Goddd I hate the sox.. but amazing game!

I wouldn't be too disappointed if the city of Boston fell into the ocean tomorrow. I wouldn't go so far as to say I want it to happen, but if it did, I wouldn't cry about it or anything.

Sorry man, only functional laptop in the house right now is my gf's, so if she's on it I can't aim and watch at the same time. BUT, did you know the Philadelphia Phillies are in the WORLD SERIES????

I don't think there's any way the Red Sox don't win the AL pennant now. The Rays' heads are too fucked.

Oops, obv I did the math wrong. I think the odds should be somewhere around 3.5:1 but I'll take 3:1 up to $50. Nothing like mcat jumping on a bet to make you realize you screwed up the math

lol... touche sir. But what if the sox had a budget as low as the rest of the league.. what if they couldn't just buy out the world. Then what happens?

Sorry man, I'm already giving you a deal at 3:1. If both games were 50/50 then the odds would be 3:1, but the Rays are ~1.3:1 faves in Game 6. The only series odds I can find online are effectively 3.2:1 (splitting the juice).
  17. #167
hmm.. alright I'm ok for now. I'm not convinced that the sox are only 25% to take this thing down.

but we'll for sure make a bet in the world series if TB gets there!

I understand. Plus our brains aren't wired to like risking more to win less.

Ok. I'll either want to make a small bet on Philly or a huge bet on TB/Bos as an emotional hedge.

But New Englanders don't deserve this kind of treatment. We look down on the rest of the country for a reason...we're better than everyone.

Philly fans deserve every bit of misery because they're trash (except you Dave, you're cool).

Don't worry, we're used to it. I'm just hoping for some freak accident, like one of the catwalks at the Trop falling on all three Rays outfielders.

My reactions to last night's game:

I think Garza should get MVP of the night. He was lights out. I would have been more dazzled if it wasn't my team he was destroying but after the Dusty HR he was untouchable. However, how has he not died from dehydration due to spitting is beyond me.

I think the red sox got screwed twice. Once by coco crisp's slide into second base and the second by the "strikeout" of JD drew, both in the eighth. Crisp was out but that was the most retarded slide I think I've ever seen. Seriously, wtf. He earned my respect back in these last few games and instantly destroyed it with that slide. I think he cost us the game. More importantly though, JD Drew checked his swing and that was the biggest bullshit call I've ever seen. The ump got carried away in the moment and called one of the most questionable strike 3's in this post season.

Side note: The ump behind home plate was jsut awful last night. This went both ways though. Lester and Garza would throw the same outside pitch twice in a row and each time the ump would call something different.

Side note squared: I want to thank Dustin and Lester for showing up to the game. I'm not sure where the rest of the Red Sox got lost on the way to the Tropicana Field but I suppose Tampa is a confusing area. Especially for Ortiz who didn't show up to 2008. I think he made a wrong turn in November 07 and ended up somewhere in Canada.

Drew's swing was a borderline swing. I think it was pretty bad that the homeplate ump called it a swing instead of appealing down to the 3rd base ump who had a better view, but he actually got the call correct.

To his defense though, well not really his defense but more on of these "Makeup calls" things. He screwed up another check-call in boston's favour and I think it was earlier that inning even. If I remember properly.

I don't think you remember properly.

In all truth, Drew probably wouldn't have done anything anyway based on his previous at bats but who knows. It was far too crucial of a situation to make such a quick judgment in the heat of the moment. It deserved at least a line judge ruling.

5:4? Why you keep trying to cheat me? I'll put $36.50 up against your $50, which is slightly better for you than just splitting the juice on the current Pinny line.

i believe it's the one where the red sox lost to the rays on sunday, not sure though

on a serious note, the phils should really really really be pitching hamels 1/4/7 instead of 1/5. it's not smart. maybe even 1/4/6 if necessary. to not get him in 3 games in a series where he will have good rest...fuck, it just seems insane.

also, burrell/howard/rollins going 0-13 and leaving 13 RISP is just gonna not work out every fucking game.

Where do you get good rest? It would be 3 days in Game 4 and then 3 days in Game 7. He's never pitched on 3 days rest and they've said pretty clearly they don't plan to start now, right after a season he pitched a career-high and near league-high number of innings.

The only hope for two more Cole Hamels appearances is two rain postponements. First one is looking good for Saturday, big system moving into Philly, 90% chance of rain...

for some reason i thought 4 days. gorilla mathhh. still, he looks awesome, and these are the last real games for about half a year. maybe you're right though. i just want to see the phils win in the worst fucking way, though i'm sure you do as well.

Me neither. That's the agony of 2-4 in the Phils rotation. My questions going into tonight:

    1) Can Myers get out of the 1st inning unscathed? His first innings have been horrendous all year, even during his hot streak in the last couple of months of the season. I think his first inning ERA is like 9 or something. I'll be dancing around my living room if he puts up a zero in the first inning.

    2) Can Myers locate his fastball? If he's missing spots, inside or over the plate, he'll have a short night.

    3) Can Rollins and Howard put together even a couple decent ABs? They looked lost at the plate last night, esp Howard. Phils can't expect 3 runs to win with Brett on the mound, so they need some production from their best hitters.

One positive is that our hitting lineup is much stronger vs. a right-hander. Dobbs will play 3rd and is one of our best hitters, period. And I bet Matt "OMFG where did you come from?" Stairs will DH.
  72. #222
if myers is looking even remotely good tonight i feel about 100 times better about the world series.
