Weekend Play: One night experiment

Default Weekend Play: One night experiment

I make my money during the weeks plain and simple.

At $25NL (and I daresay at $50NL) the tables are populated by Taggs and weak players. The players are so ridiculously easy to outplay after the flop that a good lagg game really seems to work. Ive been playing this style for a while at home games and online and i've had loads of success, but my BR is stagnent. Why?

Because I havn't learned to adjust to the weekend play. playing 2 nights during the week i make on average 2/3 buyins and lose the same amount on a weekend. The play is totally different.

During the week, it is easy to get paid by REPRESENTING sets, and by firing second barrels at continuation bets. (When the situation is right obv.) Sure you can get paid when you hit big if you play the right way, but there is so much additional value in taking advantage of the weak/tight players as well. Not so at the weekends.

From what ive noticed the major change is in the number of people who call EVERYTHING. Even missed AK all the way to the river! Bluffs don't work. Pf raises can be called by 42. My game just doesnt work in these situations.

So here is my plan. Tonight i'm gonna play the rockiest rock game ever. Playing pots with pairs (when i have the odds), set or forget all pps below QQ, betting TPTK hard. Never bluffing, and calling the button with SC's, and one gappers, to try and hit big flops in position. During the week, this may make money but not much. Hopefully at the weekend it should pay off.

4 tabling for 5-6 hours should mean around 2k hands at full ring (hopefully). Ill post the results and key hands from the experiment tonight..

    wish me luck

I'll teach you how to be a nit if you can teach me how to LAGG it up postflop.

Do you have PT? What's your AF if you know it?

I have PT. I don't know what AF is. Im at work and don't have PT with me right now.

Lagging it up post flop is all about hand reading (which is exceedingly tough at weekends as many players don't seem to play rationally!) and player reading. I'm sure there are better players than me to teach you, but ill show you some of the things I do.

I have this problem too. Pretty much all my worst days have been on weekends. I've always been able to bully weak tables - but on weekends I either lose too much when all my cbets and bluffs are called (it always takes me ages to adjust) or I go on tilt when some fucker calls down my river bluff when a 2 comes and he's holding 5th pair no kicker (exactly this happened the other night).

WTF abuse fish are you serious????

Your game is worthless if you have no idea how to adjust. Learn it. Fish are most of my profit, learn how to manipulate them.

Come on man, adjusting aint difficult.

I can't see how you lose at weekends, weekends = $$$$$$.. I've been on 50NL tables that almost play like play money, seriously. You can make it $5 to go preflop and you'll still get a couple of callers.. its beautiful!

Well thats kinda the point of this experiment!

Still it's going well to anyone else having the same problems. 2 hours in and 2 buyins up. Ill post hands later.

Ive been reraised by T2 whilst holding AK. That was a nice weekend hand!

It has nothing to do with whether today is a tuesday or a saturday. Every table is different. Every table is exploitable in a different way. Granted, a Saturday table *tends* toward a certain play style but it is not ubiquitous by any means.

We all know the general rule -- if a table is tight passive, you're loose aggressive and vice-versa.

In theory you should never be able to label yourself a "lag" or a "tag" -- your label will switch depending on which one of your specific opponents is in the pot. If there is, for sake of an example a 20/5 in the pot, good time to be a LAG because villain will only play back with the nutz.
