    Default 3rd gen iPod nano

I'm considering picking this up for it's versatility and size....

    http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=89229

Do any of the other products out there clearly blow this out of the water?

I see disk space and file compatibility being it's biggest drawbacks.
So you click their picture and then you get their money?

I'm bumping this for you b/c I myself am finally going to get an iPod and don't know what to get. BTW, that's the same price Best Buy is selling theirs, so you wouldn't have to wait on the shipping if you have one near by.

On to me, let's say my price range is $200-$300, what's my best option? I'm actually trying to decide between and iPod and and iPhone for the time being.

    Someone give us some advice!!

My first mistake was buying an iPod Shuffle. Great product, but always left wanting for more.

My wife bought me the new Nano yesterday since I was always salivating over hers. My recommendation is that unless you are a total uber techno geek. The new Nano's will give you the best bang for your buck in the 8gb version. If you want videos and all that other happy horseshit, you'll want more space and should save for the regular iPod.

Can anyone say wether there is a difference in quality between the hard disk drive iPod vs. the flash Drive Nanos?

Plus my wife only paid $189 for the Nano at the local wholesale club (Costco, here in CT.)

Ipod or even better the Ipod Touch is for travelers, commuters, or people with lots of time spent w/ said device. Nano is for people who have limited use of the device or need a smaller device for working out.
I have a Nano for any cardio that I do and the only thing I really miss is the availability of an FM tuner. My gym has the TV sound broadcast via FM transmitters and I can't hear the programming. Reading subtitles is for deaf or French people.
Reliability: I had a 1st Gen Nano and it broke(battery+resetting itself). My 2nd Gen one seems fine though.
My wife has had a regular Ipod for 4 years now without any problems.
Playing live . . . thanks alot Bin Laden.

Well after a few days with my new Nano, all I can say is how happy I am to have it.

I use the Nano for my car and office. While the shuffle is still hands down best for working out.

My only problem is that since my car stero isn't iPod capable, I have to use an FM transmitter. Not horrible, but not crystal clear like CD. At least I don't have to worry about switching CD's anymore.

I currently have one of the old mini's or whatever they are called, its only 6gigs and I always wish I had a bigger one. I had a 30gig but it got stolen. Only a portion of my library fits on the one I have now and I hate "managing" my music. I would be tempted to get a touch because its really awesome and would be cool to have when traveling due to its wifi capabilities, but it has a "small" hd and Id prob get more utility out of a 80gig classic.

sidenote, what is everyone using to build a library?

if no one wants to admit to doing anything illegal, that's fine, I just doubt everyone here is paying iTunes for each indiv. song.

Seriously, I never foresee myself needing anything bigger than the Nano I have now. Then again I have a very small music library. And even if I could only fit a portion onto the Nano, it would probably be the music I'm currently listening to anyways.

i use limewire for the most part, but i also borrow CD's from freinds and family that i want.
eeevees are not monies yet...they are like baby monies.

I like the surprise of the shuffle feature, the bigger the library the more fun it is to use these feature imo.

spenda, I used some russian site that cost pennies/song and offered better compression ratios than available on itunes. The way I funded my acct got shut down though apparently and I havent checked again in a long time. Since then Ive torrented a few and been sent a few by friends. Ive also purchased a few through itunes because I know I would forget to get the song if I didnt get it at that point. Paying for music sucks in general though.

I got my girlfriend a zune and she *loves* it. Its got a larger screen than the ipods, 80 gig harddrives, and half the cost. Definitely check it out.

yah I might think about a zune. I like the idea of a proper screen instead of that crappy 4:3 aspect ratio on the classics. And the phone/touch's hds are way too small to be used as a video player while having a decent sized library on it.

You really dont want to be jogging with a HDD strapped on your arm. I dont know why people think that strapping a harddrive on their arm and bouncing it around is a good idea.

so I bought the nano, yea, IT DOESN'T FUCKING WORK

this just adds to my life tilt, I'm probably going to kill the next person I come in contact with. Apple support guy was nice but didn't know what to do, he suggested I go to an Apple store tomorrow. I said thanks, make sure you transfer me to customer relations, I want to chat with them. He did, and of course they were FUCKING CLOSED. So I didn't even get to air my grievances. Now I gotta drive 15miles out of my way tomorrow.

    FFS, whatever

In what way did it not work? When I first hooked up my Nano my PC wasn't recognizing it either. I did the whole reset/restart the Nano/PC thing and it worked after that. And once the current patch was loaded up, it was all gravy thereafter.

If working out was your only use for the player I would have definitely opted for the shuffle. Sometimes I feel like my ear buds weigh more than the shuffle.

my nano won't even turn on though b/c it's never been charged

do you have AIM? hit me up, Sportfan73, maybe you can help me.
  22. #22
is the switch on top in locked mode?

it should charge by plugging into your usb.

have you tried it on another computer?

have you tried holding down the menu+center button?

if you cant figure it out just go to the apple store, theyll solve it for you.

stop being such a little bitch.

meh, you'd be upset too if the damn thing was fresh out of the box and didn't work

yea, I've tried just about everything
  24. #24
Try making sure your USB port is 2.0 and has enough power to charge the Ipod.
or try making sure you have the most up to date version of Itunes loaded on the computer.
Finally if those don't work, you can borrow a friends charging cable since Apple is too cheap to provide one in the package these days. Then charge it up.

Got it to work w/o apple's help.

Googled the problem enough and figured everything out.

    Hopefully no more worries!!

i have a 30g video and couldnt be more happy. you'll probly run out of space if you only get an 8 gig and have even a decent amount of music.

yea, working fine now, bought a sleeve/jacket for it to run with too.

Probably need to go pick up better headphones for running, but I've been dl'ing albums all day.

On the other hand there isn't really a "need" to put every last bit of music you have on the iPod either. A couple decent playlists on an 8gb nano will get you through most anything. Anyone that says they can listen to a Shuffle filled to the gills in one workout is lying or overdoing their workouts.

Agreed. You do not need a full size Ipod video unless you are planning to watch a lot of videos. I have a 4GB Nano and it is fine for well over 700 songs. I still have plenty of room. If you are working out, want portability, or primarily need the music function, I highly suggest the Nano.

Not to pick bones, but how is the Nano more portable than a shuffle? Especially since the Shuffle is a "music only" player at a quarter the size? Just wondering?

I think String was comparing portability of the Nano v. Reg Vid-Ipod... without considering the shuffle. From a pure portability standpoint I'd say the shuffle wins hand down. Doesn't the shuffle allow for only 2 play modes (in-order and random shuffle) without any independent playlists?

    Speaking of shuffle... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5wha...eature=related

Yeah, what Kingnat said. I wouldn't buy a shuffle since you lose a ton of the interface. The Nano is small enough that it definitely is not a bother when working out.

  34. #34
Can the shuffle play "Far Behind" by Candlebox on repeat for ten hours straight? If so, I think we have a winner.

ran with my nano last night in a Belkin strap I bought for $20 at Best Buy. Thing is pretty cool, it handles the headphone wires nicely and has a slot for a house key.

    What were you running from?

Seriously though the house key idea is kinda the money.

I love my Sony's that are just like this. I hate the stock Apple ones b/c they fall out or flop around when I run.
Best of all you can use PStars FPPs for a onecall.com GC. Yay!

yah I need to get some of those ear buds that fit into your ear. For some people the ipod ones work great, but for me they just fall out.
