48 hour fast

    Default 48 hour fast

It's 11:35 PM here in Vegas and I'm killing the last of a 6pack and some pizza. At midnight I will be going on a 48 hour fast. This aint some Cesar Chavez shit, just a good old detox period. My lifestyle has basically sucked for the last 2-3 months. Drinking heavily 5-6 nights a week has left me in the state of a fucking slug. I'm hoping this 2 day period can help me out. I think 48 hours is about the bare minimum for an effective fast. It will probably span a bit more time.

This will be what constitutes my diet for the next 48 hours:
    a. vegetable juice
    b. water

I'm researching fasting right now, if anyone has any advice, bring it on. This also serves as a disclaimer if my posts seem more stupid than usual. I'll update periodically.

    Peace

14 hours deep and I have yet eat or drink anything. I went to the store and bought some distilled water+V8. Not sure when i'll tap into this stuff. Luckily, I have had a lot to do today or I think I would be going crazy already.

A ginger-based drink can help with this. Note that it has to be made with real ginger and not just something like an artificially flavored ginger ale. Every couple years, I fast for a few days, and I always include ginger tea in the liquids I drink.

Ginger is a stimulant that acts on digestive glands, causing them to produce more gastric regulatory molecules. This increased emphasis on regulation causes the digestive system to be more responsive to its current state. During a fast, this will cause it to slow down the action of the intestinal muscles and thus slow down the overall rate of the digestive process, and in turn decrease stomach growling (which is just the sound of the stomach and intestinal muscles moving against packets of air, which are in higher concentrations in the digestive system when you haven't eaten in a while). Ginger also has antiemetic (nausea-reducing) properties, which can be useful during a fast.

But do I want to slow down the digestive process? I thought I am trying to get rid of everything here not slow the process down.

Thanks for the ginger idea, I'll probably look into it tomorrow. I think Im gonna extend this to 72 hours...

Honestly, I never thought of it that way, and that's a good point. Ginger has definitely made my fasts more pleasant, but it's possible it has also made them less effective. I think this warrants more research, since I'm not really talking from some place of great knowledge, but just from my personal experiences with fasting.

Played 600 hands on an empty stomach. Made a bad play cuz I don't think Im thinking right. Ran 14ptbb/100 though so it can't be too bad.

Decided to play 1k more. Dropped 3 buyins. 2 of which were QQ<AJo all-in PF for stacks. Ridiculous. Those 70/30 go my way I end up a buyin. Whatever.

Well, it's been 24 hours. My stomach is fine but my head really hurts. Im afraid to take any medication on an empty stomach tho.

Kinda weird this was mentioned since we're in the GI module and I'm up studying for an exam. I did a quick search on PubMed and most of the studies I looked at suggest that ginger is a prokinetic, meaning it stimulates peristalsis (the smooth muscle contractions that move material through the GI tract).

But meh... I'm not a fan of starving yourself for the sake of detoxification. There are healthier and more effective ways of doing it.

As I mentioned, I wasn't speaking from a place of good knowledge, like you clearly are, and I must have been mixing up something I read somewhere with something else. I stand corrected.

slowing digestion and slowing the detoxification are two different things. slowing digestion processes are just involving stomach gasses, the release of hormones that signal the hunger feeling and salivation.

As for distilled water, it's considered dead water. You use it in a fast becasue it's void of minerals and active cells. You want to control exactly what you put in your body.

As for better ways to detoxify, hel yea there are ton's. If you are serious about detoxification, I would go to a homeopath, or naturapath doctor or nurse, and systematically detoxify your liver, kidneys and digestive track properly. Including things like having colonics and a gallbladder cleanse.

QFT. I have a good friend who's a naturopath and the fasts she does/recommends are pretty involved. They seem to be mostly elimination diets where you keep getting rid of certain foods to detox different parts of you until eventually you're just drinking tea for a few days.

    37 hours down

    Total consumption: 36oz Distilled water

Slept for about 10 hours and I actually feel perfectly normal this morning. The headaches may have come from 5tabling last night.

I"ve gone 48 hours before but it was more out of curiosity . Only had juice, water, and hot chocolate. I was getting a little shaky by the end but really I could've gone another day methinks.
