to try and sell them.
TheXianti: (Triptanes) why are you not a thinking person?

Yeah I know all that, you can use them for WCOOP events also by the way. I was asking him which specific tourneys I should use them on, which ones have the most fish and the best structure. I don't want to enter the double shootouts or the 33R WSOP qualifiers because they both seem like too much of a crapshoot to me. If there's a WSOP qualifier with a good structure I just might take a shot.

    Lambchop,

I thought about this some more and I like your plan so much that I'm going to do it myself, with a couple of changes. I'll use my W$ only on the weekend $650 MTT satellites to the WSOP, and not the double shootouts.

Basically, the reason satellites are so profitable is that most players have no clue how to adjust their game on the bubble. You will see big stacks make some truly horrible plays such as getting all-in with AJ against another big stack when they could have just folded their way into a seat. For this reason I think MTT satellites that award a large number of entries, are much more +EV than almost any other MTT we play in, and they're definitely more +EV than the double shootouts that are winner-take-all. In a winner-take-all game the donks will play much closer to correctly. Also, the way the double shootouts are set up, the good players filter to the top so the final table ends up being basically a $1500 SNG in which at least 3 of your opponents are really good. To me that sucks, so I'm not going to enter the double shootouts at all.

I just wish they ran the 5R satellites more often. A lot of times I found that I had room for another table, but there weren't any more satellites open for me to register in. UltimateBet has a pretty decent qualifying path too. They have

-$3R satellites that pay out a 100+9 satellite entry to the winners
-100+9 satellite that pays out a 1000+50 entry to the winners
-Every couple of weeks they have a 1000+50 satellite in which 1 out of 12 players wins a WSOP seat.

So I think I'll try to accumulate some entries to the 100+9 as well and see if I can't win an entry to the 1000+50.

PS: If you think I'm hijacking your thread I can delete this post, I was just trying to discuss why this plan is such a good idea and maybe mention some other sites where you could do the same thing.
