Yah that was a weird.. third strike.. call out..check down at first..walk... play he called
And the ball that clearly hit Rollins in the 9th that would have given them two on with none out. Whatever, they should have been leading at that point anyway.
  2. #227
Should have gone down as one of the best defensive plays in World Series history, and by a 45 year-old no less. Instead the ump blows the call and it leads to a run. FUCK.

Moyer pitched so well tonight and I couldn't be happier about it. F the haters.
  3. #228
Phillies getting outplayed and outmanaged, don't deserve to win this. FUCK. But they still would be winning if the ump didn't blow that call.

I have no idea how they won this game.

This is the kind of game that makes you think it might possibly, somehow, in some version of reality... be the Phillies year.

despite how inept they've been, the rays haven't been amazing, and the phillies are just two wins away from doing what once seemed to be impossible as a philadelphia fan.

ha, I'm just hoping for a ridiculously awesome series, one that lasts at least six games. If it can somehow last seven games.....holy shit that would be unreal, to be able to sit and hang on each and every pitch, and I have absolutely nothing vested in either of these teams. I can't imagine what it'd be like if I were actually a huge fan of one of these teams, or if it was the ROYALS...So far it's been pretty damn good, so I'm happy for that.

and btw, you Phillies faithful crack me up. one minute it's "we are awesome," next minute it's doom and gloom, then it's onto "omg we MIGHT have a chance." must be nice to have those types of feelings, I guess. I wouldn't know, I'm a Royals fan...here it's, "well, hopefully we don't lose 100 this year."

good luck Philly faithful but I'm root-root-rooting for the RAYS

This was my first thought as soon as I typed that. But fuck it, if you can't have hope when your team's up 2-1 in the World Series, what's the point? And when they're at that point despite going 1 for 28 with men in scoring position, making some key errors and the umps blowing 3 calls, it makes you realize that this game is crazy and anything can happen.

Honestly I think the Rays are a slightly better team and are built better for the postseason... they have better starting pitching, better managing, more speed and slightly better defense. The Phillies have an ace and some home run hitters. But the ace is going in Game 5!

I'm sorry for you KC fans UG, but the Rays should give you hope. Small market, small payroll teams can get it done...

Classic makeup call. The ump was in perfect position and still blew it. Ha.

Phillies may be the least clutch team to ever be up 2-1 in WS.

    lol optimism!

goddd rays won't lose... I don't care if hamels is going.. losing in 5 is too weak and they'll push it to six. Though I think phils will win it.. in 6 or 7.. sigh.

are you kidding me? they should have called it waaaaaay before they did. there's freaking standing water all over the field, puddles everywhere!

surprised they let it go as long as they did. that said, I'm glad Pena got to come up huge. more baseball!

p.s. a real team would want to win a full nine inning game, lawlz

I agree! It's such bullshit that they wait until the game's fucking tied! Either the field's playable or it's not. The rules for postseason games need to be changed to allow games to be resumed the next day at any point.

And obviously it should be a full nine-inning game to decide the fucking World Series. I'm just pissed that would let them play in horrible conditions that no game would ever be played in just because the Phillies had a lead. AND I NEED SOME KIND OF FUCKING CLOSURE TONIGHT.

    it didn't help.

it's been raining non-stop since yesterday, and as a life-long Philies fan, this is torture.
  51. #276
Selig has no balls. What a fucking moron. He came out after the game and said we wouldn't have let the game end 2-1 so even if the Rays didn't score in the 6th he would have suspended the game and they would have finished today or tomorrow. What fucking joke. If that was the case, why didn't he suspend it when Rollins couldn't catch a routine popup in the infield? Or when standing puddles were forming on the infield? Or when they had to work 15 minutes every half-inning to get the mound ready? Obviously Selig waited until it was tied because he's such a fucking pussy. I wish Manuel hadn't declined to speak to the media, he would have torn him a new one.

Here's a good article summing up the Philly perspective:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playof...son&id=3668201

I'm getting worked up again and I've only been awake for half an hour.

    Good article zook!

yah.. this whole rain scene really screws the phil's pretty hard. Not really fair that hamels can't pitch in the clincher properly...

selig is a dumbass. Ever since that allstar game that ended in a tie.. he's been a dumbass

    No baseball tonight

Only upside is that Hamels will be available on 3 days rest for Game 7 and I think they'll use him b/c he only made 75 pitches last night. And both Moyer and Blanton will be fully rested for long relief if necessary.

if game 5 is tomorrow night, wouldn't that make game 7 on saturday, giving cole 4 days rest?

or are they just gonna go straight wednesday through friday?

Haven't announced yet for sure, but the plan was to play straight through with Wed/Thurs in Tampa if they could get the game in tonight, so I'd be surprised if they scheduled an off-day if they get it in tomorrow. One of the articles said that Fri/Sat are the worst TV ratings nights, so that makes it even more unlikely.

also, to ug and anyone else who doesn't understand why zook and myself are freaking out.

have you rooted for a franchise who's lost more games than any other professional sports team in history?

have you had a gm who seemingly is trying to destroy your team (actually, spenda and bob do)

those of us who aren't the fucking retarded yahoos who boo santa claus and pelt j.d. drew with batteries have waited patiently for shit to turn around, and now that it finally is about to, we have to wait. it's fucking torture.

while it looks like it's almost a sure thing that the phillies are finally gonna bring it home...all philly fans have experienced what it's like when we jump the gun and then the team fails miserably. see the '93 phillies or '04 eagles for an example.

i'm just praying that they finish it off tomorrow.

Goddamn Manuel is a bad manager. Why start with Madson if you're not going to stick with him for more than one inning? It forced him to let Romero bat with a man on in the 7th... unreal.
